My husband and I were staying at the resort nearby and kept passing by this location. I kept…read morecommenting on how we needed to get ourselves some serious coffee, and for the last two days of our stay that is exactly what we did! From the road, the coffee shop looks quaint and small, and I was blown away by the spacious interior. There were lots of signs offering the day's specials, plus a giant blackboard by the cashier listed out every menu item available. A sign noted shortened hours due to shortage of staff, but I didn't feel the shortage in any way. Service was prompt and we received our orders almost as soon as we ordered and paid. Since we already had breakfast on our first visit, I opted for a coffee and a marbled rye toast, only to be told the marbled rye toast was discontinued and they really needed to erase that item from the menu. Not a big deal; I got whole wheat toast instead. It was amusing to see the next day, the marbled rye option was still listed on the blackboard, without even having the "sold out" sticky sign taped over it. The hubby ordered one of the most delicious vanilla cold brews I have ever tried: full on vanilla flavour, but not overly sweet. To sound cheesy, this location does coffee very seriously while providing an excellent ambiance and service. Would have appreciated a little more current menu, but other than that, I wished we had a location closer to home!

Customer service was not very good. My wife ordered a latte with a shot of Peppermint. Could not…read moretaste it so asked one of the staff if they maybe forgot to add the peppermint. She said "sometimes the peppermint falls to the bottom, there's a spoon over there you can stir it". Not great customer service and even after stirring no peppermint. Maybe in future they could check with the barista and confirm

Hornby Island Bakery & Pizzeria - Mold

A friend said they'd heard about an amazing pizza place on Hornby, and they were right! The owner…read moremakes his own dough and sauce, and you can taste the difference. Thin and crispy crust and zesty sauce. No skimping on the toppings. You sit on the grassy slopes on picnic tables; plenty of distance.

Holy fucking hell, Hornby Island Bakery & Pizza is an absolute goddamn disaster…read more I made the colossal mistake of ordering from this overhyped dump while on the island and it was one of the worst food experiences of my life. If you're thinking about wasting your time and money here, don't. Just go starve instead. It would be less painful. First, the wait time is pure torture. We ordered what should have been a simple pizza and then stood around like idiots for what felt like an eternity. Forty-five minutes... an hour... still fucking waiting. No updates, no apology, nothing. Just us getting hungrier and angrier while the staff moved at the speed of a dying snail. By the time the damn thing finally showed up I was ready to start chewing the picnic table. Unbelievable. Then came the pizza itself -- and holy shit, it was moldy. I'm not exaggerating. There were actual fuzzy green spots on the crust and a couple of the toppings looked like they'd been sitting in a damp basement for a week. The cheese had that nasty off smell and the whole thing tasted like someone had left it out overnight and then reheated it with zero shame. I took one bite, gagged, and almost threw the entire box in the trash right there. Moldy pizza. In 2026. On a tourist island. How the fuck does that even happen? And the customer service? Non-existent. Straight-up hostile in its complete lack of effort. The person who finally handed us the moldy garbage acted like we were the inconvenience for daring to exist. No eye contact, no "sorry for the wait," no "let me make that right." Just a blank stare and a shrug. When I pointed out the mold they looked at me like I was the problem. Zero ownership, zero professionalism, zero fucks given. Absolute clown-show service. I paid real money for this circus and walked away hungry, pissed off, and slightly nauseous. Hornby Island Bakery & Pizza somehow manages to combine glacial wait times, actual moldy food, and the kind of customer service that makes you want to never speak to another human again. Total fucking joke. Avoid this place like the plague.
