First, find some of the nearby street metered parking or for a better deal park in a nearby flat rate lot ($10) When your windows are down, you can hear the music as you approach the end of Commercial Blvd. There's a stage setup between a couple of the restaurants and the fishing pier, with some chairs set up. But why sit down, when you can jam to decent covers of everything from "Sweet Caroline" to Ceelo's "F You"? The band (Groove Line, I believe) even gets into the act dancing with the crowd!

Ocean Boulevard, which is where I was staying,at a friends apartment, to capture the Friday evening "Jazz On the Square" concert series at Pelican Square in Lauderdale By The Sea. Since my first vists to the Lauderdale By The Sea area in October 2005 the Anglin Beach Pier Village at Lauderdale By The Sea which some refer to as "The Village" is one of my favorite beach villages. As well as Deerfield and Hollywood beaches as opposed to the 'Lauderdale Beach' aliong Atlantic Boulevard. Having frequented Muscle Beach in South Beach for the Winter Party Festival one two occasions if I had my choice of beaches I think it would be Hollywood, Deerfield and Lauderdale By The Sea. In that order. As I entered Pelican Square which is just yards from the Anglin Pier / Beach on Friday evening, 7 March 2008, I remembered that my friend who lives in the Hampton Beach Club had told me that the band that he saw last spring was a blues band and that he 'throughly enjoyed watching the women dancing together'. While the band played on. So, as I entered from Ocean Boulevard, along Commerical Boulevard, en route to Pelican Square at El Mar Drive, and as a soulful rendition of "Sittin On The Dock Of Day" reverberated through "The Village" I wondered if it was the same band. As I spent the next 45 minutes to an hour photographing and videotaping folks dancing the streets the Rick Bauer Band played Bruce Springsteen's "Everybody's Got a Hungry Heart", Johnny Cash's "Love Is a Burnin' Thing", Bob Seger and the Silver Bullets' "Old Town Rock and Roll" and Stephen Still's "Love The One You're With" before the band took a break. At which time I headed back to the apartment on South Ocean Boulevard to rejoin friends for dinner which our guests from NYC had prepared. When I showed images that I had taken of the band to my friend he said that it was a different band. Which I had suspected since the blues band that he spoke of consisted mostly of older afro-american men. May I suggest that if you are ever in the Lauderdale By The Sea area on a Friday evening that you check out Jazz On The Square at Pelican Square which, just yards from the Anglin Pier and Beach, takes place from 6 until 10 pm on the streets just outside of The Village Grille and Village Pump at El Mar Drive and Commercial Boulevard. The show was excellent and as always so were the hard rock staff. I've seen a few shows here and have always had a good experience. Lines move pretty fast for admission and drinks. Spent Friday evening enjoying a wonderful time in Las Olas. Had some great food and drink met some…read moreinteresting folks and overall had a great time. The Las Olas Festival was an experience, lots of great food from local restaurants and some independent providers. We tried something from almost everywhere and it was truly an experience. I am sharing just a few videos from the event but places like YOLO, The Wildly, La Marialita Rum and so much more. This was a great experience and I recommend when it comes by next year, you check it out as well.

Enjoyed the festival but it will be my last year. The 1/2 hour VIP early entrance is not long…read moreenough because by the time I went down one side of the event the gates opened and the line at the tents were prohibitive (So Long) to wait for a taste or drink.

Spanish night on Friday night. 5 dollar cover charge and the music was ok. Not any of the new…read morehits.... but a great place to not be too crowded. Enough seating. The drinks are regular priced and a nice crowd to come and hang out with friends and listen to a selection of Hispanic music.

