Booze and Belly Dancers…read more About last night at Puff Social celebrating a birthday... This drink was so strong I forgot the name. It tasted like an alcoholic chocolate milk though. So good. Spent the whole day out and ended the night at a hookah bar celebrating a birthday and belly dancing with the Kazan sisters at Puff Social! We took 360 photos courtesy of Funboxxpb. Who knew El Paso had such a fun experience comparable to any I've had in Orange County CA? Now if I could only find a good Za'atar Manakish I'll be a happy woman!

Prior to coming I heard nothing but great things from locals who live here recommending it. Went last night and was wowed. Not only was the hookah smooth and flavorful it was prices well. The atmosphere was what I wanted. Great music with nice mix of genre's everything flowed well. The staff was exceptionally nice. The owner went out of his way to make sure I was good. This is the type of service everyone wants wherever they go. The owner talked to us as we smoked very down to earth and was a great host. Also saw him speak to other guest as they walked in. Very nice place. This will definitely be my home while I'm here. Can't get enough of the experience. Because that's what it is when coming here. An experience.

He asked several questions about my preferences and offered to make any adjustments, if need be. He made a great hookah. It was smooth and flavorful. Modern Hookah is a cute lounge that is small but intimate on the inside. It's a BYOB establishment. There is also a bar next to it. I chose to sit outside to enjoy the weather. The music was a vibe and mainly Hip Hop. The price of my hookah was reasonable in comparison to other places I have been. Overall it was a good experience and I would return.

What makes this place truly special is they use all glass hookahs with a massive diffuser. This gives you what I believe to be the smoothest, cleanest, and most flavorful hookah experience. On top of the amazing hookah, this place is BYOB. You can easily grab a craftbeer from Tinman next door and bring it over. I personally prefer to bring some liquor and a mixer and pay the fee for a bucket of ice. The only downside, in my opinion, is the fact that they don't have bathrooms. You have to use be public restrooms provided by the shopping center. Unfortunately these bathrooms, or atleast the men's bathroom, is disgustingly dirty and tattered with graffiti.

Chiquita's was recommended to us because it opened the earliest of the gay bars in El Paso, and it…read morewas described as a dive bar which my partner and I prefer. It is unpretentious, but we've experienced WAY more divey places than this one. Chiquita's is pretty nice as dive bars go. Our bartender, Jonathan, was friendly and attentive. The drinks were reasonably priced, but don't look for a 200 vodka selection, 50 craft beers or 15 taps. It's got the basic goods, and that was fine for us. It's not a big place and the decor is minimal with a couple of interesting features. Friendly service in the afternoon for a couple of hours (2-4 pm), a jukebox, a pool table, an interesting clientele (probably gay) and located in their El Paso Pride Square where you can walk to the 4-5 (?) other bars (we didn't). I deduct a star for their parking and the bathroom plumbing. We parked on the street with a meter ($2 for two hours). I presume there's other parking at the other bars nearby. The men's room was very clean, but the urinal didn't flush. We probably would have stayed much longer, but we had business to attend to. Next time we're in EP, we'll allow for more time.

So that may be the reason it's listed a a dive bar. If you want a bourbon and Coke or a vodka seven then by all means this is your place. If you want something that requires more than 2 ingredients...keep walking. The drinks were cheap. But really poorly made. My wife asked for a Colorado bulldog. She had been talking about getting one forever. Not only did the bartender have to Google the recipe but he had no coffee liquor and subbed Baileys...uh, ok. My Top shelf vodka martini was half Tito's and half well. I watched him poor it...and I watched him water it down with something from the Coke shooter. You know they aren't keeping Tito's vodka or vermouth in there. There's a jukebox and tiny dance floor but I see more folks just bellying up to the bar here than grooving out on the dance floor. It seemed more a cruise bar and an all day hang out for regulars.

In the beginning we did stick around for the drag shows but then started leaving because its almost the same performers on Fridays and Sundays which left us scratching our heads. We might give the drag shows a second chance once we start seeing performers we still have not seen perform there. But there is also something else we don't like, the guy who hosts the show like to sometimes make fun of some performers and some people in the audience, this is not funny, it's bullying and not professional for someone with a microphone to be shaming people for a cheap laugh.
