From the first drive up, I had a feeling this wasn't my typical spa massage from our cruises or…read morevacations. The business address dropped me into a strip mall with a simple sign that said "massage" and no specific naming. I opened the door to a rousing chiming of multiple bells on the door, looked left and saw a sewing machine ready for action. Hmm...is this the right place? I faint voice called from the back saying ..."you here for the 11 o'clock? Why you not ask for one hour? Only half hour not a lot of time." I apologized as I didn't know how booked she may be, and calling the morning of, often you take what you can get. She guided me into a room decorated on light pink motif and I happened to notice steel pipes hanging from the ceiling forming a "rack" over the massage table...yep this was no spa treatment... I quickly disrobed and got comfortable under my thin massage sheet and waited for Miss Julie to enter. I quickly reviewed my issues with my tight hips, glutes and back. I happened to look over to the table next to me at what could be described as a masochist kit at best. There were blades, knobs and clubs all ready to go. Oh lord.... I laid face down and I could sense Julie climbing up and grabbing the steel poles above the table and starting to use pressure of her toes and heels to work free tension across most all of my body. It felt amazing. So far so good. Often she would find extra tension points, which would cause her to go into her kit and grab a blade and begin scraping out the striations of tissue on tissue to get separation. It looked like the next appointment wasn't showing so I was able to bonus an extra 30 minutes. Julie continued to seek out tension areas and attacked them like a predator after prey. I completed my massage feeling 100 times better than when I walked in and pledged to Julie that I would be back next week. It's not much to look at walking up, and is NOT a relaxation spa experience, but if you need deep tissue massage and want someone to work you over good, Julie is your gal!

I paid $70 for someone to vigorously rub (not massage) lotion / oil on me. It's wasn't relaxing in the slightest. No discretion for my body, exposing (even when I pulled the towel back over) me. I personally am not a fan of hot stones, they usually ask, however this lady did not and it wasn't even a true hot stone portion. Instead she warmed her hands with the stone to rub me and then once the only rock she had was cool she vigorously rubbed the one stone all over my body. It wasn't a full hour 10 min short. She demanded a tip when I was leaving, which I usually do tip but today I wasn't going to as it was that bad of an experience. My advice for lookers go somewhere else where the actually massage and you get your monies worth. Somewhere where tension is released and they know what they're doing. My advice for this business. You need to actually massage and work the muscles. Go get certified! Slow down to provide a relaxing experience and truly get in and work those muscles. Use discretion so you're not fully exposing the person. And if you don't know what a hot stones massage is or how to use them don't - and ask IF the person even wants that.

The difference between the past and present studio is drastic, and I couldn't be happier with the changes. Beyond Massage is located in a small shopping strip center on Porter in Norman. When you enter the door, you are greeted by a welcoming waiting area, complete with nice furniture, calming music, and dimmed lights. It is obvious that this area has been well planned instead of being an after thought, like so many other massage studios. Even though the studio is small, the waiting area gives it a spa-like feel and prepares you for relaxation. The massages are done in individual rooms that are decorated like a typical massage studio. The music selection is nice, and I love the various oils and scents used for my massage. I appreciate the climate isn't too cold, which has happened to me more times than not when visiting other studios. I always feel comfortable and safe at Beyond Massage. The prices are what makes Beyond Massage such a great place. No need to search for massage deals though discount sites and risk having a bad experience. The regular price for a one hour massage is $45! That is $15 cheaper than the average one hour massage. My therapist of choice is Micah. I highly recommend her. Her many years of experience teaching and giving massages makes her the perfect therapist for me. I love her. I haven't had any of the other therapists work on me, but they are always friendly when greeting me at the front or on the phone. Call to make an appointment and see for yourself!
