I wouldn't live here again... First of all, I was constantly sick from the mold. There was mold in our bathroom vent, and outside our room there was a ceiling leak that constantly was bubbling with water, probably molding, and leaking on the floor. The carpets in our rooms were gross and turned mine and all my roommates feet black from the day we moved in. Also the place wasn't too safe, the main door was always left open 24/7 and there's been sketchy people that come in and could easily access the rooms. The dining hall and Starbucks were pretty decent, there were diverse food options and the food was pretty good. As someone currently living here, they could improve on a lot of things. Security cameras, they don't work. If you have any concerns for parking lot safety, don't live here. If your car is left unlocked, it's not a "maybe" that it gets broken into, it will. But even if you lock your car, don't leave anything in it, I've seen multiple broken windows. This issue will not go away until they fix their security cameras. Maintenance. Initially I had a good experience, but not until I got MOLD on the surrounding portion of my A/C vent as well as on the vent. The maintenance worker shrugged my concern and proceeded to tell me "it's just rust". I will attach pictures of the work order as well as the vent. I have even went as far as getting a mold detection test and that came back positive. Every so often they send out surveys on how you're feeling and you can leave a message for management to get back to you. I've now left THREE messages over the past 1.5 months and have yet to receive a response. To me, they'll do anything to cheap out on you even at the cost of the customer. The last 5 reviews say everything. Mold. Lots of mold in the bathrooms and in the rooms on the A/C vent. The mold has gotten so bad that there are gnats/fruit flies all over our room now due to the moisture. The rooms have accumulated a foul smell, which I believe is due to the mold. There is little to poor air flow in the rooms. Recently, I have been finding ants randomly over the rooms. No security cameras so safety is kind of thrown out the window. It was a very easy move in process. I Did a quad with random roommates and they matched us perfectly. I've now created life long friendships that I adore! I do wish the room was a little nicer , but I get my own shower. the cafe and gym is nice as well. Overall not the best, but for a first year college Experience it wasn't too bad :) read more

This place is straight up ass. Moved in and the room was still dirty, walls cracking, mold all over the bathroom. No temp control in the rooms, either blast ac and freeze or blast heat and boil. Graffiti on my ceiling that they used a single layer of white paint to cover (obviously still visible). Microwave and fridge were beyond disgusting. Security? None existent. According to the lease you sign they have security cameras and parking lot patrol, they have neither. They are more than happy to tow your car at 2 am though. Parents reading this for your upcoming freshman DO NOT PUT YOUR CHILDREN HERE. You will find safer and cleaner and CHEAPER living elsewhere. I would not live here! Go with an apart it will be better in the long run. My room had mold in the bathroom and cockroaches. The shower drain was always clogged. The food is okay in the beginning but it is always the same thing and half the time I ended up going somewhere else to eat because I felt so sick after. In an apartment you will save money because you aren't wasting money at a dining hall that is awful and has horrible hours. Between having a job and school i could almost never make the hours which left me with the cafe which was sold out half the time or they just didn't have anything in stock. At the end too I had asked to extend my lease one month til I could move in to my new apartment and they were not cooperative at all and sent me in a circle trying to contact different people and then would ghost me. Don't recommend. The rent with a single room and 3 meal plan is about 2x what you would pay if you were to get a lease practically anywhere else. One upside is that it has a dining hall however the hours are not very good and the food gets repetitive. On top of that, if you have maintenance issues it will most likely not be fixed or will be fixed partially. The rooms are not clean on arrival, and have tons of issues. When I moved in my neighbor had to be moved 3+ times because of roaches or black mold and she ended up having to contact the school legal help clinic for advice. The roach issue she had, caused a few to appear in my room however even after maintenance treated the room they'd still show up. My neighbor on the other side as well showed me her headboard behind her bed and it was quite literally full of black mold. Not to say this is a bad place, plenty of rooms will have 0 issues and there are still good reviews however for all of those reasons I do not recommend the social. If you are looking for a freshman year dorm just live on campus or get an apartment. read more

