If you are pregnant and need dental work done, DO NOT GO HERE! Dr. Patel discriminates against pregnant patients who use midwives/certified nurse practitioners. Only an OBGYN's clearance is good enough for Dr. Patel unfortunately, leading me to leave this practice for good.
Long story short, I am 5 months pregnant and needed to have a cavity filled, so I got clearance from my certified nurse midwife to get it filled. They first claimed they could not accept it, because she was not a doctor, just a certified nurse practitioner.
I told them I wasn't going to go back to my OBGYN just for clearance because I stopped seeing them for my pregnancy months ago, and they require a 40 dollar co-pay for each visit, which I was not going to pay just to receive clearance I had already gotten from my midwife, who I actively see for my pregnancy.
They took note of this, said they would call me back to see if it was okay with Dr. Patel, and they never called me back. So, I called again begging for an appointment and after they put me on hold for a long time I had to explain my entire situation all over again like they didn't take note of ANY OF IT. It's like they don't take the time to know their patients' situations at all. I shouldn't have to harass my dentist's office just to get an appointment....
At this point, it's worth mentioning that weeks had gone by in between all of this and THE BEST PART IS: I actually cracked an entire corner of my lower left molar off down to the gum line while eating because I COULD NOT SEE A DENTIST THIS WHOLE TIME.
If they had seen me and filled my cavity on time as I requested, they might've noticed this and prevented it from happening in the first place. Needless to say, now I am in big trouble and require expensive dental work all because they neglected A PREGNANT PATIENT. They never gave me the time of day or made it a priority for me to get my dental work done on time and now I have suffered because of it.
Dr. Patel, if you are reading this, keep in mind that not every pregnant woman goes to an OBGYN doctor, and refusing service to those of us who choose certified nurse midwives over doctors is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. My midwifery practice has never dealt with a dentist like you before, and I hope they never have to again.
Please just release my records to my new dentist so I can get the work done that I need. read more
