This biz is my cup of tea. The Spice & Tea Exchange is my favorite chain to visit while traveling. I recently stopped by their location in Bozeman, Montana and picked up enough tea to excite Paul Revere. I spent over 30 minutes exploring their well stocked inventory of tea and spices. The teas are sold in a loose leaf form, which happens to be my favorite. They have sleepy time teas, highly caffeinated options, and even some mushroom based. The other half of the store is filled with different spices and rubs for all your cooking needs. This is also a great spot to pick up accessories for your tea-loving friend. There's bookmarks, tea cups, and even those small animals that change colors when tea is poured on them. I wanted one of everything. I ended up snagging a cute light blue tea cup that has a built in filter, banana sugar, chocolate mushroom tea, and a strawberry white tea. Spice things up! This is a pretty impressive spice and tea store! They have a whole lot of different spices, spice blends, and of course, tea. It's not all just spice blends where some Montanan thinks, "Eh- this is what Cajun spice tastes like." Instead, it's mainly the raw spice ingredients. I love that they get nerdy with it- they had about 8 different types of paprika, with a little sign that lets you know where it's from, what it tastes like, what you're going to pay. You're free to open the jars and take a sniff. If you're cooking in Bozeman, and need just a pinch of some obscure spice, this is a good place to go so you don't have to buy a whole bottle and waste it. They have such large jars of spices, and such a huge variety, you have to wonder about the turnaround time on these spices, and how long some of these more obscure spices are sitting here. The fact that they're in glass jars is slightly worrisome, but I like seeing what's going on in all those jars. I was disappointed that they seemed to largely skim over the world of Indian spices, which are notoriously hard to figure out. Oh my where to begin, I went in for a herbal tea and ended up buying three bags of a chai. They have an amazing selection, their staff was very helpful and friendly. Once we got back to our Airbnb we prepared the Golden Milk we purchased, the instructions on the bag were easy and the flavor was incredible. read more

Such a fun & friendly specialty shop in downtown Bozeman! One of my favorite shops on Main! I loving bringing out of town guests here to take in the aromas of all the spices, teas, salts & peppers. The staff is super knowledgeable and has awesome suggestions for using the spices and free recipes cards to take home. read more

I've lived in Bozeman 49 years. I've seen the quality of service decline as more people move here and help has become hard to find. But, today (3/18 around 11:30am)was a new low. We walked into this shop to purchase some specific spices in large quantities to make some spice blends (roughly 5 lbs) that we use and give away as gifts frequently. We like to support local businesses. I also thought I'd try some of their own premixed blends. There was no one else in the store but us. The lady on the computer in the back never even acknowledged our presence or offered any help. I asked what their best selling blend was and she mumbled something and never even looked in my direction. When I asked what she said she told me again but made it clear it was an annoyance to respond. She never once got out of her chair and still never offered any type of assistance. i motioned to my wife to leave. i went home and placed my spice order on Amazon. I won't be back. If you only have one customer and you're not interested in helping them perhaps you should find another line of work?? read more

This place is amazing! I recently came to Bozeman on vacation and stumbled upon this place while walking around with my family. It was a true find for me, especially since I LOVE different spice rubs for my fish!Once I entered the store, it was nothing but great air and atmosphere! I got the Smokehouse Rub spice blend and it was incredible on my Fresh rainbow trout I caught that day. The selection of spice, teas, salts, sugar, etc is spectacular, such a huge variety of things. I know absolutely nothing about tea, but my doctors put me on an allergy reintroduction diet, and I have to drink a LOT of tea while doing it over the next month. I went in not knowing the first thing about making tea. The woman who helped me was the kindest, most patient person I've ever encountered in customer service. She gave me a crash course in tea making and set me up with everything I needed to get started. I will definitely be going back, and referring the store to my friends. read more

Helpful and friendly staff are there to help you choose from the huge selection of custom spice blends, salts, flavored sugars and loose leaf teas. I am updating my review for this business, as I initially had a poor experience, but the accommodating and apologetic nature of the business owners turned it around for me. After finding a hair in my spice blend I had been using for nearly a year, I emailed the business owners and reviewed them here on Yelp. The business owners were extremely apologetic, acknowledged that this was unacceptable, and did everything they could to make it up to me. They sent me a check to refund me for the spice blend, and also sent me a brand new bottle of the spice blend. I understand as business owners they cannot completely control the quality of every single blend that leaves their doors, however I appreciate the steps they took to make sure that the problem was dealt with appropriately.