I lived at the Social from the beginning of my freshman year, to the end of my sophomore year. Living at the social was tolerable in my first year; I made friends, and the amenities were appealing to me, since it was my first time living on my own. Even with the positives, the negatives were very obvious. All my friends constantly complained and said they would be moving out at the end of their leases. Every room I visited in every building of the social (East, West, and Central) had mold on the ceilings in the bathrooms. My friend who lived in the West building called maintenance to get rid of the mold, and they said they would only come remove it for free ONCE; mind you, mold comes back periodically. When my apartment was being inspected for move out, the maintenance man had the nerve to say we could be double charged for the mold on the ceiling... The lead maintenance man was rude and loud, and would bang on doors and yell first thing in the morning when the had to work on peoples rooms, he even yelled at my mom when she was visiting me one weekend. You could literally hear him from the opposite side of the hallway from inside your room. Management was TERRIBLE. the girls who work in the front office are all LAZY, and would rather sit around talking to each other than doing their jobs. Ive only encountered two or three actually helpful people in the front office, and they were gone within a few week of being hired. The frequency of workers being cycled out makes it so difficult to get business handled, since the person who you last spoke with has been replaced by someone new. They never enforce anything; I had to call courtesy patrol multiple times, and my complaints were reported to the front desk, but action was only taken when the literal police and fire department had to get involved. The people living in my building were extremely loud, and smoked weed and drank alcohol constantly. My downstairs neighbors would bang on the ceiling and yell throughout the day and night, and they were never reprimanded by management. The dining hall is not worth the 375 dollars that you have to pay. The food is sub-par, and the green box system is a scam. For a green box (a box that you can take to-go food in from the dining hall), you have to pay 12 dollars, and at the end of the year you are expected to return your green box to them, but you don't get your money back. The specials at the grill, and the options at the buffet were usually poorly made ethnic dishes that taste bland and nothing like the dishes they say they are. Like I mentioned earlier, I had an incident in the middle of the semester where my neighbors tried to break into my room and attack me and my roommate with tasers, and management tried their best to do the absolute bare minimum to resolve the situation. Even though my neighbors had broken the lock on my door and chipped the paint by slamming into and kicking my door, the girls in the front office didn't seem to care that my neighbors had destroyed property, and that the fire department had to be called to axe my door open. All in all, The Social is a terrible place to live and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone going to Chico or Butte college. read more

We walked out of there, super excited, but unfortunately, we were scammed to the max. My daughter stayed here for the academic school years of 23/24 and 24/25 her first year she was so excited to be on her own, she loved it, found friends easily and had a great time. Towards the end of her freshman year she was asked to renew her lease, so we did...big mistake. Her second year here was a nightmare, if your child is studious, and not too big on partying, the Social is not the place for them. unfortunately this year she had some rowdy girls as neighbors and on "wine Wednesday" as it's called, the little girls got drunk and started banging on doors, after my daughter asked them to stop, four girls with a taser decided to bang on her door, telling her and her roommate to "come outside" they banged on the door so hard it jammed and my daughter had to call the fire department to pry the door open. I got the phone call and at eleven at night drove from Sacramento to Chico, my husband and I got there at close to one am. I packed my daughter and her roommate up and brought them home with me. The next day when I dropped them back off I was clear that they need to get it together and get control of their residents. The young lady in the front office is annoying and timid and the young adults smoke weed in the study rooms, drink on the premises, and nothing is done. The rooms are a mess, the manager is a mess, the dining hall is a mess. Like I thought she would, she did nothing, so I let her know that I wouldn't be so nice the next time if one of those little girls messed with my kid. She finally did something. My daughter told me she realized why so many kids moved out and moved up the street away from The Social, those young ladies in the front office have absolutely no control of that situation, they're a homogeneous group with absolutely no diversity and no clue. Also, let's not talk about the fact that there are grown adult men living there. I was really not comfortable with there being non-students there as residents. Honestly do not allow your children to live here, especially if they are working hard to get their degree. My daughter decided to transfer to a University closer to home and leave Chico. unfortunately their reputation still stands as a party school and the social is part of the problem. read more

Horrible! My son's truck was stolen from the parking lot the first week of school (August 25 or 26). The Social claims it has nightly security which it does not. It has no security after hours. They post signs that the premises are under surveillance in the parking lot, however, there are no cameras outside as indicated. There have not been any cameras in the parking lot for the past seven years according to the resident manager. The resident manager was less than helpful and provided an email to the regional manager. There is not a contact number for the owners only an email. I emailed the regional manager twice without a response. It is shocking the off campus dorm does not have security for 18 and 19 year old students who have left home for the first time. Be aware of the safety of your child at this place. Communication is poor or lacking and help is non-existent. I look forward to talking to someone with Trinity Property Consultants. read more

