It just sells cooking and kitchen stuff but I want to get in there and find some sort of gadget that I don't currently have and that will change my life. Ideally something electric that makes a werring type of noise and hopefully makes a mess...... A family run business selling everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, pots, pans, scales, coffer machines, spatula's, clocks, teapots, and things to organise the kitchen just so. Some cool bar stuff in there though, bottle openers, cocktail gear and some nice glasses to sup that cold lager or wine on.... Anyway, I'm off for some counselling now - if you need kitchen stuff - go have a browse but try and not get excited.

Also useful for picking up the basics, prices are reasonable. They also run free children's cake decorating events. Only spoilt by calling itself cooking "solutions", which for those of you in the know is an ongoing joke in Private Eye magazine.

They are simply at hand if you need them. I was really pissed off to find that they had a pan steamer which was the exact product I bought just days ago in Islington for only 4.50. In fact the bigger one was still cheaper at 5.50 than the 5.99 I paid for the small one in Islington. What a bummer. They have a huge selection of chopping boards as well ranging from small to extra large and everything in between. Also they have a full range of pots and pans, kitchen knives and crockery. This store is great and the prices are obviously very competitive as I found out the hard way.

It's self contained with a good selection of trendy and useful design pieces of kitchenware for the modern kitchen. Novelty chopping boards and cupcake cases galore. I think that a shop like this managing to survive is testament to its success. Ealing Broadway shopping centre is just around the corner with quite a bit of competition from the big boys who also market home wear. While even though even a shop as beautiful and as tempting as this can not make a house-wife out of me yet, it's a great little find for those budding chefs out there. Shop local! They do sell lots of lovely house hold bits and bobs but until I have a house, Labrador and a child called Mimi Fifi Orchid Clooney (a girl can dream) I wont be buying anything from here. It's a personal thing, possibly connected to being a huge consumerist ass hole whilst having a huge problem with consumerism. For me, buying a £300 pair of shoes is wrong but necessary, where as buying two plain white enamel breakfast bowls for £16 seems ridiculous. I am aware that this statement is ridiculous in itself, in fact, I just don't want to talk about it anymore. I will say though, that this shop is lovely, but I prefer Ikea.

You can be assured the new shop in Redchurch Street sells the same functional products for the kitchen, home and garden as the existing shop on Cheshire St, however I believe L&W are moving from Cheshire St to Redchurch St in the not-too-distant future. For too long, consumers have been lulled into a false sense of security with large, "convenient" hardware stores such as Homebase and B&Q etc. who unfortunately have, over the years got away with cheap replicas of good quality homeware goods. L&W moves away from this methodolgy and focuses fully on sustainable goods made in enamel, stainless steel and wood, rather than plastic and throw-away alternatives. The shop is minimalist in style, but all the products are displayed in a creative and alternative way, which I'd liken a little to the layout of Muji stores. As most shoppers today, I am mindful of what I buy having an effect on our environment and planet, but love L&W's ethos. I especially love the enamel kitchen sets, glass jugs, butter dishes and stainless steel buckets and watering cans. True classics! Now, don't get me wrong, you can't get anywhere near the vast selection (though often poor and low quality) of hardware and homeware products from L&W that you get in chain hardware stores, but what you do get (as the blackboard outside the shop and web home page state!) is "high quality, traditional goods for the home", with the added bonus of browsing a low-tech shop and experiencing a low stress retail experience. Now that has to be worth a trip to Shoreditch any day of the week!

The real drawback is having to sift through containers of stuff to find exactly what you're looking for. Organized, it aint. That said, I enjoy their selection of serving ware from bowls and platters to demi spoons and cake plates. If you can't find the correct number of something, just ask. They seemingly have a lot of extra inventory in the back. It can seem like an odd collection; but if they have what I need, it makes me so very happy.

Everything is a bit stacked up on top of each other, so its really hard to find something specific you might be looking for, and the staff don't seem to know where to find anything either!!! Its a good place to browse, particularly for a nice looking and useful present. There is some lovely Scandinavian designer cookware, that is aesthetically pleasing and totally out of my budget. My dream kitchen would be stocked full of cookware from here, till then, there are the really salad bowls!

I was recently in the market for a new frying pan and this branch of Lakeland had the cheapest price for the frying pan I was after, nearly half the price Debenhams up the road were charging, even in their 'sale' :) This week I discovered it has an upstairs, and there's even more stuff up there than downstairs! One day this store may be responsible for bankrupting me!

However, on closer inspection, the goods aren't particularly cheap except for certain items. Sis and I picked up a pack of 10 teaspoons for £2 but I wasn't tempted by any more gadgets due to price I wonder if this place is a sign of more similar shops due to the recession or whether this will be a seasonal wonder
