There are parking lots on both sides of the building, as well as some spots in front. The Mims Gallery has some great exhibits that I haven't seen anywhere else. This visit, I got to see the Charles Schulz exhibit. Admission was $5, and you got to learn about the artist and the Peanuts characters. A Bob Ross exhibit was also here with his artwork. The lobby has a player piano that is a delight to listen to. Performances are held at the center throughout the year.

Wilson Arts produces and oversees the Boykin Series and ACT! for Youth program. Additional performances are presented by local community arts organizations, such as Playhouse of Wilson, Vision Community Theatre Group, S2P2, BPAC, Hunter’s Dance, Wilson Active Artists Association, and other entities who rent the space and oversee their own programming. The Wilson Active Artists Association also uses the Hammond Gallery inside the Boykin Center for art exhibitions and events through an agreement with Wilson Arts.

But it has been back open for a few months now and is currently having the Christmas Jubilee shows that combine music and comedy. I've only been to the Christmas shows but I was informed that there are four different shows each year. A Country show; an Easter Show and a Summer show. Besides the shows The Rudy puts on they do have performers come and have there shows at the venue from Elvis music to Bluegrass to Beach music. The theatre has about 500 seats. I've sat in the middle of the floor level before; the front row and this time I decided to try out the balcony. They do the sound and lights up in the balcony so you can see that too. The balcony does requires walking up stairs. I found the seats in all the sections to have good views. Parking is street parking but there was plenty available on the surrounding streets. The lobby has a concessions area and the prices are reasonable. The staff is really friendly and helpful too.

Service was stellar and it was an easy in/easy out dining experience. As for ambiance, it's bipolar. An unclear mixed bag of what the business actually is - Smack dab at the entrance immediately upon entering is a 3-in-1 hostess station-ticket exchange counter for kids-cash register that morphs at a 90° angle inward into a wall of liquor with TV's above a bar. Front and center is a handful of tables, beyond is the semi-open kitchen and on the left is a widened entry into a 1980's-1990's arcade games room. Don't expect Dave & Buster's caliber of games or intentional segregation of adults only vs family acceptable zones. Good potential for preteens+ to ride their bikes to and grab some grub with their friends if the booze wasn't so dominant. There may have been a bicycle rack outside, I cannot recall. I can see this as a spot for families to go for a kid-friendly dining spot and for those who don't mind eating amid kids being kids in a kid-friendly place as Downtown Wilson continues its quest to clean itself up. Worth a repeat visit later in the future as it should be interesting to see how this business evolves, similar to the rest of the immediate area, once it finds its stride and nails down the demographic that is its bread and butter.
