Julia Brown Schools - Silver Spring Campus

I wanted to share my experience with Julia Brown School regarding my daughter's time there…read more Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing and left us feeling that the environment was not supportive of helping children adjust and thrive. When my daughter was placed in a new classroom, she had been there for less than a full day before we began receiving calls asking us to pick her up because she was "not listening to instructions." As any parent knows, transitions to a new classroom can be challenging for young children. It typically takes time for them to feel comfortable with new teachers, classmates, and expectations. Instead of allowing her a reasonable adjustment period or working with us on strategies to help her settle in, the school seemed irritated by the situation and quick to remove her from the classroom. We were hoping the staff would demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a child-centered approach--giving her at least a week or two to adapt to the new environment. Unfortunately, that level of support and understanding was not demonstrated. Repeated calls to pick her up after such a short time in the classroom made it feel like the priority was convenience rather than helping a child succeed. Every child deserves educators who are willing to guide them through transitions with patience and care. We had hoped for a more supportive and professional approach from the school in ensuring that our child had the opportunity to adjust and thrive.

The teachers are phenomenal and the campus is clean and neat. School communications are clear and prompt, there's always someone there to answer questions or concerns. One of my favorite parts of JBS Silver Spring is the community. We have met life-long friends both for the kids and us parents. Often when a child leaves JBS Silver Spring, we stay in touch with the family since the kids build such a close bond. I can't imagine us being anywhere else, it's truly our dream school come true.

The welcoming, child-based community envelops not just the students but the entire family. Parents get quite an education as the teachers are highly skilled resources/partners in this unique, inclusive, warm, engaging, fun environment where your children will gain confidence, social skills, problem solving skills...on and on!! It lays the foundation and will benefit them throughout their lives. The friendships made within those walls often(!) lasts a lifetime. This is by far, the best experience I've had with a nursery school/ child care facility/ school…read moreever. The community is fun, friendly and flexible. The staff is knowledgeable, and their expertise in kids is an aggregate of over 50 years experience. The school creates a great environment for child social development and parent education, offering everything from potty training to sensory development classes (to help parents better understand no only their own kids, but the kids in the community as well. As a young cooping father, I've learned lots of ways of being more productively involved with my kids. Since starting with my daughter at SSNS 2 years ago, I went from helping my elementary school son with homework, to being actively involved in his school's PTA. I talk to everyone about SSNS, and would recommend it to any family with young kids.

I was apprehensive about this place at first due to the location. However, after meeting Dr. Crump and touring the center, I decided to give this place a try. I am beyond pleased with that decision. The school came highly recommended by parents whose kids (most who are now teenagers) attended QTLC. The word of mouth testimony from these different sources convinced us to give it a try and we are glad that we did! Our son did learn and grow a lot! He was always excited about his teachers (Mrs. Creek and Ms Amy) and classmates. He transitioned into Kindergarten this Summer and we are excited to see him put into practice all that he learned here (QTLC's curriculum is more advanced). We are still in touch with some of his classmates and their parents from Pre- K - thanks to the friendships cultivated here. Throughout our time at QTLC, the administrative staff and classroom teachers were very friendly and responsive. We really appreciate Mr. Crump and all the team members at QTLC. Please keep up the excellent work! God bless you all!

Lowell has done so much to support our kids academically and socially, including during the difficult pandemic years. Our boys love going to school, and they have a vocabulary to express their feelings in amazing ways. The teachers are first-rate and the small classes and first-name basis with everyone has helped our kids feel like they are part of a real community that has a set of progressive, shared values. The campus is awesome, too, from the classroom spaces to the beautiful outdoor front field and playground spaces, plus being across the street from Rock Creek park. I was a public school kid, but my wife sold me on the benefit of a K-8 school, and I'm so glad she did. We are so glad we chose Lowell, and we know our kids will see benefits from the school throughout their lives.
