    Hole in dogs lip
    Samantha S.

I'm really sad to have to make this review, but after contemplating on the appropriate actions to take I feel it's important. On May 24th 2024 I took my dog (who had been going to daycare with scooby shack for a couple weeks by this point) in for a full day of daycare. When I showed up around 5 pm to pick him up, they released him to me, insisted he had a great day with no issues, and sent me on my way. I loaded my pup into the car and instantly seen that he was bleeding from his lip, enough that it was about to drip onto my car. Looking closer, I seen that he had a HOLE in his lip that almost went through the entire lip. I suspect it is from being bitten by another dog by the shape and size of the hole. I went inside to ask what happened, and two employees standing at the front said that they had no idea what happened. One of the women then stated " oh I thought the blood on him was from me, I got a bloody nose" which instantly raised some red flags. First, if you thought your nose blood was dripping on someone's dog, wouldn't you clean it off? Second, this told me that she saw the blood on him and was trying to make an excuse for how it got there. Next, both of the women speak up and say "oh, it had JUST happened". So now they are saying something happened, but they have no idea what still?! I KNOW my puppy cried when he got bit and I know that there was most likely a scuffle over it. But they claim that there was no conflicts or sounds from the dogs. And this wasn't the first time my dog had come home from here with mystery cuts on his body. I took him to the vet where we also discovered he had a puncture wound on his shoulder that had started the beginning stages of forming a seroma. I get that dogs are dogs and sending them to daycare comes with some risks, totally normal for them to have some scratches and cuts. But I also expect for the workers to have an eye on them at ALL times, to report honestly to the owners when something happens, and not try to cover up when there was a conflict in order to keep the money flowing from my wallet. I won't be returning to Scooby Shack because of the dishonesty from these employees. They also had a kennel cough outbreak at the beginning of July 2024.

Absolutely butchered my golden doodle. I have no words. I feel like they let someone train on him then charged us 215 dollars plus tip before we saw him. OVER 250 DOLLARS FOR THIS!!! There are spots shaved down to the skin and spots where there are still tufts of hair. We have been taking him every 4 weeks to a groomer in Milwaukie who is amazing but we needed somewhere close by this time. NEVER. AGAIN.

If you want a respectful, fulfilling experience DO NOT take your dog to the groomer at Scooby Shack. Not only was the groomer rude, berating my mother for not brushing our miniature Aussiepoo enough (he's brushed almost every day), but she thinks it's okay to shave our little guy completely. We made the mistake of going back a second time and she shaved his entire body, cut his whiskers and left his ears and tail completely untouched. This is a picture before and after his first two haircuts. I don't know how someone who works with animals can be so careless and inconsiderate.

I only found out the next morning when I reviewed our front door camera footage and realized our dog had been alone since 7pm the night before. I had to leave a note in the app before anyone reached out to us. When the owner finally called to apologize, I asked why we weren't contacted as soon as the issue came up. His response was, "we're not open during those hours." I'm still not sure what that means for a pet care company. If you're taking responsibility for someone's pet overnight, there is no "closed." To his credit, the owner stepped in personally to cover the rest of the wknd, but by that point the damage was done. Our dog had been alone for over 12 hours. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if we didn't have exterior cameras or happen to check them that morning. We got lucky, and we shouldn't have had to be. The whole situation was incredibly stressful and affected our entire trip. The owner comped the one night, but charged full price for the rest of the wknd. Honestly, given everything that happened, I would have expected the whole stay to be taken care of. If you need a sitter you can count on, especially for overnight stays, I'd look elsewhere. Peace of mind is the whole point, and we didn't have it.

We After some online research, we found Unleashed Dog Boarding. Our beloved pug was cared for and safe in a nice home that was set up for dogs. After a successful meet and greet and then practice overnight, he was given the green light. During the trip, we were able to see photos of him daily posted online, which was fun to see what he was up to. Upon pick up, I could see he didn't lose weight, and came back well adjusted, healthy, and happy! I know Unleashed Dog Boarding gave him attention every day too. Unleashed Dog Boarding was professional and very knowledgeable in the care of dogs. I would definitely use them again. The owner is a true dog lover!

This is such a lovely idea, hosting a few dogs in your home. Our experience with this business was…read moreless than ideal, though. The owner asked us to bring our dog (a 12 year old male miniature schnauzer) over to meet her dogs, because she needs to know our dog will get along with her dogs. So far, so good. Our dog, while far from perfect, loves other dogs. He loves other dogs so much that at TWO of his past doggie daycares, they used him as the test dog to see if other dogs would fit in. He has gone all the way up through advanced obedience classes, has learned circus tricks, and has competed in agility. He even used to work as a therapy dog, visiting long term care homes. He has never been aggressive towards anyone, much less another dog. He is more likely to play himself to death with them. After he met the owner's dogs (which my husband thought had gone just fine), she let me know she was uncertain if he and her older male lab got along. She wanted our dog to stay for a night at her house while we were still in town to find out if they were compatible. This seemed like a lot of effort, but, okay, I can understand being cautious. We took him to her place (at the cost of $50) and left him there for a night. The next day, my husband picked him up and she did not say a word to him about what had gone on. We assumed that meant we were good to go. We had already made reservations with her for our upcoming vacation, WELL in advance of the time we would be out of town. With less than a week before we were due to leave town, the owner contacted me to let me know that she had another male dog staying with her and she would need us to bring our dog back to her house again to see if our dog got along with this other dog. Seriously? What was she going to do if they did not get along? It seemed glaringly unprofessional to tell someone with less than a week notice that you are not sure if our dog (a much beloved family member) would be acceptable to stay with her when the rest of the family is about to leave on vacation. Talk about stress inducing. The owner's continued suspicion that our dog will be aggressive towards other dogs was unfounded and, frankly, offensive. We have found other, better options for boarding our little guy. I guess if you have a female dog or a young pup, this might be a good choice for you. The yard she has for dogs to run in is wonderful, and they have lovely little beds to sleep in all around the house. If you have a male dog, especially an older male dog, be forewarned you might want to look elsewhere.
