Wife and I ate there last night. We weren't too impressed with the exterior, the neighborhood or the fact that it's attached to a carry-out. But it was next door to our hotel so we gave it a try. It turned out great. We loved the inside decor and the food and service were excellent. I even loved the bruschetta my wife ordered and I'm not normally a big fan. We had one steak special and the oriental chicken salad and both were excellent. Prices were reasonable. We'll be back next time thru Superior. read more

The Shack--not bad for what it is. It has a pretty extensive menu, and the night I was there they had a fellow playing jazz; very mellow. They have prime rib on the menu, and fish--of course. People I was with seemed to enjoy their meal; I wasn't very hungry so I only ordered a baked potato and the vegetable of the day, steamed baby carrots--which was okay. The side of sour cream came in a little cup and had separated, but I didn't think it would kill me, so I ate it anyway; wasn't very generous. Overall, most people could find something to eat--very basic restaurant; not great, not horrible--but it seems oddly popular. read more

Sorry that I can't review the food. We waited 45 minutes for a burger and a salad, only to be told that it would be another 10-15 minutes. We had to hit the road. The place was clearly understaffed with only one waitress/bartender on duty. We were also told only one cook was on duty. Not cool. The waitress was busting her butt, so not her fault. Management needs to re-examine staffing. read more

First and last time eating here. Prime rib sandwich was cold and lacking in flavor. Not to mention the fries were burnt and rock hard.

I have always enjoyed my visits to the Shack. We have attended a couple dinner theaters, a Comedy Show and a charity benefit with a large jazz band. Recently we have started attending the Friday Night party on the patio and have enjoyed the festivities, games, food and the nightly beverage sponsors contribution to the fun. The food is great from the Giant Blooming Onion and the Bong Bites to the Prime rib, bbq ribs and the pasta and chicken amongst others. read more

Absolutely the worst meal I've ever had at a restaurant. Ordered a turkey bacon sandwich on ciabatta bread. The turkey tasted old and was dry. I think the bacon was leftover from breakfast. It was dry, burnt, and flavorless. This sandwich had a good looking picture in the menu. When I got it there was a huge, hard (as a rock) piece of (I think) fried cheese!!? Gross. I had to break it in half to even discover what it possibly was. Disgusting. We will not be back. Ever. read more

Terrible name for a fantastic place! We expected a dive but found a wonderfully elegant dining experience. We had a little sticker shock at first (because the best and most reasonable food is in Green Bay WI) but, the food was definitely worth the price. White tablecloths, heavy wood trim, warm bread handsome waiters and good cocktails along with wonderful food makes this a go back to place. The 2 of us both ordered steak medallions and shrimp. His shrimp broiled, mine deep fried. The Caesar salad was wonderful. (although $1.00 extra which was not mentioned) We would definitely go back. It was a great dining experience. read more

Been there twice recently. Do not go there if you want timely service. Eventually had to go to the bar try and pay. No one there for 5 minutes plus my server was gone too. Ended guessing at my bill and leaving it on my table. Won't go there again. read more

Man, has this place gone downhill. The ribs were bad. The meat itself was fatty and mushy textured. The BBQ sauce had too much vinegar, and was this and cheap tasting. I used to love this place many years ago, and always got great food. But now, we'', we'll never go back. I honestly cant think of a worse BBQ joint. read more

Since the remodel into a "bar with a restaurant" instead of a "restaurant with a bar" about a year ago it is no longer worth the trip.

I love this place...the food is really good and unlike a lot of the chain restaurants in town, you can tell it's made from scratch and not from a bag or a box. They smoke their own ribs, and have a big menu with lots of good things to choose from. What I really like is that I can tell the owners are working at improving the place all the time. I've been noticing ongoing improvement projects for the past year or so, and the place is easily becoming the nicest restaurant in Superior. They redid the bar last year and it's cool looking and the bartenders are very nice. They also started doing comedy nights every so often and my wife and I attended a show in March that was great. The room was packed, the comedians were great, and we had a super time. We haven't had a chance to attend their dinner theatre yet, but hope to do so soon as I hear it's a good time. In closing, I encourage you to check this place out (especially in the bar during their happy hour which runs seven days a week). As a Superior resident, it's nice to have a place to go to nearby without having to travel to Duluth for a good time. read more
