When we sat down there were a number of offers on show, there was a two or three course offer and then on a three sided promotional advert, Chicken Tuesday and mentioned the app. Lucky us, it was a Tuesday! I showed the flyer to the waitress and chose 12 roast chicken and my wife showed the two and three course menu nd selected two courses. We thought nothing more of it until we had gone to pay where the first receipt showed no discount, each item was charged at full price, next I said we had the two course offer and Chicken Tuesday offer. We were then told that we couldn't have both offers. The waitress said nothing to us when we ordered and also there was nothing on the Chicken Tuesday flyer- guess what it is hidden in the terms and conditions on the app. What I con! I then said we would split the bill, 'no you won't they said' so we had to pay with only one offer taken. I contacted Harvester and exchanged emails with Clare who said that they had investigated it and the waitress said we didn't order off the flyer and the two course offer menu- this is just lies! Got nowhere with Clare at Harvester CS and so that is the last time I eat at a Harvester!!!

Food - The coffee is horrendous, and salad bar is just average. It was oddly setup, since if it had two sides, each of which had part prepared salads and part build-your-own (i.e. Cucumber, corn, etc.) It would've been helpful to group like items together. The mains were also just adequate. My husband had the 8oz steak, which was more well done than medium, and my Aubergine & Red Lentil Tangine had decent flavour, but an odd texture. (The accompanying tortilla and guacamole also felt out of place with the Moroccan-like curry.) Service - The server was very sweet, but perhaps a little forgetful, so things were sometimes missing. It was almost quite a bit difficult to catch her attention, though in fairness she did seem to have a bit to do and had to run to the back to get some items for requests (likely poor restaurant design). Toilets - Nice and modern, decently clean.

We were heading back to London the next day, and at first thought "too bad this isn't on our way home," but the next morning decided we wanted to see more of the park anyway, as well as a few other points north before our weeklong adventure adjourned... What a pleasure it was to stop here on that dreary morning! When we arrived around 10:30am, the whole place was bustling with what turned out to be a tour group of retirees, about to tour the historic adjacent mill. The setup is counter service style: order your items, take your number and choose a table (indoors or outdoors). Most of the indoor tables overlook the brook running through the mill; the outdoor tables are in the courtyard of the mill buildings. They don't have a true breakfast, per se, but they have teas, coffee/espresso drinks, breads, cakes and cookies available all day, most of which are made using grains locally harvested and milled right there. There are some gluten free options available as well. At 11:30, their lunch menu is available and features sandwiches, soup and salads, all made from locally sourced, processed and grown Welsh foods. We were still finishing up our morning coffee, enjoying the chill vibe of the place (especially after the tour group moved on - haha!) by the time lunch was available, so we decided to stick around a little longer and try it out too! After much deliberation about how to best sample their offerings (everything sounded AMAZING), we opted for a soup/sandwich combo with the ham, cheese & mustard sandwich and fresh garden pea and mint soup, along with a "board" that included salad, two cheeses, local ham, an apple, fresh cherry tomatoes, house chutney and fresh bread. So simple, but so delicious!! We ate it ALL... I can't recommend enough the sheer quality of this real, simple but delicious local food. Other items to note: Credit cards require a £10 minimum charge. Locally made gifts and gourmet food items are available for purchase. Restroom entrance is in the courtyard, but there are public toilets in the adjacent building, facing the street as well. Free Wi-Fi. Check out the Talgarth Mill Craft Shop next door if you are looking for locally made Welsh treasures to take home. Free parking (and recycling drop-off) is available a couple of short blocks away, just off the highway. The Talgarth visitor's centre across the street is there for all kinds of information about the area, or, if you'd just like to converse with the friendly locals.

Let me tell you a little about the location of this pub hotel. Situated in the provincial Welsh town of Carmarthen, a place seemingly stuck in a pre-millennium timewarp filled with some pleasant locals but primarily a demographic of OAPs, lager louts and bored looking teenagers, in which the only source of entertainment is to marinate oneself in as much alcohol as your enzymes can handle. The location aside the Rose and Crown is fairly innocuous in terms of looks, although I did sense a ripple of tension from the locals as we walked into the pub (The League of Gentlemen kept popping into my head for some inexplicable reason!) I had come down to Carmarthen to surprise my fiancé as he was working down there for a few days, and staying at the hotel. Despite his already having paid for the room I still had to pay £20 for the privilege of sleeping in the other unoccupied single bed in my partner's room. Apparently the manageress was doing us a favour by allowing this, and told us that they'd had problems with guests bringing...ahem...."visitors" back to stay before. Despite feeling slightly disgruntled by being categorised with certain ladies of the night I paid up as quite frankly I couldn't be bothered driving the hour and a half home. There were 8 rooms in all, each fairly basic in design but clean and serviceable. The bathrooms were a happy surprise - each with a large, new shower cubicle, which were very well maintained. The beds were, like most cheap hotels, not exactly the height of comfort but quite frankly we were so exhausted we would've slept on anything. Unfortunately however sleep alluded me all night, with a cacophony of noise spewing from the pub and the locals trundling up and down the street until 5.30am. I was so tired by the time my alarm went off I decided to skip breakfast to catch a few extra precious minutes sleep. If you're a night owl yourself The Rose and Crown would probably suit you down to the ground, but as a resting place for tired business persons, or as a romantic getaway (though I can't imagine anyone choosing Carmarthen for a romantic weekend away) I would recommend you stay elsewhere!

