I booked a three-night stay - Dec 26, 27, 28 2016 - in a 493 King Street suite, Charleston, SC…read morethrough VRBO. The owner was listed as Kevin High, however I later learned that this is a front for Walk Away Stays, LLC. I was switched out of the unit that I booked and paid for, forced to disrupt our stay with a move, and given two very unacceptable replacement units. The following is the full story. A couple of hours prior to our arrival I was contacted by Kelsey at Walk Away Stays and informed that the unit we had booked had a burst water pipe, water damage, and although the cleaning service was working to get it cleaned up, it would not be available for our stay. (The cleaning service told me that the unit had actually been double booked. Kelsey at Walk Away Stays stood my her story and said the cleaning service was "confused", it was actually a different unit that had been double booked. Seriously?!?) Walk Away Stays, LLC found two different units for us - one night (12/26/16) at 154A Spring Street and two nights (12/27 and 12/28) at 248A Ashley Ave. To make up for the disappointment, trouble, and inconvenience Kelsey promised the following: 1) Both of the units were at least comparable to the 493 King Street unit that we booked and paid for. 2) Although we would have to be out of the 154A Spring Street unit at the normal checkout time of 11:00am, the 248A Ashley Ave unit would be cleaned and ready before the normal 3:00 check-in. Walk Away Stays would call me as soon as the Ashley Ave unit was ready. 3) Walk Away Stays would give us a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant. None of these promises were kept. Upon arrival at 154A Spring Street, I was devastated. It was in no way comparable to 493 King Street and the convenience of being steps away from great restaurants. It was next door to a hostel in a very sketchy neighborhood, and about one mile further away from the areas we had planned to walk to. I called and left a message that this was unacceptable and to please call me back. My call was never returned. I then called the after-hours number and left another request for a return call. That call was not returned either. They did text me the access code to the wifi - which, btw, did not work. They didn't return my request for help with that, either. On 12/27, the day of our move to 248A Ashley Ave, we did not receive a call and were not allowed into the unit early. I called Walk Away Stays and spoke to Allie. She claimed to know nothing about any promises or the situation with the 493 King Street unit and said she would look into it. She never called me back. Before leaving Charleston, I called and spoke to Kelsey again. I told her that she had not followed through on any of her promises to make things right for us. The substitute units were not acceptable. We weren't allowed "early checkin" to the second unit. I never received the gift certificate. She said they had been too busy. I told her that I would be posting negative reviews and she said "OK. Fine." I'll probably never know if a pipe really broke, or if Kelsey lied to cover up a double booking (intentional or not?) However, based on the complete failure to make things right for us and follow through on the promises made, I believe the cleaning service and I think that Kelsey and Allie at Walk Away Stays, LLC flat out lied to me. A legitimate company would return calls and make sure that customers got what they paid for, or in the case of unavoidable situations were fairly compensated for their loss. Don't just walk away from Walk Away Stays, RUN-RUN-RUN AWAY!

