the scooby shack in lake oswego is stellar!! i have used their daycare and boarding facility for the last 3 years and have never had anything that caused me to be concerned about my two dogs' care. i can't even count the number of times the staff has been a+ in accommodating my needs when it comes to leaving my two dogs with them. i have been a tough client to deal with in terms of accomdating my schedule. i run a business that doesn't always allow me the luxury of picking those two pups up at "end-of'-day". everyone has been so helpful every single time!!! my two pups always get excited when i tell them we are going to scooby do, ( i know it is shack but can't help but say "do") they stay many nights with last minute call to scooby shack and have never had any issue where they don't accomodate me. thank you scooby shack!!! you all are a+. read more

I was truly disappointed with the inexperience and ineptitude of the front receptionist who doubled as phone agent and dog watcher. He really didn't seem engaged whatsoever in his position and couldn't answer basic inquiries. The small dog room was equally disappointing in that there were 3 visible puddles of urine left unattended, and the dogs were apparently left on their own, excepting for occasional check-ins (supposedly every 15 minutes or so) by that same front desk employee. When asked if the dogs got to go outside, he said "not really", so it appears they are stuck in a small room with little stimulation or oversight for hours on end. We won't be using Scooby Shack for either doggie daycare or boarding as originally anticipated. read more

Nice people but both of my dogs came home hurt and they have only been there twice. First time, one came home limping and had a limp for a week. I was hesitant to go back but chalked it up to him possibly jumping off something and straining his leg. I had to find somewhere to board for one night for a wedding, so I took them back two weeks later and my other dog came home and can barely walk or get up from a sitting position. I'm really sad to have to make this review, but after contemplating on the appropriate actions to take I feel it's important. On May 24th 2024 I took my dog (who had been going to daycare with scooby shack for a couple weeks by this point) in for a full day of daycare. When I showed up around 5 pm to pick him up, they released him to me, insisted he had a great day with no issues, and sent me on my way. I loaded my pup into the car and instantly seen that he was bleeding from his lip, enough that it was about to drip onto my car. Looking closer, I seen that he had a HOLE in his lip that almost went through the entire lip. I suspect it is from being bitten by another dog by the shape and size of the hole. I went inside to ask what happened, and two employees standing at the front said that they had no idea what happened. One of the women then stated " oh I thought the blood on him was from me, I got a bloody nose" which instantly raised some red flags. First, if you thought your nose blood was dripping on someone's dog, wouldn't you clean it off? Second, this told me that she saw the blood on him and was trying to make an excuse for how it got there. Next, both of the women speak up and say "oh, it had JUST happened". So now they are saying something happened, but they have no idea what still?! I KNOW my puppy cried when he got bit and I know that there was most likely a scuffle over it. But they claim that there was no conflicts or sounds from the dogs. And this wasn't the first time my dog had come home from here with mystery cuts on his body. I took him to the vet where we also discovered he had a puncture wound on his shoulder that had started the beginning stages of forming a seroma. I get that dogs are dogs and sending them to daycare comes with some risks, totally normal for them to have some scratches and cuts. But I also expect for the workers to have an eye on them at ALL times, to report honestly to the owners when something happens, and not try to cover up when there was a conflict in order to keep the money flowing from my wallet. I won't be returning to Scooby Shack because of the dishonesty from these employees. They also had a kennel cough outbreak at the beginning of July 2024. read more

Absolutely butchered my golden doodle. I have no words. I feel like they let someone train on him then charged us 215 dollars plus tip before we saw him. OVER 250 DOLLARS FOR THIS!!! There are spots shaved down to the skin and spots where there are still tufts of hair. We have been taking him every 4 weeks to a groomer in Milwaukie who is amazing but we needed somewhere close by this time. NEVER. AGAIN. read more

If you want a respectful, fulfilling experience DO NOT take your dog to the groomer at Scooby Shack. Not only was the groomer rude, berating my mother for not brushing our miniature Aussiepoo enough (he's brushed almost every day), but she thinks it's okay to shave our little guy completely. We made the mistake of going back a second time and she shaved his entire body, cut his whiskers and left his ears and tail completely untouched. Decent job of grooming our Golden/Cocker. He looks great and we usually get a pretty good (not great) job from there. The very kindly receptionist proceeded to announce that I owed them $165. This was at least DOUBLE what we usually have paid and it also sounds like a HUGE overcharge. Someone is being very unrealistic. We can't pay that much. The management lady who took over for the receptionist said she had spent a long time blow-drying my dog, as if that would justify the price increase (DOUBLE!). She also claimed we should have been notified of their price increase (within the last month). She said the prices were listed at their desk. Hah! I'm not at their desk, I'm calling from home. ---- Be warned. We needed service but not at these rates. Fortunately, my reaction persuaded her to honor our usual price. (last time was $85, we think). I gave a sizeable tip but I didn't pay $165. Good grief! read more

I've taken our dog to scooby shack for years for boarding and grooming but my recent experience will keep me from ever going back. It's too bad because we trusted them for so long. Apparently there are new owners and groomers. The haircut given to our dog looked like it was done as fast as they could. Completely uneven all over with tufts of hair much longer than the rest over her whole body. Most of the hair was cut so super short, she looked shaved right to her skin. Worse is that they cut the tips of both ears and they were still bleeding even the next day. What really broke my heart was how our dog acted. It was like she was abused. I've never seen her so desperate to leave a place and she was inconsolable for that night and the next day. I think they were very rough with her and possibly abusive. To make matters worse, I went back to talk to the owner the next day and he seemed indifferent to my poor dog's experience. He wouldn't look at any pictures saying 'you can't tell anything from photos' He did concede to give me my money back and said that the groomer would be sad to hear that I was unhappy. I never got to talk to the groomer after the haircut. If I injured a person's dog to the point where it was bleeding, I would have made a point to hand the dog over myself so I could explain what happened and apologize in person. I highly encourage anyone seeking a groomer to go somewhere else. It's one thing to give a bad haircut, completely forgivable, but unacceptable to treat a defenseless animal so cruelly. read more

