The first thing that surprised us was the process. Instead of ordering by the dozen like back home, you're handed a bag and a pair of tongs and told to pick out your own live crabs! Then they weigh your bag since the crabs are sold by the pound. At $6.99 per pound, we ended up with nearly two dozen crabs for right around $70. The first batch of crabs available was a little... slim pickings, so we asked if they had larger ones. The staff happily brought out another bucket, and we were able to find some much nicer-sized crabs. Everyone was friendly, courteous, and happy to help. Back at the resort, we steamed them up, and they were delicious! They were mostly full, and only one or two were light. The only disappointment? As people who've eaten both Atlantic and Gulf blue crabs, we could immediately tell these weren't Gulf crabs. They tasted like Atlantic crabs, so that took away a bit from the experience since we were hoping for something different. Overall, Buddy Gandy's gets 4 out of 5 stars from me.
