The home fries were not home fries and the scramble eggs were burnt.

Slye Fox review I've driven by "The Slye Fox" on New Street many times and the façade intrigued me because I enjoy a British pub. Even though it was situated in an unattractive (grubby) plaza, the pub front looked inviting. The announcement of "New Management" and accompanying specials convinced us to try their breakfast special. It was two-for-one. How bad could it be? First impression? It was an adorable British style pub crammed into a narrow mall unit. Service? Lousy The waitress failed to welcome us. She simply appeared after several minutes and asked for our order. While we were stating our order she didn't write it down, Instead, she fluffed her hair while we ordered. About five minutes later, she returned to ask for our orders again. This time she appeared to write it down. There were only five other couples when we ordered. Yet, we waited more than 15 minutes for our food. The menu listed a Scottish sausage patty so I asked for that. The waitress responded with "We're out of sausage." So I asked about the link sausage. She didn't know and she disappeared for at least five minutes before she returned with the answer - "no link sausage either". When we sat down, I noticed at least two tables with cups and utensils left from previous customers. The waitress cleared one of them before we finished. The other table was still uncleared when we left. It was evident that the parties at those tables have left before we arrived and the waitress couldn't be bothered to clear them. She wasn't busy. It occurred to me that this person had never worked as a waitress before. Was she related to the owner? Did the owner realize how badly she was hurting the restaurant? Food? Filling but... lousy It's difficult to mess up bacon and eggs but the Slye Fox managed to do that. My scrambled eggs were browned - almost burned. Not what I wanted. The bacon was the very slim bacon strips used by people that don't want the bother of cooking bacon or the pleasure of eating real bacon. It tasted like salty cardboard. The potatoes were described as home fries but they were really hash browns. Conclusion It was cheap and lousy. No more breakfast for me at the Slye Fox.

Special of the day. Stuffed Pork Loin for $12. Really quite good, especially when you consider the price.

Upon entering the establishment shortly after 12am, I had to excuse myself to get past two patrons loitering on the front door steps inhibiting the entrance to get in. "Excuse me I said ", the one gentleman stepped aside saying sorry, no worries I replied to him. Apparently when I opened the door to enter my backpack brushed the other gentleman in the chest. Didn't actually realize until I was through the entrance, looked back as he was clearly overreacting to the incidental contact upon myself entering. I entered the restaurant, dropped my knapsack and went back to apologize to the gentleman. Words were specifically, " sorry my backpack bumped you went i entered, i think you kind of overreacted. " The other gentleman who actually moved when i excused myself passing them, got all indignant, belligerent, and agitated followed me into the restaurant looking for a confrontation. I actually unaware of this as it was unfolding was caughg off guard as my friends intervened what was going to be a physical altercation. It was actually, said gentleman was physical with my friend who was having my back, continued to be aggressivd. Taunted me, still being aggressive...upon which time the bar staff asked 'ME' to leave... are you kidding me i said, I'm not the person loitering on the front step, blocking patron and then getting aggressive abd starting an altercation. Not at all pleased with how the staff dealt with this. Total bs. I've been attending the Poacher establishment for close to 40 years. They just lost a huge amount of respect in my eyes. I will be sharing this incident with many friends and potential customers. Discouraging supporting this establishment. Not happy one little bit.

Unprofessional and Discriminatory Behavior by Bar Staff…read more In Canada, you have the right to be free from discrimination in public places, including restaurants. I believe that our city has the potential to be a welcoming and inclusive place for all. I recently visited The Dickens and had a very disappointing experience, and I believe it is important to address this matter to ensure it does not happen to others. During my visit, I observed the bar staff member, taking multiple shots of alcohol while on duty. This unprofessional behavior was concerning enough, but what made the situation worse was the discriminatory treatment I received. Despite my attempts to order, I was repeatedly ignored by the staff members, while other patrons were served promptly. I believe the lack of service I received was due to discrimination, which is completely unacceptable. I got a dirty look from one of the female staff members, a short blond, while having a discussion, huddled with the other bar staff members. That's when the dark haired female staff member walked up to me and said they are denying me of service, with no explanation. This left me feeling unwelcomed, hurt, and discriminated against. To address the issue, I called the restaurant to speak to the manager. Unfortunately, I was met with rudeness and was unable to properly discuss my concerns. When I asked for the managers email, I was speedily told and then abruptly hung up on. Such behavior reflects poorly on the establishment and raises serious concerns about its commitment to treating all customers fairly and respectfully. I expect The Dickens takes this feedback seriously and implements necessary changes and addresses these issues to ensure a professional, welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers. I hope that this incident does not reflect the values of your establishment. Racism is subtle these days, existing in locations where it is difficult to see because it is viewed as a social taboo. I found it at the restaurant, but I'm not sure where else it may be. I didn't realize that racism still exists in some places. Until I saw it in front of my eyes. Black consumers had to wait longer than white customers and were refused service.

Having been back here close to a dozen times over the last decade, I can firmly say this place is the perfect combination of gastro-ingenuity and traditional staples done right. The vibe is "industrial chic," which is essentially code for "I'm feeling something fancy, but still want to be able to visit in my Kirkland shorts." The food has a heavy focus on local ingredients, with flavors that are incredibly tight and well-balanced. The steak frites are so tender I'm pretty sure they were cut with a polite suggestion rather than a knife. The scallops are meaty and perfectly cooked. And of course the burger is absolutely mouthwatering and make it the tempting default option during each visit. The appetizers are all fantastic, Kat and the Korean cauliflower takes the cake! For desert, their house cheesecake is phenomenal, and their in house amber ale is full and flavourful. Our server was on the ball; the water was never empty, and the check ins were always at the right time. Verdict: 10/10. If you want western food with a fun twist and high quality ingredients, this is one spot you must check out!

The service was great, our server gave us a free latte because their coffee machine took forever to work. I got a hazelnut old fashion and it tasted amazing. I would recommend this place!

You will get an okay meal with decent service here. He had the bangers and mash and I had the roasted beet and goat cheese salad. While my salad was pretty good, the bangers and mash were the okay part...which should not have been the case in a British pub. The service was pretty decent. I would return if in the area and was craving this type of food to give it another shot.

Recently I went if for a quick beverage and overheard rave reviews for their $18.00 burger. There may have been a side but I wasn't interested. I told the bartender I wasn't interested in a side. The burger was expensive enough, I had salad at home. He persisted, convinced me there wouldn't be a charge. I ordered it to go. After paying the bill i notice a 'side' charge. I brought it up to the bartender. I just wanted the hamburger! What part of that 'repeated' statement did he not get? His response was cavalier & dismissive. 'Oh well, can't do anything about it now, you've already paid!' I get home to find an overcooked, dry $20.00 something hamburger. Some things you let slide. Not this $20 something hamburger & a side of 'I could care less'. I left a message for the manager that evening, explaining what happened. Never heard from them again. This isn't the first time I've had an unpleasant experience. One bartender pressured me to give him more (grats) money because he let me 'taste' a beverage or two. He was inebriated. Someone should be paying attention to this. Management certainly doesn't seem to. Shame, I liked the place and most of the staff.
