My husband & I stay here every year in November on our way to Scottsdale AZ. Very clean, very very nice owners. 24 HR office. Right on the main drag in Liberal. I wouldn't recommend this place. Go to Days Inn for a little more, or if you have the money, Comfort Suites. They have high reviews on yelp, but not from me. I called them and the Indian lady switched the price on me, from 55 or 58 plus tax, to 53 plus tax, and with that in mind, Liberal, KS tax rate is above 9 percent (REMEMBER, KEEP THAT ABOVE 9 PERCENT IN MIND!) So I go there. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I simply ask to see the room before I commit,and this lady was having an attitude. I decided to take it anyways. Then she tells me the price, 53 plus tax,and instead of the above 9 percent, she charges me 15 or more percent tax!!! She was bragging about the place, and quite frankly, ain't nothing to brag about, as you'll see in my pictures. Her attitude should've been a red flag, and I probably just committed because we came from East County San Diego and traveling to Indiana. The walls are dirty, the room is old, and unless the management prior was better,this current management was/is horrible. Seriously, avoid this place and don't make the mistake I made. I'm giving this hotel three stars because the room was clean, the TV worked well, the heater worked well as soon as we figured it out, the water pressure was OK, they had a microwave and a refrigerator in the room. But the decor really needs to be stripped down. There's too much personality in the decor with dust collecting flowers above the bed. I know they're doing their best because they fold the towels really cute into little fans and the bedding is new but the decor needs to be stripped down. May I suggest viewing HGTV periodically.These are all easy fixes. Still trying to figure out why the ironing board doesn't have a cover on it. I'm debating whether I would stay here again. read more

I am conflicted. The bed was great. The linens are "crisp" and absorbent. The seat on the one table chair was not attached. The recliner didn't work properly. The TV was old, but great sound and picture. The wifi was one of the most powerful and fastest I've had in a hotel. Many of the fixtures on the walls and ceilings have been moved from their original location and the original holes still remain. Even with all this, I would stay again at the $44 rate except that the grout in and around the tub was inundated with mold. Granted, they had tried to clean it and cover it, but the caulking was white or clear and the mold shows through. Until that is cured, count this as my one and only stay. read more

A fine family-owned business. Cheerful, helpful people. We even received a blessing for our journey. Very clean. Bed was very comfortable- hard to get out of. We stayed here in October, 2021 based on price and favorable reviews. Maybe we got the bad room, but it wasn't positive. The room was clean, but extremely run down. Lots of paint, spackle and caulking used to make an old room look presentable. The worst part was that the bathroom area (also the fridge and microwave) was at the end of the room, separated by a low partition and no door. So if you prefer to use the toilet in privacy, you'd be out of luck here. Not sure how it got the 4 stars it did. read more

There's nothing much you can expect from an inn as cheap as Southwind Inn. The owners were really friendly. He was so excited to see a fellow asian (he's originally from India). He gave me a good, spacious room. For USD43 per night, the room was spacious with fridge and microwave. And it was clean too. However, there was an old, unpleasant smell in the room. It was probably just in my room (Room 17) as my colleague's room didn't have the smell. I stayed here for 3 nights (Mid July 2012), and on my last night there, the fire/CO alarm went off at 3am. I had to call the front desk and the owner simply took the alarm off the wall. I have to give credit to the fast internet connection though. read more

As a storm chaser who is on the road a lot, I am always looking for great value when booking hotels. The Southwind Inn definitely fits the bill...The rooms are a bit dated but are very clean; you can tell that the owners, who are extremely friendly and accommodating, take pride in their establishment. This is a no frills motel that has everything you need for a comfortable night's stay at a great price; I definitely will be back when in the area. read more

Traveling through and needed a room that was clean and dog friendly. Did not expect to receive such complimentary 5-star customer service. It's hard to get a combination of a clean room, great water pressure in the shower, a comfy-cozy mattress, and incredible customer service. The owners of Southwind Inn did it right! My wife and I were traveling through LIberal on the way to El Paso, TX, and needed a room for the night that would accommodate our two Chihuahuas and us. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable as well as on the main drag through town. The reservation was easy to make and the folks running the place were very nice. The only odd thing about the room was that the bathroom was only separated from the main area by a partial wall with no door! And, to make matters even stranger, there was a large mirror that allowed a line of sight directly into the toilet area that we wound up covering with a towel just to have a modicum of privacy. Very strange. The room was what we needed when we needed it and it was for a very fair price but perhaps the best thing about it was the fact that The Pancake House is right across the street and they serve a fabulous breakfast! read more

What a great value! This is one of the cleanest, well kept older motels I have seen in a while. Very friendly staff. Free ice machine. Great wifi. Comfortable bed. The location is right on the main road so you will hear some trucks but it did not bother me after hours of cross country driving nothing was going to wake me up and every motel on this street has the same situation anyway. We showed up at 6am wanting a room, we woke up the owners but they were very sweet, they gave us a late checkout (normally 11 but she let us stay until 2 since we got in so late) yes the room was outdated and a little weird but if you're just looking for some place to sleep on a road trip that all you need! This place was probably the cleanest, most friendliest hotel/motel/inn I have ever encountered. It's older, but clean...no nasty smells, no nasty stains. I highly recommend this hotel. I have stayed here many times and totally agree with the previous review. The rooms have always been clean and comfortable. The internet is reliable and I have had a comfortable king size bed with frig and microwave, iron and ironing board and a good sized TV for a very reasonable rate. I spend at least 80 nights a year in motels and this is one of the best. read more

"This is not true. That gentleman who wrote the first review is part of their family. I actually met him. Anyhow, I called this hotel asking on a price range for a week, and they told me that they were full. Then they tried to tell me that they did not allow pets of anykind, and that I needed to look somewhere else for a place to stay. When I got into Liberal, KS - their sign read VACANCY - all weekend long. There were also four people that stayed in their weekly rentals around behind - that had great big dogs in their rooms. There were 2 around front that had smaller canines in their rooms. They stood out in the courtyard screaming at this one poor lady that was staying there, and was very much handicapped. The problem is; they do not cater to women; at all. They need to put that on their sign board out front because someone - such as me - has contacted a lawyer; and the Chamber of Commerce in Liberal - regarding this. So - look out; all.