With Hurricane Florence headed for Charleston, we were hit with another unforeseen dilemma…read moreregarding our relocation to Charleston from out of state. All businesses closed, all communication had shut down, and all hopes of finding a decent rental became one big question mark. We had to play the waiting game from afar. As soon as businesses reopened, we called Walk Away Stays as a temporary landing zone until we could find a more permanent solution. We were able to get in touch with Jamie. We explained our situation and within 24 hours we had secured the 248A property for a duration of two weeks. Jamie was very helpful, and we were fortunate something was still available considering our timeline to get to town. Walk Away Stays even lets you make payment (required in full with a pet fee, cleaning fee, and a refundable deposit) via credit card (with no processing fee), so that's a huge plus! We checked ourselves into 248A using the keyless door entry with a code they give you prior to arrival. 248A is a first floor unit (of a duplex) with 2 BR / 2 BA. Both bedrooms have California king beds and are quite comfy! There's a fully equipped kitchen and a washer and dryer. You are allocated one parking spot in the back of the house. Last but not least, they are dog friendly. Check-in is 3:00 pm, and check-out is 11:00 am. Considering our circumstances, we were able to have some semblance of normalcy due to the amenities that came with the rental (i.e. kitchen), making it feel almost as if we were home. 248A is such a great location! With King Street only 10-15 minutes away, we pretty much walked everywhere downtown and barely used our car. It is also centrally located with regards to Highway 17 to West Ashley one way and Mount Pleasant the other way. We couldn't have asked for a better location. My only complaints were they only had one roll of toilet paper for each bathroom and one paper towel for the kitchen. We ended up having to purchase additional toilet paper and paper towels to get us through our two-week stay. We also couldn't lower the thermostat lower than what had already been set, and there were some days it was extremely hot and almost unbearable. Keep in mind we stayed in the property in September. Keep those fans running, so the the place can stay somewhat cooler. It shouldn't be an issue in the fall or winter. In addition, my husband and I are extremely allergic to cats dander and had a tough time during our stay. There may have been cats here previously (as they are pet friendly). Overall, we had a pretty pleasant experience with Walk Away Stays and we'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an extended stay that feels more like a home (because it is) than a hotel.

He helped us find our dream home in one of the most challenging and competitive markets we have ever seen. He was recommended by a friend who recently bought a home working with William as well. From the moment we contacted him, he was very attentive and responsive to our needs and preferences. He always had a list of potential properties for us to check out, and he arranged the showings quickly and efficiently. He also did a lot of research on each property and gave us valuable insights and advice on each house. His expertise and attention to detail while going through the houses were also very helpful in making decisions. He was very knowledgeable about the area, the market trends, and the legal aspects of buying a home. During our entire home buying process, William was friendly and honest with us. He always supported us and helped us make the best decision. He still helps us with our questions after we bought our home with the same care and kindness he showed us while we were looking for a house. We are so grateful to William for helping us find our perfect home. He is not only a great realtor, but also a great person. We highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a real estate agent in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. We moved out early. Gave written notice in Dec and moved at the end of February paying $3050/mo via auto-pay. We received several emails telling us to cancel our automatic payments during our move out. Being rent responsible, there are two ways management companies collect rent. 1. They send you a bill once the home has been rented 2. They have you pay monthly until move out How are we told to cancel our auto payment but ALSO pay monthly? When asked to waive our $550 late fee (they charge 15% + another $100) we were told it was against fair housing. First off, that is bullshit. I am very sure that New Heights aka Carolina One has waived more than one late fee in their existence. Why would they not waive our? 1) ITS FREE MONEY! LATE FEES ARE CLASSIFIED UNDER ADMIN FEES MEANING THET POCKET THIS FEE. 2) Accounting and close out has been done and it would be more work for them to waive the fee then for us to pay it. Out of $2750 deposit we received 0 back. All eaten up by commission and late fees along with weird charges like MAINTENANCE COORDINATION! WTF DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?! I rarely write reviews, but after living here for a year, I feel obligated to share my experience…read morebecause future residents deserve to know what they're signing up for. The floor plans and photos online are misleading. For example, the "Juliette balcony" is not a balcony at all -- it's just a screened door with a gate outside. If you expect your apartment to look like the pictures, make sure to ask for clarification before signing. When I moved in, the unit had not been cleaned and was left exactly as the previous resident had it. A vendor admitted days later that they had never serviced the apartment. On top of that, the refrigerator burned out on my first day. When I leaned against it, I was shocked badly enough to leave me shaken -- yet maintenance dismissed it as "just a shock" instead of an electrocution. Regardless of terminology, this is unacceptable in an apartment at this price point. To make matters worse, the unit was infested with ants, including in my bed. I eventually transferred to another unit that actually had a balcony like the ones advertised online. Management, however, failed to tell me that my $200 security deposit would not transfer -- they simply applied it to the new lease, and I never saw it again. Another major concern was my privacy. Five days before my lease ended, vendors entered my apartment without my knowledge to "prepare" it for the next tenant. I only discovered this because they left a Starbucks cup on my counter. The thought of strangers being in my home, with access to all my belongings, while I was still living there is extremely unsettling and irresponsible. Community-wide issues are constant. Management regularly sends emails complaining about loud music and a pervasive weed smell throughout the property. The valet trash service is unreliable, leaving garbage piled up and making the complex reek. The pool is often closed because residents bring in children who aren't potty trained. The mail setup is another nightmare. Packages are delivered to an outdoor hallway with no cameras, making theft easy. I personally had an Amazon package rifled through, along with several others, before the office finally stepped in. By then, items were already scattered and tampered with. Overall, this complex is mismanaged, unprofessional, and unsafe. Between the misleading advertising, poor maintenance, privacy violations, community issues, and lack of security, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere before signing a lease here.

