I know, two stars may seem harsh for a 'charming' Welsh inn, but hear me out.
My boyfriend, his mother and I drove 3 hours out of the way in order to visit this place and spend the night. We're pretty familiar with northern Wales as his mother has a ton of family there (though she's English), but we had never traveled this far south. We called a couple days before just to make sure our reservations for the night were still good (and we also specifically asked for room 1 because according to trip advisor, it was the most haunted.)
It was a little tough trying to find it, but eventually did and settled in and started walking around. This place is creepy as HELL - weird vibes, slate/stone floors and walls in the bar, wooden beams everywhere - the works. Our room, room 1, was HUGE!! It was the size of an NYC studio, and the bathroom was down about 7 steps in the room. Room 1 occupies the former court and prisoner's cell. Room 2 is much smaller.
We were starving, so pretty soon after we sat down to eat. This is where my complaints begin. Although many people had raved about the food, we didn't find it to be that good at all. It was like all the other food we'd had at various restaurants in Wales. Eating the food was the easy part, though. Getting the attention of the bar maid was difficult and when she did finally come over to talk to us, it was never more than necessary, and we couldn't get a chat going at all. I thought it may have have had something to do with me and my boyfriend being American, but she seemed pretty cold towards his English mother, as well.
After dinner, we experienced some problems with the tv in room 2 and the male innkeeper came in to help us and ended up making us seem incompetent, but not in the funny way you laugh about because it was so easy, but in the 'gosh, I'm sorry to have bothered you, I just didn't know' way.
As per the haunted happenings, there was definitely something strange going on. After reading the guest book in the restaurant, it seemed that room 2 was the most haunted, not room 1, so we took a few pictures. Nothing developed, but we felt some really strange things in room 1, including feeling AND hearing the bed depress next to my head, and my boyfriend said it felt like someone was playing with his hair.
If you want to experience some paranormal stuff at any cost, then come here. But, I wouldn't hold out for good food, kindness, or hospitality. The near rudeness of the two people that run this place scared us away before the ghosts did! read more