After living here for the academic year, I would say my stay was pretty bad. When I first arrived at my first room at this apartment complex I realized it smelled like mold immediately and was just musty in general. I lived across from an elderly woman which was no problem but I was under the impression that this was a "student only apartment." The rooms are old and outdated with plumbing fixtures and appliances that are likely older than myself. I felt like I was in prison with the white painted cinder block walls. My bathroom was filled with mold on the ceilings and made me sick on and off for a couple months. I learned that the roommate match that they use or likely do not use is pathetic. I put down honestly everything about myself and I got placed with the biggest introvert/homebody guy I've ever met. I had to request a room change a few months into the semester due to the fact that he would talk to himself and sometimes scream at himself to which made me think he was schizophrenic. I got placed in a new room with the same old and outdated features and once again a shitty roommate. Only this time it wasn't my roommate who was the problem but rather his family (which would come visit every single Saturday from morning until night) the first time I met them they lectured my friend and I over using curse words around them and drinking alcohol; essentially they were the biggest bible thumpers I've ever met which speaks volumes considering I'm a Catholic. Overall this apartment experience has been my least favorite. The dining hall is overpriced with inconvenient hours and subpar food. If you don't like the specialty items (which are typically some niche ethnic food that is completely random) you are forced to eat burgers, pizza, salad, chicken nuggets etc. Lastly I'd like to mention that this apartment lets groups of elderly people use their study halls daily. This often causes the parking lot to be completely filled up and hard to find a parking space, on a few occasions I have found these senior citizens to be quite rude and they also fill up the dining hall making it even longer to get a burger which at times takes up to 30 minutes. If you are older than a first year I recommend you do not stay here; it will make you feel like a freshman again. Not to mention others will perceive you that way as well "you're a senior and you still live in the dorms?" Good riddance the social! read more

The social Chico deserves no stars I've lived here for 6 months and when I first moved here I was told that I was forced to get a meal plan which I was never given a meal card for or even briefed on how the meal plan even worked but I did pay 300 dollars a month for it.(granted I never asked but when I'm paying 300 for a meal plan I best be filled in on it) also I filled out a questionnaire for my roommate and they asked me about how much I smoked/drank/noise level, etc. and the same that I would prefer in a roommate however the social does not allow alcohol or smoking of any kind on the premises and I was even told I couldn't light a candle...... I'm a 18 grown adult and the Chico social treats their tentats like children. The parking pass is 60 dollars which you pretty much have to get because street parking is taken up by the 3 other housing complexes on the street. And not to mention how rediculously priced it is I pay 1040 a month for a bedroom and a shared bathroom and I can hear the Train every night, the ac barley works, when I first got the room it was thilthy, there's no kitchen to use, the fridge is tiny and the microwave sucks. Soooo pleeeaassseee chose anyother place you'll thank me. But it is really close to CSU and you shouldn't feel any kind of intimidation from the owner jon. Sweet lil guy really. I also would just like to update this and say that after I was told to leave because my girlfriend occasionally had her cat over I am currently expected to pay a 2500 dollar "early lease termination" in addition To being kicked out. It's not as good as they make it sound I have lived here for an academic term in the dorms and I wish someone told me all the flaws this place has. I genuinely don't know how they are still in business. 1. Not all of the rooms are the same. When I first moved in my roommate and I were given a very outdated, dingy, old and moldy room. It was nothing to what I saw in the tour. I complained about it and they were wanting $200 in order to transfer rooms. Why should I pay more for something that I was promised to live in? 2. They turn off AC and sometimes the hot water is off and they barely notify you about it and when they do, they don't tell us the reasons why. All of that is being covered in rent and I couldn't even keep my window open at night due to the train and people smoking outside. They will literally lie to your face that the ac is on but it's not and the manager doesn't turn it on until May even if it's close to 90 degrees in April. 3. They don't put out packages or mail all the time even when it's been delivered. If you need something asap then don't count on it to be in your parcel or mailbox on time. 4. Half the staff is too busy making tik toks that don't have much relevance to the business. Seriously go look at it. It's embarrassing. 5. They started doing a lot of random construction and maintenance by the central (main) building in April. They make the appearance of the place look really inviting to guests who take the tours. I promise you they put all of their time and money into the things they show you on the tour. They don't put that kind of money into making all the rooms look new and clean. 6. The gym is actually really great and I use it everyday since it's free. However their smith machine has been wobbling for months (safety hazard) and no one has come in to fix it (no one on the tour would know it's broken so why fix it if it looks okay right??) There's also a lot of problems from my experiences. People who don't live here will come in and knock on the door and make you let them in. As a singular female in the gym wearing gym clothes can be scary and uncomfortable. The maintenance will come in and just start drilling things into walls and not apologize for the disturbance or anything. At least put signs up notifying people that maintenance will be done in the gym? 7. They force you into the meal plan if you're a first year college student. The food is decent but still fatty and the sandwiches are seriously kid meal sized. 8. No RAs or any type of security is here. They say they have someone on patrol but I've seen him like twice. Their maintenance staff tries to sound threatening but they can't do anything. It sounds like a college dream to not have rules but it's honestly so dangerous and the halls can be extremely loud at night. Most are students that live here but there are some older people here who make living here uncomfortable and unsafe. Many residents here are rude and disrespectful. I've had to deal with a lot of stress due to people being loud and slamming their doors at all hours of the night. I realize this is more of a personal problem but not having any rules can lead to issues that just build up over time. Definitely lock your doors. 9. Parking is sometimes difficult because they have these clubs for people who will come in and take our residential parking during the day which we pay for and they don't. Personally, that's a small inconvenience for me but as weeks go by, it starts to become irritating. It's a lot but I tried to say as much as I could because that's how problematic this place is but they sell you in on their amenities and they know they are doing it too. They don't care about you once you sign that lease. They have very low rating for a reason. They look and sound desperate for your money which shouldn't be a good thing because if a business is really thriving then they wouldn't be as desperate. The signs on the street promoting this place is a dead giveaway they need you here because they need your money but they do not want/care about you as a person. There's so much potential to make this student housing to be the best in Chico for young adults but they don't put their focus on the right living conditions. Again I don't know how they haven't gotten into more trouble. I saw a lot of red flags when I first moved in. A lot of parents were complaining and I understand why. Lived there for a whole year and met a bunch of friends who had the same experience as me. All you can eat food 3 times a day had to be our favorite. Food is awesome and prepared like a home cooked meal. Breakfast burritos, sandwich bar, and home cooked dinners made the meal plan totally worth every penny. The rooms are huge with a ton of closet space and the gym, pool, and game room made it feel like a resort rather than a "dorm". The staff are great and very helpful from the front desk to the maintenance workers. Would highly recommend living here especially for you first year students! read more

