Sniff it, people. This particular florist is a little unusual for a couple of reasons. FIrstly, there didn't seem to be actually all that many flowers. They have a lot of general decorative paraphernalia, which is nice, but they mostly take orders for flowers, hence not being knee-deep in gerberas. They are also next to the Co-op funeral parlour, which is, of course, sensible, but also a little morbid. For people that just want some flowers to brighten up the place, that is, rather than being constantly reminded of death. In fact, there is an adjoining door between the two businesses, which, again, is all very practical but just seems a bit.... conveyor-belt funeral style to me. They clearly also cater for happier occasions also, with lots of 'New Baby' displays, which brightens the place up a bit. Birth, death and flowers. Aside from the WHIFF OF DEATH, this place also caters for more happy occasions and will provide arrangements for all sorts of occasions, from birthdays to weddings. The staff are friendly and helpful and, if you're like me and a complete novice when it comes to buying flowers for a loved one, will help you pick out a suitable arrangement. I've purchased some unique animal cards from here before (including cute hamster ones) which have been sent out to many of my friends on their birthdays. Unfortunately, Cosas Preciosas isn't as special as it makes out to be, and the exterior of the store looks as though it hasn't had a lick of fresh paint in several years; not very aesthetically enticing. Inside, you are bombarded with plants. It's a little overwhelming, because you literally cannot move without knocking something over or having to duck under something. It's very messy and very dark inside, which makes the shop difficult to explore. Additionally, I couldn't really find anything that pointed out this place as a florist; to me, it looked as though it simply sold plants. I couldn't see any freshly arranged flowers, or any bunches at all, which I found a little strange. Outside is probably the best part of the shop, because it is littered with garden plants such a marigolds and pansies. For any keen gardeners, there's a great selection to look at, and the prices are cheaper than your standard garden centres. There's also a cafe within this tiny complex. It was closed at the time I was visiting (3pm), so I'm not sure if they open this section at the moment.

Inside there's more cut flowers to be found as well as a pretty impressive display of ribbons and cards - they are able to make up bouquets, wreaths etc and the prices are pretty cheap - certainly compared to some similar shops just down the road in Harborne. The lady who runs it is nice and wears a dazzling tabbard and the mixed bunch of flowers I brought just under a week ago is still going strong so all in all pretty encouraging stuff.
