Alma Dance Academy - BUILDING A LEGACY, ONE DANCER AT A TIME

Alma Dance Academy

(1 review)

After many experiences in deferent dance schools my daughter finally found the perfect one! My…read moredaughter absolutely loves to dance, but she is 6 years old so I don't expect much. She was going to different schools since she was three and honestly she didn't like any and hated many teachers. Mostly because it felt that teachers didn't really want to put any effort in teaching little kids because they knew there would be no showing off any successful dance or participating in competitions, children are too little. But in Alma dance academy I feel like teacher just loves to teach, she is absolutely fantastic at it and she just loves the process and loves kids. I see her with my daughter who is 6, see her with 2 year olds and 12 year olds - she is an incredible teacher to all of them - patient, motivating, energetic and just pure joy to be around. Thank you for teaching my daughter flamenco, she keeps saying how much she loves her teacher and the dancing. All thanks to Alma dance academy. Hope you prosper and be happy here in Cliffside Park and we love having you as a part of our community. Grateful mom of a dancing 6 year old girl.

We have Ms. Kerri and she is wonderful and knows how to lead kids. Class is organized, good quality and always filled with laughters. We paid $60/month. It's a whole year program. They follow school calendar so there will be spring break, summer break and major holidays. Highly recommend this studio for beginners.

Among…read moreall the ones we visited and tried, Nunnbetter appeared to be the best one for us for location and as a facility. They have dedicated huge parking lot, lots of studios rooms inside for different classes. Multiple rooms to store bags and shoes. There's waiting area and waiting room. Couple of restrooms, very clean and well maintained. My daughter started with toddler class and continued to her second year of intro to Ballet. Ms. Kerri is an amazing instructor, very friendly, patient and playful with the kids. Classes are for 45 minutes. Same classes are offered during week and on the weekend, so easy to do makeup classes by attending the alternative class. Tuition fees are very decent, way cheaper than some of the places we tried before. Registration and monthly tuition, all of it can be managed through website. They are also very helpful in person with any question or concern. I have been very pleased taking my daughter here for her classes over a year now. It's a wonderful facility that has a history of developing incredible Ballet performers through its classes.

Here is a review from Leslie Goldstein that I thought would share: I recommend everything about the…read morePalisades Preschool family! It's a truly enriching environment where you see your children grow exponentially, truly! Now I can say It's even better the second time around with your grandchildren as my grandson is graduating this year from Class 5! I also remember every single day of my daughter's years there and her darling cousin. They both had fabulous experiences with the original cast and crew. My sister and I went to help class 3 bake and gave the girls teacher a block of dough! They were wonderful about it and we all had a good laugh. The children come home and tell the parents everything so you know the staff is amazing! I love my grandson's teachers. They are amazing as are all grades. He teaches me about space and more! Oh, we all started with the toddler class and recommend it highly. Best place for your little ones to begin and you can peek in! 5 stars don't look further! I didnt even mention the enrichment programs with music and dance and more. I especially love the chicks that hatch each year. I remember it from my childhood. They are the best! From a loving Mom and Nana xoxo

My granddaughter is just finishing up her first year at Palisades Preschool in the Toddler 2s…read moreprogram. She started in September with three full days a week and loved it so much her parents increased her to five days. This was her very first time away from home, and the teachers were incredibly kind and reassuring. We were worried in the beginning about how she would adjust, but they sent sweet photos of her being comforted and held, and thanks to their warmth and patience, she adjusted beautifully. Before long, she was eagerly looking forward to school each day! She adores all the special classes, but music with Miss Momo on Fridays is definitely her favorite. One of the highlights of the year was the holiday show they performed for the families. Seeing those little ones dressed as elves, singing, and shaking their instruments putting their whole hearts into it was absolutely precious. Our granddaughter has truly blossomed at Palisades Preschool. She's become quite the social butterfly and talks all the time about her friends at school. The teachers often send photos and videos during the day, and it's so clear from those big smiles that the kids are having the time of their lives while learning and growing. On days that I pick her up from school, I'm amazed at how joyful and excited all the children are at Palisades Preschool. It's been such a wonderful year, and while we're a little sad to see it end, we're thrilled she'll be joining the summer camp and moving on to the 3s class this fall.

