Sitting at my desk on a Friday, watching the rain hit my window... I thought, "I'm not spending my…read moreweekend here..." My thought processes was where can I go within driving distance with Bentley(my fur-baby), hike and take in beautiful sunsets on the beach.... After a short search Michigan and Highway 31 Cabins checked ALL the boxes! The airbnb hosts Charlie and Andra were great! They responded within minutes to my messages, gave detailed/easy to understand directions to their location and instructions on how to enter the cabin along with where to park(all very much appreciated!)... the area is super cute, half circle of cabins, complete with a fire pit. Once inside everything looked up just as pictured on their Airbnb site; no surprises. My favorite part was the information binder with "insider/local" tips, love exploring the hidden gems to local areas. Lots of amazing sites to see within a reasonable distance. Pictured below are a few of the places I explored during my stay. I'm not telling you where I went... you'll need to book Highway 31 Cabins for the inside scoop. They put a lot of effort in on mapping out locations(all in the information binder); I'm not just going to give it away... ;) The entire process from booking, checking in and out was seamless; overall a great experience!

There are also lots of board games in the cabins themselves. At night every cabin has an outside fire pit perfect for a fire. If your into fishing there are many great rivers and lakes up here with world class fishing. I watched Joe, the proprietor fish as he does apparently every night and it was more worthwhile than the hours of videos on youtube i had watched before on how to do it. I came up here with the men in my family to have a relaxing time and we certainly did. We hope to make this a yearly trip, it was truly that great. A beautiful spacious apartment, with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It easily slept the six of us and we did not feel the least bit over crowded. As there was a group of us the price really was pretty reasonable for the weekend. While family friendly, it could be a bit pricey. The kitchen comes with everything you need from dinner ware to dish soap. There is a large grill on the private porch besides the stove top and oven. Two fireplaces (one is gas and the other you have to light for which they provide all needed materials). There are two flat screen TVs in the main rooms, another in the master bedroom and a small one in the bunk room. The shower in the master bath is huge and there is also a separate large tub. The best part is the large porch that overlooks the beach and Lake Michigan. It wraps around the side around to the back. the view of the lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes is beautiful. The resort also has a gym, outdoor pool and hot tub. Blu, a restaurant I highly recommend, is attached. There is also free wifi (they provide a password). The staff was also amazing, expect to be treated like an honored guest. They take care if anything you might need, even marsh mellows. The only slightly negative thing is that Lebear is a bit off on its own in Glen Arbor. The wineries are about a half hour away which was reasonable. Glen Arbor is small but charming. There are several shops, a couple bars (try Art's Tavern) and a grocery store. The resort is a very short walk from the town.

There are all sorts of tiny details that make Lebear a special place, such as cucumber-ice water by the pool, cookies in the kitchen, and free and easy kayak use on site. The location is excellent. We have stayed at the Homestead in years past, but the Lebear location really sets it apart as it is a quick walk to the grocery stores, restaurants and shops in Glen Arbor. My only complaint is a minor one, and it's just that the bedroom situation is a little funky. In all three of the units I saw, the master bedroom was perfect, but the two smaller guest rooms left much to be desired. One of the bedrooms has a nice queen bed and bunk beds and the other has a double or queen-sized trundle bed. I would think to put the trundle bed in the room with the bunk beds (making it more of a "kids" room) and leave the nice queen-sized bed in its own room. Also, the hallway lighting outside of the two smaller guest rooms was extremely bright at night and made it very difficult to sleep.
