I've purchased from The Shade Store twice now ... once when I lived in California and again now that I live in Oregon. Both were positive experiences. They're not the cheapest window coverings you can find, but I think the product quality and the professional installation service make it worth it. Even if you have the best product, if it's not installed correctly or professionally, it's a bummer. Both times now, I've been impressed with the installation, which was done quickly and very well. There was a time we had a new house with no blinds on the main floor. I convinced myself that I wanted the lighting, I didn't mind, whatever. The truth is I had hard time deciding. Once we decided to get shades, this place made it all worthwhile! From the beginning Justin Roberts was there to help along the way. He told us our options, answered all my questions (there were a few) and helped setup appointments. This is a really a six star place. It can look a little intimidating going to their showroom but know you'll be in good hands. And they do have a mind boggling amount of options. Once I had to finalize my upper shades, I consulted with Mary who was just as helpful. Overpriced and low quality, stay away. We ordered three custom blinds for a bay window- two small and one large. We wanted cordless cellular which we have on the rest of the home's windows, but The Shade Store claimed that for the large window, only a corded option was available, and that it would cost $850 for just that one. We went with that, and in a year the cord broke. Just from raising it in the morning and lowering in the evening, no special uses. We called assuming they would repair it, but nope- they said it would cost $400+ to repair! Utterly ridiculous, especially assuming it would just break again in a year. They clearly do not stand behind their product. I went to an online blinds retailer and ordered a replacement, and guess what- it was available as a cordless option and only cost $420. Looks great and I installed it in minutes. read more

Almost a 5 - the best thing about the whole process is we love our curtains. The free measuring and loads of samples were fabulous! We compared shade store fabric to every possible local and online curtain vendor and the linen for drapes was high quality- could not be matched! Why the four stars? The hardware and installation - high price for so so quality and installation price was very expensive for what is offered. Shade store does not have quality and selection for hardware and what they do have came in at 1k higher than other quotes Apple to apples. Search carefully for the same rods and you'll see the hardware sold at SS is middle quality but top shelf prices. The motorized track offered can not connect to any app ( like G00gle home) to set on a timer to open and close and did not come in any decorative rods. We ended up saving the installation cost and hardware price and getting a much nicer motorized rod that connects to the home system from an online vendor. Be aware everything ordered from shade store comes shipped directly to you and the rod comes in two parts unless you pay an extremely high surcharge (approx 200) installation cost I thought were very high and does not include steaming the curtains of wrinkles. ( although, if you order linen, not needed once hung) read more

One thing I truly believe is spending more money on quality is worth it in the long run. The Shade Store is a perfect example of this retail belief of mine. The quality, customer service and product were superior to all other blind/shade experiences, and my husband and I had a few. We met with three other shade/blind people at our house. Apparently is the norm for this industry? The Shade Store's pattern choices and quality of fabric were far superior than anything else we saw. And trust me, we looked at a lot of fabrics. We worked with Monica, and she took time to make sure we knew how to measure our windows and emailed us CAD images of the blinds on our windows so we could envision how it would look. Sure, the Shade Store might be more expensive than the ubiquitous 3 Day Blinds, Budget Blinds, etc. but it's SO WORTH it. read more

We had an excellent experience with Justin Roberts at the Shade Store. We were looking for two shades to cover the west-facing sliding doors in our family room. My husband and I made several trips to the store, coming home each time with samples to hold up as the sunlight streamed into our room in the afternoon. Justin was very helpful in helping us pick the material, and hardware, and talked with us about taking the measurements ourselves or having them do it. Justin has a cool tool to use. We sent him photos of the doors and he "wrote" on the photos as to where the shades would be mounted. Quite effective! What impressed us: The knowledge and patience Justin showed. His colleague was equally good when we saw her on Justin's day off. We felt the quality of the material (and the anticipated quality of the installation) would fit our expectations for our newly renovated house. The guys was super nice at the store. Made an appointment to get an in-home quote. We both took off from work early to meet the person. Well, the person that was supposed to come did not show up, nor did anyone call. The next day we got a call, saying the person got busy and could not make it yesterday, when would we like to re-schedule. You blow us completely and then think we will still give you our business. I don't recommend doing business with The Shade Store. I ordered 2 simple roller shades from the Portland, Oregon store. I used their professional measurement and paid for installation to minimize the potential for errors.The first set of shades was too narrow and had to be reordered. The next set was still too narrow.The third set was finally the correct size. It took 79 days from order to completed installation, on a simple order that was estimated by the sales representative to take about 2.5 weeks. A scheduled installation on the second set of shades was cancelled without anyone notifying me because they sent incorrect brackets. Customer Service offered no special treatment until I escalated and demanded a partial refund and expedited production and shipment on the third set of shades. I'm satisfied with the final product, but will never do business with The Shade Store again. read more