I really enjoy being a member at The Gym. The space is always clean,…read morethe equipment is modern, and the staff is friendly, but what truly makes my experience special is my trainer Monica. Before working with her, I had never strength-trained. She taught me the mind muscle connection. As a runner with a few imbalances, I really value how she builds in mobility, flexibility, and functional strength so I move and feel better overall. In five months, the progress has been amazing. Monica plans every session thoughtfully, challenging but never overwhelming, and always tailored to my needs. Her coaching style is the perfect blend of clear instruction, supportive energy, and just the right amount of push. What really sets her apart is her holistic approach. As a certified yoga teacher, she brings mindfulness and stress relief into each session, making every workout feel like a full reset. And as a chef with nutrition certification, her advice and meal plans are realistic, sustainable, and never restrictive. I couldn't ask for a better trainer. Monica is knowledgeable, caring, and genuinely dedicated. I highly recommend her.

You need to get the facts straight first before you jump the gun on how friendly Frank was to me because that's simply NOT the case... My ID is 100% valid. Im retired like I told him several times This is what I clearly told Frank a year ago and he said that it was" no issue at all" ..So I ended up coming back to the club a year later to finally join up. He asked me for ID which I showed him, then he started to say oh didn't you come in here a year ago etc, so I said yes I did. He then tells me "oh your ID says retired you can join at the full rate" and "I told you last time that im not giving you the discount we offer ...(that's not true at all ), What he said was that it was NO ISSUE".. He started to examine my ID, hold it up to the light literally about 5 different times ,,,Not sure what that was about...I said Frank, " WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MY ID- YOURE EXAMINING IT LIKE ITS A FAKE $100 BILL OR SOMETHING, I said is there an issue?????..and he says " OH NOTHING I WAS JUST LOOKING AT IT. He then continues to say he's not giving me the discount and he told me this last year. I said NO PROBLEM...I was leaving, asked him for my ID back, and he started taking pictures of my ID with his phone... Maybe you can clear that up for me Andrew..what was that about after I said no problem and was clearly leaving the club with my coat on. Why did he start taking pictures of My ID? I mean I could care less that you or him think my ID is not valid, I could care less about any discount, or joining your club..Thats not the point at all.. I just didn't appreciate the way I was treated..PERIOD. Its really as Simple as that..I hope this clears it up for you. My experience was not good.

This review is actually about the Company's debut of "The Cookout" City Center last night was full…read moreof dance enthusiasts and some very important members of the dance community; i.e., Sylvia Waters. It opened with The Cookout. Let's just say....It was a cookout that I would have left early....before the ribs were done and the potato salad came out. The dance came off tentative and not strongly executed. The movements seemed effortless and not very challenging. With songs like Bra and Movin by Brass Construction....I expected some powerhouse stand-out performances and felt disappointed. At first I thought it was just me but when the dance ended, my best friend said...."that looked more like a rehearsal". The costumes did not do it for me and I think this should have involved more dancers in vinettes telling different stories you would see at at cookout...."The drunk Uncle" The dancing Auntie that turns up......young folk crazy dances all interpreted through modern jazz and ballet. Even the sexy male lead dancers ...(and did I say SEXY) could not save this lackluster dance. This was clearly not DTH's lane. Like when Ailey did "Home" paying Homage to the Paradise Garage days paired with the aids crisis....I felt that all through my body...it connected and certainly resonated with everyone. The other three DTH pieces were brilliantly executed and beautiful to watch. This was truly their lane. All of the Principle dances were absolutely amazing!!!! Kouadio Davis' presences is captivating as well as Derek Brockington. Elias Re has the most beautiful long arms making his extensions memorable. Wanted to see more of this dancer. Carly Greene was FABULOUS!!!!!!!

When I was a dancer I had friends in the company and used to watch them in person all the time at New York City Center! They can't be compared to any other company especially no other African American company. They are in a league of their own! They outclass any other NY company with a diverse repertoire. That is not my opinion that is undisputed in the dance world! Virginia Johnson an original dancer and my favorite of DTH is now the artistic director! So with her as the director you can expect the same level of excellence!
