    Comfort Keepers

Just a little advice for anyone who is looking to hire caregivers for their aging loved ones. Do…read moreyour research before working with a company named COMFORT KEEPERS. (Lubbock and San Angelo), owned by Lisa Carson. Recently after visiting with Ms. Carson by phone regarding my mother, I was told of how the company cares for the well-being of their clients, however her company's actions seem to prove much differently. Company policy, contracts, and bottom line (profit) prevail over any actual decency or integrity in the care giving or well-being of the client. I am dealing with this now and discovering what COMFORT KEEPERS is really about. During the past 8 months, however, my 91-year-old mother has had a wonderful person look after and care for her. They have become very close during this time. Over the past few days, Comfort Keepers has performed anything but keeping my mother happy, and stress free. By the way, my mother has a weak heart and I'm not happy when I see her stressed and crying over a cold, impersonal company text telling her that her caregiver, for the past 8 months, will no longer be coming. So much for the caring and welfare of a client! On another matter regarding Comfort Keepers, in the spring of this year, after not performing an in depth background check on one of their employees, the company hired an employee who was a substitute caregiver for my mother. After only one day, the employee stole money, jewelry, and silverware from my mother. When learning of this I did my own online research and after about 15 minutes of research and a $10.00 fee, I found that person had a criminal record and jail time in Texas for the past number of years. We had to file a police report. This is what I call "Negligence"! Most recent, I sent a text instructing Comfort Keepers to cancel services for Oct. 10, 11, and 14, but to keep the weekend cargiver there until we could come up with options. I received a text saying, "OK. This morning nobody showed up and when my mother texted the company regarding my text and reply, the company management replied with, "no comment". This company should not be in the business of caring for the elderly!! It's sad that legalities, regulations, and the bottom line have taken precedence over decency and integrity with most businesses, and especially a business like Comfort Keepers who is supposed to help make their clients' twilight years feel secure, happy, and stress free. At this point we are weighing what options we have unless a meaningful solution can be reached.

Hallways are narrow and creepy, carpet is dated, lobby is extremely small. We took a quick peek in our room - the bedspread was torn down the middle, and it looked like a motel 6 from the 1990s. We turned around, got our money back, left and stayed at newer property on the better side of town. We simply did not feel safe. This property is a dump and not worthy of the Hilton name.

I arrived a little before check-in (around 1:30pm). Front desk attendant said it would be another 45 min before my king room was ready. Ok, fair enough. I sat in the lobby and just chilled...until 3pm, when I asked if the room was ready, and they said, "no probably another hour" unless you want a double queen room on the third floor in an odd-number instead of the first floor in an even-numbered room. Fine. I needed to get to work so I accepted. Bad move. As someone noted, there is a car garage behind the hotel. I think I slept a total of 12 hours over three days, as there was constant traffic and banging around over there. The bathroom had a number of long black hairs in the bathtub back by the shower curtain. I'm blonde with short hair . . . the sink didn't drain, the carpet is worn, but that wasn't from vacuuming, because I dropped something and it came up covered in . . . long black hair. Gross. The beds are bouncy and uncomfortable, the TV is outdated (no streaming), and breakfast is a joke. Clearly they're trying to save money: the hot food must be distributed by the breakfast attendant (who was very nice and friendly!) which I haven't seen since COVID. Minimal selection, stuff wasn't refilled, so I ate basically nothing from it other than a cup of juice. Not the quality I'd expect from a Hilton.