Then gave them the keys without even meeting them in person even to check them in at the property. Then they rigged the satellite to get a free signal and broke the washing machine. We were in the guest house when the tenants decided to move out within the first few days because their dogs did not like my sweet golden retriever. We did not see all the damages until they were gone. The Ravenal's made the determination that THEY could go to court if charges were pressed by the tenants so fully reimbursed them for the deposit! With the time to search for apartments in Charleston nearing, I have to warn young adults and…read morestudents to stay far away from this (as previously mentioned in another review) joke of a property management company. If you are lucky enough to have a staff member pick up the phone, they are rude and are constantly blaming the issue on the person "above" them- and that person always happens to be on a business trip and is impossible to reach. I knew it was going to be a long year when I went to go pick up my street parking pass at the DMV. After getting to the DMV, I found out that the property I was in, was just outside of the street parking zone. I had confirmed with the property manager over three times that this unit had street parking- a huge factor for me. When I brought it to his attention, asking what my other options were, he responded with, "I might have said you would be able to get a parking pass, but honestly you don't have that in writing. So what can you do?" The property that I lived in, was above a family owned shop- the shop owner owned the entire building. The owner obviously cared far more about the property than Daniel Ravenel, and had fixed every problem I had before getting a response, if any, from Daniel Ravenel. Right before my lease was up, my roommates and I cleaned the place spotless. We have all lived in Charleston for 4+ years and are well aware of the move out expectations. We are also well aware of sleazy property management companies such as this one and decided to take a video moments before we left the property for the last time- documenting the condition of the entire property before leaving. We were shocked when each of us were only given a small portion of our security deposits back. After calling and e-mailing for weeks, I finally heard back from Daniel Ravenel. They charged us to repaint the entirety of the apartment. When I asked for an invoice of the painting services, I noticed they charged us for paint colors that were not even in the house. I was ensured that was a mistake and they would refund me- that's when they stopped fully responding. We were also charged an absurd cleaning fee. They argued that we left the place a wreck- claiming we left furniture that didn't belong to the property owner, left bags of trash, appliances, etc. They sent me photos old photos of the property as "proof"- they didn't think to remove the two year old time stamp from the photos. I pointed out to them that they were using old photos and I have *recent* video footage of the property right before I walked out. I then received an e-mail from Daniel Ravenel's attorney and was told I would have to go to court if I wanted to get the rest of my deposit back. I had recently taken a position outside of the state and didn't want to go through the hassle or costs, just for a few hundred dollars. Daniel Ravenel is completely aware that as young adults, we won't take it as far (or don't have the means to) as going to court over a few hundred dollars. It truly is a shame that this team takes advantage of that and is continuing to rip off and deceit its tenants. Please do your research and find another property management team! Avoid at all costs!

So three days before our scheduled departure we were scrambling for another fun destination. My husband suggested we head to Kiawah Island. There were actually a decent number of places still available to rent. Ultimately we decided on one that was managed by Akers Ellis. The ocean front condo was listed on the company's website, as well as on Airbnb and Vrbo. Do your research people. The best rate was the one on the Akers Ellis website. And then I called them.
