Very little guest parking available and no over night guest passes when street parking isn't available. Floors 1 and 3 have grey walls and black doors, while floors 2 and 4 are light blue with dark blue doors. You can clearly see missed paint marks, and obvious paint touch ups. There are exterior doors that are extremely difficult to push open, with no handicapped automatic open buttons. We went down to the common area to play a game of pool and 4 balls were missing. The standard was fine until they created a parking problem. Now there are zero guest spots for anybody to use and they charge for their residents to park after already charging them almost $3k a month for a two bedroom that isn't built well and has a horrible management team. I would be careful before signing a lease with them. I learned my lesson and will be moving once my lease is up. read more

Pretty terrible experience. Pretty sure my first review was taken down. Not surprised. Work on make the complex nicer instead of hiding reviews. The place is really dirty. First floor smells horrible. The amenities are always in disrepair. The grills never work right and are falling apart. The furniture around the pool is falling apart. The parking garage door is ALWAYS broken. We hated living here and couldn't wait to leave. Our unit had many problems and the response from Northland was terrible. We had to stay in a hotel for two nights due to contractors needing to fix water issues in our place. Our fridge leaked and water was coming in through the apartment below. Then our washer drain line leaked and flooded the apartment below. All over the place seams are coming apart and don't get fixed in a timely manner. The carpets are gross. The trash is always overflowing and is the entrance to the parking garage. In the summer is smells great. The trash service is terrible and drops the ball al the time. The recycling is always overflowing. Of course people don't pick up after their dogs and there dog crap all over the place. Maintenance here is non existent. They can't fix anything right. Our apartment had so many problems is wasn't even funny. We were told our garbage disposal was super loud because the blades were too sharp. These guys can barely change a light bulb. Oh, you want a new water filter for your fridge, that's on you. Air filter, they replace that. They don't maintain anything at any regular frequency. We were over charged over $800 on our lasts months rent and was a giant hassle to get it returned. Don't be fooled by the nice social media they post. That is the only thing they maintain. Im living in the standart at james islands over 3 months and i think that this is the best place for apartments in the usa You have high quality club that includes pool table (i play there every day ) Swim-pool amazing !! Coffee machine with all type of coffee and every morning you have some fresh cookies Events every time of sport , food or entertainment I definitely will continue the lease in this place!! read more

After looking for a place to live for a few months; we found The Standard and we definitely recommend scheduling a tour! You will fall I love with the staff first, the grounds, and the apartments. The entire staff is super friendly, helpful and easily accessible. On June 11, 2021, I had an encounter with the maintenance supervisor. I was pulling out of the parking space, and as I pulled up to see if anyone was coming. As I did, two maintenance men drove by; they were driving very close to the parked cars instead of being in the road where they should have been. Mike accused me of trying to run him over. He mumbled something to me and then pulled the golf cart over. I figured he wanted to talk to me. As I pulled my car over to ask him what he wanted, he walked over to my car and said, "you almost hit me" I said no; I was pulling up to see if any cars were coming before I did pull out. Then this man leaned over in my car and started sniffing like a dog. I asked him, what are you doing? He said, "I smell marijuana in your car." I was baffled at his response. I said I do not do drugs. He said we been smelling marijuana in the apartments. Mike placed me in a stereotyped situation. I told Mike marijuana is beneath me; any form of drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes are all beneath me. I am offended by your accusations. And I feel very disrespected by what you have said to me. Then I asked him about the tire track that was in the mud near my apartment. He blamed it on a mover the night before. Then I asked him was Tina in the office. He said she would be in at noon. I drove off. My daughter was on the phone the whole time she heard the entire conversation. She asked me to let her talk to Mike, and I put her on speaker. He agreed to speak to her. She expresses to him how disrespectful he was to her mom, and she informed him that he was clearly in the wrong profession to have spoken to a tenant the way he did. She told him that she would be writing a review. He was so rude while my daughter was trying to speak to him--a very cocky attitude. I have never felt safe, but now, I really do not feel safe living here. I have had to schedule an appointment with my counselor due to this ordeal. It caused a trigger in my emotional state and promoted mental stress. read more

I feel very safe and secure living here. The staff is amazing, and the maintenance crew is on point. I never knew how wonderful it is to live in an apartment complex until now! My three bedroom apt is beautiful and feels like I am on vacation every single day. I have a cat and my friends here have dogs and the facility is super pet-friendly. There is a sense of community including young families, couples, singles, and older adults. We are convenient to every place in Charleston. It is pricey to live here, but I am more than willing to work harder to afford feeling safe and happy! I love it here, and my family is probably tired of me announcing it every day. I walk to work, to the grocery store, the pharmacy, and to the Terrace shopping center with ease. My friend owns a local chiropractic center within a two-minute walk. Very bad experience since the first time I moved in!! The apartment smelled like sewage from the shower and the dishwasher , I complained about it many times , BBQ area by the pool full of Roaches , I had to give up bbq night when my family came to visit me !!! And the worst thing Is there's a lot of mice which I believe bring the snakes Over ! I have video of a snake in my first floor apartment while the doors where completely closed!! The standard is probably the best place to live in charleston. The management staff (Laura!) Is so attentive and amazing. The other review can't be more far from the truth! The walls are super thick! I have never heard my neighbors! And they have an infant! And the landscaping is impeccable. The pool is amazing. This place is top notch and priced well for being so close to downtown. I see a review about termites here so I'm going to add my 2 cents! This is what happened to my son. He moved here in April. Within 1 week he was covered in bites because I took pictures. He went to the Dermatologist several times ($800). They could not figure out what it was. Fast forward to this week. He has BED BUGS! He did not have them before he moved, furniture was professionally moved and moving company says they had no problem with truck. That leaves the only option being that they were in the apartment when he moved in! They are only in his bedroom, not the guest bedroom. Management says he has to pay $600 to have apartment treated, and so much has to be done before...ALL clothes washed and packed up in bags, mattresses removed, sofa turned upside down. When questioned, they say they are "checking" to see if they could have come through the wall! The fact that they even said that tells me that there has been a problem in another unit! Now I'm wondering what in the world is going on at this place. He has suffered for 5 months and they are totally unconcerned! read more