I stopped in to this bowling alley a few months back to inquire about a league in efforts to meet…read moresome new people. It's located in the heart of Wilton Manors, and has a sports pub attached. I met the owner's son Austin, who laid out the specifics for me. I have some gay friends that bowl here, save he let me know gay bowling leagues are Tues/Thurs, hetero/mix M/W/F. So do whatever your flavor is lol There's a great little sports bar attached, Sports Den Pub that has great newer TV's and looks like it's a good time with regular type locals for popular sporting events. The Alley has 20! Lanes built in late 1950's and has all the classic makings of a regular old bowling alley. Everything seemed to be in excellent shape except for the bowling balls. Many were very beaten up, had massive pitting, and many could use replacement. However, I was able to find a couple of good balls and challenge my elderly father to the best of three games. -We had no problem setting up the games or with scoring. (My 86 year old Dad beat me BTW) lol :/ Games were $16 each with bowling shoes included. That is about the going rate that we would pay up in the tri-state, New England area these days. I had a great experience at Manor lanes. It is my closest bowling alley and it's got all the makings of a classic bowling alley, including bar type food and a decent Sports bar. Perfection for me, reminded me of the alleys I spent my childhood in. My dad who has bowled for over 70 years liked it as well, except for the condition of the balls. I'm looking forward to going back to Manor Lanes to bowl a few frames, and possibly get in on a league as a substitute :)

First impression: not the newest or flashiest bowling alley, but bigger than it looks from outside. Parking was slammed--had to park on the other side of the building where the other businesses were closed for the weekend. Check-in was... meh. The girl at the desk forgot to add two people to our lane, so I had to go back and ask her to add my name. Every interaction felt like I was bothering her--definitely not the warmest customer service vibe. There's a small sports bar attached so you can grab a drink while you play, which is a plus. We played two games, but our lane froze up twice and had to be fixed. They do sell socks, which saved me since I wasn't prepared to bowl. Didn't try the food, but the menu looked like standard bowling alley fare. Prices were reasonable, about what you'd expect. The place was busy, so if you're walking in on a weekend, be ready for a crowd. Overall: a casual, no-frills spot for a few games and a drink--just don't expect much in the way of upgrades or overly friendly service

Here, it doesn't really matter the views of the stage but taking it all in. The great music, the conversations, drinks, and food. Also entertaining seeing other various groups having a good time. Always seriously suggest arriving either early or no later than 11:30ish as seating in shade is limited, and you just want to max out the enjoyment factor. But have no fear, that when the festivities do end at 2pm, there are plenty of reasons to stay and enjoy a nice day in the park. Plenty of people do! Pro tip: bring a good Bluetooth speaker with good bass and play New Orleans music radio channel. A group nearby did while continuing to hang out at the park. Today has been very relaxing. Will hope for a stretch in May weather but if not then the memories will have to carry until this Fall.

We took the Bright Line train from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale to get ready for our cruise and spent…read morethe night before the cruise at the Hyatt Centric because it is located on Las Olas Boulevard, where all the interesting shops and restaurants are, in Fort Lauderdale. But it was raining pretty hard, and we decided we didn't want to go out walking to find a place for dinner. Searching around online, a speakeasy called Room 901 showed up, but we couldn't figure out where it was. It seemed really close, though. So I went online, and there was a reservation open just 30 minutes from the current time. I booked a table for two, not having any idea what I was getting into. When the confirmation email showed up, it didn't really contain any clues, either. All we knew was that the place was called Room 901 and was really close. Then we realized we were in Room 956. "Is it possible that it's at the other end of this hall?" I said. So we walked down to the end of the hall and knocked on the door of Room 901. It opened, and there it was. Apparently, if you're not staying on the ninth floor of the hotel, you're supposed to somehow know that you go to the front desk of the hotel and ask for a key that will let you access the room. But the way we stumbled on it made it even more mysterious. Of all the speakeasies we've been to, it has definitely the most secret. It is also the best. The mixology was phenomenal. The drink recipes are entirely enthusiastic to the period. And even though it's in a room at a hotel that appears to not have a room service or a fancy restaurant, the food was terrific. And the ambiance is amazing. The room is extremely dark, authentically decorated to the period, and features an imposing wall of every kind of liquor and liqueur you can imagine. The whole thing is run by a single bartender who acts as host and server, and made everyone in the room feel special and welcome. It's 12 seats only, and you definitely need reservations. I would go back to Fort Lauderdale just to enjoy this experience again.
