This is a nice enough pub and despite being set in a characterless, overbuilt village, it has an excellent beer garden with lovely country views. The welcome was friendly and the service was good but the food was a real let down.
Not one of the four of us enjoyed what we ate, my beef and ale pie was a bitter sludge with a triangle of singed pastry floating on top (btw, that's not a pie) and was served with poorly cooked and soggy chips made from totally the wrong type of potato. To add insult to injury it was served in a deep bowl which couldn't have made it more difficult to eat. What is that all about? Main courses on plates, desserts in bowls, not hard to follow!
While it serves a decent pint and the bar has a nice ambiance, this place has no idea at all about food, how to cook it or how to serve it. A miserable eating experience and when we mentioned to some local friends that night that we had eaten there, they grimaced and said: "oh dear!" Enough said. read more