They are beholden to a larger Trinity Management Group which dictates their rigid leasing policies that places residents into difficult and dangerous living situations. All I have to say is DONT DO IT. I remember being so excited for college and moving into the social, and now I can't wait to move out of this place. The first night moving in the carpet made me feet black. The bathroom was actually SO disgusting, literally mold on the curtains they give you. The shower floor was dark and so hard to take off. The floors looked like they have never been cleaned. The buildings always has a nasty moldy smell. The dinning room is a total rip off, the food is so expensive and if you have an 8am good luck getting food. Their awesome new starbucks has horrible breakfast. And most the stuff at starbucks takes money. So I'll go w out eating a lot bc my classes don't meet their time frames and their "meals on the go" are disgusting. The social will also take as much money as they can for you. Im order to get packages you have to buy a $5 account, I'm order to do laundry you have to buy a $5 card to load money onto it. In order to take meals to go you have to buy a $5 box. You also buy a $100 parking pass and might not even get to park close to your building. I've found myself parking in the way back. They also don't care if your stuff is stolen, i've watched a bike get stolen by homeless and my brother got his bike taken apart and they do nothing for you. The people who work here are so rude to the lady behind the desks is the absolute worse, never nice always snobby. The dinning room people are just as rude, although maintenance will always put a smile on your face. Norma us the sweetest ever. But the hood does not weigh out the bad here. The Social allows the public (drug dealers) live there with college students because of the California laws but the advertising shows college students. Our air conditioning leaked and walls leaked on rainy days and we were given a bucket only. No drying our the walls or carpet we all know that leads to black mold. The air conditioner didn't work on 100 degree days and no sense of urgency to fix. On the tour shown remodeled rooms and one of the first to move in and assigned an old ran down room. I had the best freshman year experience here! I met so many friends with people leaving their doors open in the halls, at community events and just eating at the dining hall. Where should I start? Excellent Customer Service Attentive to Parents and Students Security, friendly staff, room was spacious Flexible lease options My daughter stayed here for the first year in a single renovated suite. She has enjoyed it and has no complaints. When we were not originally given a space in the dorms, I was deeply concerned at the idea of her living in an apartment. I met Nicole on campus (CSU Chico) and adored her. She was easy going yet professional. She was personable and answered my many questions and concerns based on reviews I had read online. She encouraged me to come visit. We finished orientation late and got there after hours. We met Emily, who was off work already. Emily called and got approval to still give us the tour so that I did not have to miss it considering we drove from Southern California. Craig has many laundry facilities, cafeteria, and Starbucks near pool. In the past year, no complaints from my daughter. In fact, she renewed her lease from dorm to apartments. Craig had an RA per floor also which allowed for the dorm room experience, without being stacked in rooms like sardines! Staff Ariel is the person who normally answers the phone when I call. Her voice is always pleasant with excellent customer service. She does great and is always willing to assist however possible. I missed my daughter and would call to ask different questions about activities and other mom things. I can call to speak with Lucy for billing concerns. She responds quickly and is always ready to offer solutions to any concerns. Justine is the manager and is eager to assist and provide feedback. She is focused on making sure all details are addressed and willing to work on behalf of her residents. She treats each person and issue like they are the only concern until everything is corrected. Liberty is the newest to the group of dynamic ladies. She knows the rules as if reading a textbook so feel free to ask her anything! My favorite person is still Nicole because of the impression she gave on initial contact! I have trusted my daughter with them and feel comfortable knowing she is in their hands complete with rules and regulations. They even have a period of time around finals where they require no guest and quiet hours! I loved this place! I tell everyone how horrible this place is. You are forced to buy a $300 cafeteria meal plan added on too your monthly rent if you are a sophomore or under in college. The food is absolute trash and extremely unhealthy, imagine highschool food but worse. My boyfriend lived here and oh my gosh the employees here ARE SO RUDE. I went with him the day of moving in and since I was a senior in highschool the girls kept glaring at me and treating me like a child. They would purposely flirt with my boyfriend in front of me. Also on Halloween your not allowed anyone over at all and I was with my boyfriend bringing back pizza too his dorm and these two rude ass employees snapped at me and told me I wasn't allowed in because I didn't live there. It was only him and I and btw I was already there that afternoon but I wasn't allowed at night??? I can't eat a pizza with him. HORRIBLE. I hate this place and the business owner is a money milking inconsiderate lady. She doesn't care about college students only wants to get the most money she can out of them. Also, parking is $150 a semester but you don't get your own parking space anyone even visitors can park anywhere it's ridiculous. read more

