Shamraat is quite a strange name for a business. It has one too many a's in 'raat' for my liking and I guess that kind of annoys me. It looks weird, and it sounds like someone's shouting it as they fall from a great height.
If the name sounds slightly strange or exotic, chances are it's an Indian or Chinese restaurant and, in this case, it's an Indian restaurant that is just one of a few in Ormskirk that offers the locals a flavour of Indian cuisine on their doorstop (though not quite literally, of course).
Their menu features all the usual suspects that you'd expect to find in an Indian restaurant - korma, jalfrezi, masala, vindaloo - plus a few house and chef specials that are always worth a try if you're feeling lucky (or you're not thinking about how it will affect you tomorrow morning). The restaurant itself is comfortable enough and the waiters are friendly and attentive, without making you feel like they're watching your every move. read more
