I just spent a week's holiday in Llangrannog. I was prepared for the beautiful views and the first-rate walking, but I was not prepared for this gem of a little-restaurant situated above a pub. Once discovered, I ate there 3 nights out of 6.
The Ship, or Y Llong, is made up of just one room, with windows facing the sea. Simple, yet nice. The set menu contains a range of dishes with many of them featuring local products, such as the lamb. It is, however, the daily specials that make the place shine. They feature local seafood and fish, much of which was caught by the restaurant's owner. Each meal starts with a fine slice of handmade bread and good Welsh butter. I had a range of starters, from local crab cakes to my favourite Thai-inspired fish cakes with a chili sauce. The main courses were equally well-thought out. The lamb, while simple, was very good. The bream was excellent and beautifully prepared. The best of my dinners was the cod topped with cockerels: first-rate.
In each and every case, the presentation was perfect -- and each plate would have been at home in any high-end restaurant in any major city. The staff was both knowledgeable and friendly. The dress code was casual, as befitting a coastal holiday village. All told dinner at The Ship was the perfect end to a summer's day. read more