I applied with 3 other roommates for the Social Apartments a couple of months ago. We signed our leases and canopy addendum that was supposedly approved. Two weeks before our move in day, they sent 3/4 of us emails saying that they didn't have space for us. We continued to call that day questioning them and they took half a day to call us back. We were completely confused because we all signed our leases and they were claimed to be approved. This all shows how poor their management is. They have completely left us out on the curb. I do not recommend anyone apply here, because even with a signed and approved lease they will still pull the carpet right out from under your feet. read more

Follow up review after receiving notification regarding the deposit refund. I am happy to say that we received the majority of the refund back. $50 was deducted for carpet cleaning and minor room cleaning which I feel is more than reasonable. One thing that I forgot to mention on my initial review, is that my girls had nothing but nice things to say about their RA's. They are a huge asset there. Thank you. read more

This place is terrible due to the unexpected visits from maintnance who would come in whenever they "seemed necessary". This place also has horrendous wifi. My AC was not functional. If you are going in as a upperclassman and get kitchen opportunities just expect it to get closed down for inconclusive reasons. They basically make you pay extra for a subpar food plan that will garuntee you to gain about 10 pounds within the first month. The only thing good I can see from this dorm is the pool, gym, and the people I met there. read more

I am desperate for student living so when i called i was pretty nervous, but she was like an angel from heaven who told me everything and more i needed to know about living here. From financials, leasing,roomates, meal plans. she told me everything! and even stuff that I didnt even know that I needed to know. I probably never received this good of help from a stranger on the phone before. So after a 20 minute talk Im about to sign up to live here. give her a raise goddamn. read more

I had the misfortune of living here because the main campus didn't have any room. Oh boy, where do we even start with this? I'm going to use bullet points so I don't spend an hour writing all of this: the RA's are rude, we found personal property missing from our rooms after their "inspection crews" would come through, the gym equipment didn't work, the air conditioning/heater didn't work, the management was hostile... and the list goes on. The icing on the cake came after I moved out. They sent me a statement saying they were keeping my deposit and demanded an additional $500! I had never had anybody in my room and didn't hardly move any furniture in! They charged me for repainting the entire room and a bunch of other weird crap that was already there when I moved in. I tried to discuss this with their office staff and everybody in their office was so rude and hostile I couldn't believe it! They kept disregarding my letters and threatening to send me to collections. I finally wound up paying their ridiculous charges so my credit wouldn't be ruined. FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO LIVE! read more