The owner of this small cafe/deli is one of the many people running the operations behind the display counter. As you walk in the shop, you first see a little shop that sells cards and trinkets. In the far end is the display case and counter where you can order food. The other half of the restaurant is the dining area, where the food is brought to your table. The decor of this place is wonderful - quaint country cottage style theme with bright colours, simple wooden furnishing, while maintaining minimalism. Great place for a bunch of girls to meet for brunch (as was most of the clientele when we arrived for brunch before we headed out to go castle hunting for the day. The food selections are limited to sandwiches and salads as it is a cafe but they do a great job with the menu. We had: - two capuccinos - one chorizo and chicken wrap: tasted mexican and was recommended by the owner - one breakfast toastie: came with a delicious salsa The total was about 13 quid and the atmosphere makes you not want to leave. Also they have free wifi. They close at 5pm so it's not a place to have dinner. If I lived in Newport, I'd definitely be here all the time.

Well we were stunned when we walked in, very tasteful, comfortable and elegant were our first thoughts. So much attention to detail we couldn't stop looking round and taking it all in. The staff were very warm and friendly, as the Welsh generally are, and made us feel at home. When we finally sat down to eat our meal in the light airy and spacious dining room we were very relaxed, happy and spoilt. But things were about to get better once we tasted our food. All the veg comes from their own organic garden and the lamb that most of us chose as our main comes from the salt marsh in the surrounding area, we'd never tasted anything like it. The meal was very good quality for normal restaurant prices and so was the wine and locally brewed real ales. Most of us had 2 courses and 2 drinks so the average price worked out at £25 per head. The toilets were clean and beautifully done and i was very impressed with the Ren smellies girls like these indulgences when they wash their hands. We relaxed in the bar with some baileys on ice and a lovely warm fire. What a perfect evening. We asked to see the rooms and were so happy decided to come back with some family and stay for a night as an indulgence. We stayed mid week as it was cheaper £150 a night and with that came champagne on arrival, bed, breakfast and afternoon tea, which i strongly reccomend arriving early for. We wanted to make the most our stay so arrived about 2.30pm we had champagne whilst admiring our beautifully decorated rooms and then went across for afternoon tea which consisted of, tea, coffee, mini scones with cream, welsh cakes, sandwiches and other slices of delicious cake. Full and happy we admired the building once more and relaxed in the comfortable bar. We then went back to our rooms to change and sat down for dinner at about 7pm. Again we had a wonderful meal a few drinks and retired to our rooms, which we wanted to spend time in as they were also lovely. In the morning we had a delicious Welsh breakfast with loads of tea and sadly left our fabulous little retreat in this beautiful part of Wales. If theres one place you must come in your lifetime its here, we all thoroughly enjoyed it and the village of Laugharne down the road is also well worth the visit also, if not for its famous heritage as the poet Dylan Thomas's piece of Wales but for its sheer beauty.

We are a demanding family…read moreof four so we did give it a good workout :) Initial correspondence was through email and the receptionists dealt with most enquiries fabulously, there were a couple of occasions whereby questions were not answered fully or were completely ingnored. We arrived in the pouring rain (this didnt change much over our stay). We checked in which went smoothly and were shown to our rooms. Initially we thought they were fab then realised that there were no wardrobes or indeed any storage space in either of the rooms; only one tiny bin in the bathroom, which was very nice but could have done with a bigger bath as there was plenty of space, and no fridge. Oh and our TV did not work even when the batteries in the remote were changed twice within the week. Anyway we met up with our aunt and her family that evening and we decided to eat at the restaurant at Hurst House. There were two menus, the daily and the a la carte. Neither menu was fantastic but they were adequate. Within our party there was a gluten free menu and a complicated vegetarian menu. The staff had been told well in advance but nothing was said to us about our choices and I had to make a fuss. Anyway the meal was fine and everyone enjoyed what they had. We went to bed but didnt sleep much. Breakfast the following morning and the hotel had made no effort to aquire gluten free bread or sausages for breakfast, which was disappointing but as always had taken some bread with me. There was no options for our daughter to have a cooked breakfast either as there were no Quorn options to replace the sausages etc. Breakfast service throughout the week was very slow if you wanted hot drinks or hot food or indeed if the juice needed refilling. There didn't seem to be anyone looking out for items running out and replacing before the event which meant that a guest had to specifically track someone down to sort things out. Over the week the reception staff and a couple of the staff in the restuarant helped to make the week fantastic. However food did get put on our bill from another table and spelling mistakes on the bill ie cawliflower and exhebition, together with some staff who gave the impression that they were working under sufferance, together with having to keep asking for toiletries to be replaced did put a bit of a dampener on it. There is a small gym with state of the art equipment, bike, rower, running and eliptical machines, the spa was lovely but with only two therapists and two rooms that did not work together it meant that we had to have treatments after each other and not at the same time which was a shame. The therapists used elemental herbology products which were lovely but the room got really cold and the therapist didnt check with me how I was doing or if I needed a blanket etc. She did ask if I wanted water after making her jump whilst having a coughing fit. Included in the price of the room is afternoon tea but again this was disappointing from a gluten free point of view. There was nothing for me to eat and only a couple of cakes for our vegetarian. The boys enjoyed the nibbles and the tea, coffee and juice were lovely. The reception staff were given a list of adventures to book for us and all credit to them, fitted everything in for us in the time we had, we had to cancel the paintballing because the rain was coming across the beach horizontally, but that was our choice and not the organisers. We tried land yachting which was amazing but boy did the muscles hurt the next day? The girls tried horse riding and only one of the riders got bounced and had to hang on for dear life whilst the other laughed :) The boys tried coasteering and whilst they were both dubious to start off with loved it and the challenges that came with it. They both show the grazes and cuts as if they were trophies of their time. All in all our time at Hurst House was lovely but their is still room for improvement.. We would having said all the above, go back to stay :)
