(I didn't go to my…read morefirst Barnes & Noble until I moved to El Paso)... in general, the two bookstores aren't THAT much different other than the coffee Shoppe. BAM has Joe Muggs instead of Starbucks.. and I'm not gonna lie, I think I like Joe better than the bucks. Any who. This particular store is in the Gadsden Mall as opposed to a stand alone or an outlet shoppe , so it stays pretty busy. It's also a bit small and cramped and because of all that it seems messy and chaotic. It's not a peaceful place to read in a comfy chair while you sip a cup of tea trying to decide which book(s) to buy... But it's good just for perusing the shelves. They have pretty much anything for anyone and any occassion (I do a lot of gift shopping here because books are my favourite gifts to give.) The children's section is pretty big and kid friendly. They have your standard new arrivals/book club/ popular fiction, entertainment section with games and such, lots of bios, a magazine wall, self help, educational, etc. They also keep up with the required reading lists from local schools and keep those in stock so you don't have to search hard. Like I said, anything for anyone. It's not the best, but it's still a bookstore. And that's enough to make me happy.

We were the only ones in there and then two others joined us. I would NEVER suggest this but what I thought was random became really uncomfortable as a worker seemed to follow us in each room. My son was in one room, my little one in the kids section with me and my husband looking around. She just kept popping in and not asking if we needed help but just watching us. I didn't have a purse or a bag with me. I am darker and my husband and kids are lighter. I was going to brush it off when my little one went to pay for us books and then sat in the front room in the couch. It was just us and here she came again but sat down her laptop across from us. Now I am a mix of annoyed and pissed off. Would you like for us to spend money there or make us so uncomfortable we leave? My oldest picked up on it and asked what the deal was. I finally said out loud to my husband "why does she keep following us in every room?" I didn't want to make a scene so we went across the street and enjoyed some yummy goodies. Saw a…read moreguy w glasses on his computer and clearly he saw me from his peripheral because Edie I got a chance to say excuse me he asks if he could help me find something . A bit abrupt. No hello or smile but I told him what I needed and he walked me over to the section. Surprised he didn't just point. Fortunately, the lady at check out turned my experience around. She was very friendly offering me the store card getting my email and such. She smiled before I arrived and thus made a difference . Customer service is what keeps people coming back, not just the selection or cost . I wish more employees would realize we have a choice in shopping.

Was wandering around downtown Gadsden and came across this gem. As you enter if you stay to the…read moreleft you'll find graphic novels and new release comics. That quickly transitions to back issues galore! They have probably 100 long boxes worth of comics to browse. Higher end stuff can be found in the display case (Graded books) and on the back wall (more graded books and harder to find issues). The back room is stocked with comic supplies and provides a place for people to do some gamine. Staff is friendly and willing to order stuff if they don't have it on hand. Pretty easy to get lost in here for a significant period of time if you're into this type of stuff. There are a few other places that sell comics in the area, but this place is definitely the go to location for a quality experience.
