Review Highlights - The Spice Shop

I love the bags of dried fruit (the mango strips are really good) and nuts displayed outside the store.

Clean and Lean Cafe is a supporter of clean eating - using unprocessed, unsweetened, quality ingredients that are organic and in season. Wholesome food that makes you feel good from the inside. My kind of food. I had just eaten breakfast at Daylesford and was wandering around when i came across Clean and Lean a few doors down. I just went in for a look but after being found out for being Australian by a super lovely Australian girl working there, we were chatting and she mentioned that they did great Acai bowls. I am a sucker for a good Acai bowl and hadn't had one for a while so despite not being hungry, I decided to get the Nourish Me bowl on Ruby's recommendation. For 8 pounds, I got the most delicious bowl topped with granola, almond butter, hemp seeds and fresh blueberries and raspberries - heaven! The acai was thick and didn't melt which is rare! I haven't had one with almond butter before and it gave the acai an extra creamy feel. Clean and Lean also had some great looking salads and sweet treats on the counter which I would have been tempted by, if I had been at all hungry. They also do Paleo toast, if that's your thing. I was also assured that their coffee was good too, but I can't vouch for that! Yes Clean and Lean is one of those super healthy places filled with fit looking people in their activewear but that doesn't mean that their food isn't delicious. Because it is.

It's funny isn't it, here's a shop I visit at least once a week, walk past numerous times a day,…read moreand I haven't even written a review in all those years. I think this makes it a typical example of all those lovely little places that make up our daily life. They are fairly unassuming but we'd be lost without them. Portobello Wholefoods is tucked away in a dark corner under the railway bridge, at weekends you barely notice it. During the week it provides the perfect addition to the fruit and veg stalls along Portobello Road. They stock everything you'd expect from a decent health food store at OK prices. One of the highlights for me includes the large selection of loose teas; I'd be lost without my fix of vanilla or mango tea in the morning! You can go hardcore with green and herbal as well, of course. All tastes and dietry requirements catered for.

Coming here makes you feel good about yourself. It's a mini vegetarian/organic haven selling…read moreeverything from a small selection of fruit and veg to more specialist meat-free/wheat-free/gluten-free/dairy-free/anythi ng-you-like-free food. Sometimes I find shops like this can be limited, but Wholefoods always seems to have exactly what I'm looking for. I mainly come for the amazing choice of vitamins and supplements as although I'm not a vegetarian I really don't see the point of taking something that's meant to be good for you, but actually has weird animal additives added or is encased in a gelatin shell (last time I checked boiled animal skin and bones really don't do anything for you). Also, I've met a lot of different staff and they are all eager to help with their wealth of knowledge on all things healthy. It's probably a tad more expensive to shop here, so you should stick to getting your more mundane items such as dried fruit from the supermarket, but for something a little bit special it's perfect. Why not try the gelatin free raspberry jelly or the fortified mineral water (you take your own bottles to fill and pay by the litre). Another great idea is that they don't automatically give you carrier bags at the till. There are a few used ones available if you really need one, but why not follow their lead and bring your own canvas bag to fill up.

So I have lived a short walk away for so many months and never tried this place until recently. I…read morehad heard great things about this place but for whatever reason never got around to trying it out. AMAZING! I had no idea what I wanted to try as everything looked great. I asked the lady helping me which sausages were the best and a worker was putting sausages in the case said "Everything!!" He was right. Everything we tried was soooo good! We tried a bunch of different sausages, the beef bourguignon pie, and the shepherds pie. The beef bourguignon was for sure the stand out item. For the next few days my husband kept talking about the pies here because he liked them so much. Great service and wonderfully delicious products! Must try!!

Someday I'm going to marry Oprah and I'll be a stay-at-home husband…read more I'll say to Oprah, "we should buy a place in Kensington/Notting Hill." And she'll look down the back of the sofa cushions and procure me a giant wad of cash to do so. And then I will spend my days grilling tasty meat snacks, procured from C Lidgate. Almost everything they sell is so meticulously prepped that all you have to do is bake/cook/grill. Or if that's too difficult, you can buy a pre-made pie. If Holly Golightly was a carnivore, she would have stalked the windows here and not Tiffany's. The fare here is presented like fine jewelry. That's why I gotta marry Oprah. It's simply uncouth for me to go in and order just a single lamb chop.

WOW - if you appreciate fine chocolate then this is the place for you…read more The winner of 10 gold awards (and rightly deserved). I was fortunate to be make the Qype tasting event there and i was in a chocolate heaven. Mark Demarquette talked us through the event and the enthusiasm and pride in his chocolate made it very enjoyable. I tried the lemongrass from his oriental selection made with an award winning vietnamese chocolate. - The others i tried were the earl grey, ugandan chocolate orange, morrocan mint leaf tea. In all we sampled over 10 different chocolates and each one was tasty and satisfying. If you have are looking for chocolate presents then this is the place to visit They really do want you to sample the chocolates so dont be shy. The owner is in the shop in the afternoons and is willing to give you advice but his staff are fully trained in the art of chocolate knowledge so will be able to assist you aswell

Every so often, you get lucky enough to meet someone who is not only passionate about what they do,…read morebut also happy to share this passion with you in an unselfish and unpatronising way. Marc Demarquette is just such a person. I was lucky enough to attend a qype event at this chocolate wonderland in Chealsea. As well as being allowed to sample some of the innovative (and incredibly delicious) flavours, we were also given an insight into the sourcing and development behind them, and even given some tips on making our own chocolate ganache - something I plan to impress my next dinner party guests with. Even without the background knowledge, Marc's passion shines out through his chocolates. From the jammy, fruity caramels of the british orchard collection to the inspired and unique fresh flavours in the orient collection, there really is something here for all tastes. Everyone I asked was hard-pressed to pick a favourite - I myself was torn between a highland malt infused creation and the extra-dark orange chocolate. The store is clean but inviting, and I hear rumours of marvellous displays in the lead up to Christmas. The staff are willing to explain what goes into the chocolates, and will even let you have a little sample too. Whether you're the type to savour the chocolates by having one a day, or someone who would lock themselves in and scoff the lot at once, get yourself down to this shop and enjoy!