The people who work there are kind but not the groomer! If I could I would give this place no stars I would. The woman who specialized in labradoodle grooming is a unkind woman. When My dog was a puppy, I took her to her and when my puppy was done the groomer told me she was a horrible dog. "She needs to more used to the hair dryer, she is so scared." Then began to tell me everything that I did wrong with my dog. I took my dog back a year later to give her another chance and the groomer shaved my dog! She grinned and handed back my dog as punishment for not going to her more often! read more

Took our Yorkie to be groomed. It was the worst quality we have every seen. One leg was shaved and the other three were not touched. The head was not done at all but they said they could not do that. He was supposed to get a bath but he did not. Would not recommend. Told us to come back in 2 hours , they were overbooked and was not done for over 4. read more

Susan did a wonderful job of grooming Cooper...we requested a "buzz" on our English Cream Retreiver and she did the best job we have ever had done on any of our retrievers. Thank you Susan. ARBITRARY PRICING/Price Gouging Clients! $70 for a 4 pound dog (from $55 to $70 since December) who was already fully shaved and just needed a face/light body trim (And they charged $90 previously for the shave)! I was told prices went up due to the increased cost of water back in December. Now I was told I was up-charged possibly because my dog was "wiggly" on the table - When I put my foot down to this reason, the new explanation was changed to "well we charge more if the dog is matted" - My dog is SHAVED already! Zero matting! Then I was told, "well they didn't have a clipper small enough so they had to use sizzors and that's costs more". Umm, a professional dog groomer is supposed to have tools for their trade: Thats like me working in construction, not having a hammer, and then up charging the person that hired me because I didn't have the equipment needed for my job. This is just plain greed (& when caught, a lot of excuses)! I called my old groomer back in Los Angeles and she literally choked on her water when I told her what they were now charging. They charge $70 for Husky's!! Fur vs. Hair! Scooby Shack, after a lot of back and forth, finally offered a $35 refund - but if I took it, I would need to find another groomer. They would rather lose the continuing business of a client with THREE dogs than just admit they are money grabbing after a pandemic. I'm just so over the blatant bad business practices going on everywhere. This is literally my 2nd or 3rd post ever - but felt the public should know. I gave the new owners a chance, but I'm sadly sorry I did. Consumer beware. read more

I love the Scooby Shack. Boscoe loves the Scooby Shack. This has become my first choice for doggy daycare, as it is located across the street from my employer. It is so unbelievably easy to drop and pick him up. I truly love the staff here. They are fantastic. The facility is very nice, and my dog is well taken care of, for boarding and day care. They also offer pet training, grooming, and Invisible Fence. The prices are very reasonable. I now have several of my co-workers taking their pets here. We now ask each other when the other one is bringing their dog to the Scooby Shack. Its great. You must check this place out if you get the opportunity. Its truly a well run facility and I can relax every time I leave my "baby" here. I know he is in good hands and getting lots of love. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Scooby Shack. The employees there truly love dogs and they are very friendly and knowledgeable. My pup is always very excited when we walk in the door and always so tired at the end of the day. I don't trust any other daycare. I have a small 13 lb dog and I love that they separate the big from small for a few hours of the day so they can play. The prices are reasonable and the facility is very clean. They make drop off so easy, you walk in, they know your dog instantly by name and you're out the door in less than 1 minute. I hope they get a doggy cam soon :) read more

I gave Scooby Shack 5 chances, and after one or two, you'd think I would have learned. The staff, don't get me wrong, is friendly and understanding. However my dog got kennel cough twice, both within 5 days after going to Scooby Shack (which was the only place he interacted with dogs during this timeframe), and I was told by the owner that he definitely didn't get it from them. So I paid two vet bills, then wanted to cancel the rest of his visits and she agreed to refund the cost of the remaining days to my credit card. Two months and several calls later, the owner was always out of the office or too busy. The one time I did get ahold of her, she promised to call me back in 10 minutes, and I never heard back and still no refund. Another month later, I called again, and AGAIN I was promised that I would receive my refund. Not a chance, because the owner was in the middle of moving residences and it wasn't a convenient time. Seriously?? Sick of trying, I have finally given up. Sad, miserable dog with kennel cough & two vet bills + Scooby Shack's unsanitary conditions & flaky ownership = highly HIGHLY UN-RECOMMENDED. read more

Honestly, I would give the Scooby Shack 5 stars if Danny was still there. He has the customer service skills to make customers(humans and canines alike:) feel welcome, and it seems to come naturally to him. To be clear, our dog has always been well cared for by the staff at the Shack, but it's not going to be the same place without Daniel. I went in here as a walk-in, the woman who groomed my dog made me suspicious that she didn't wash my dog because my dog still smelled after I picked her up 15 minutes later( yes, 15 minutes later) I barely left the parking lot and she called me saying my dog was ready to be picked up. Once I got in, she told me that she didn't get a chance to clip my dogs nails but she would try to the next time I came in. Save your money, go to petco grooming services! I can't believe this company lied to me like that, so unprofessional, if they didn't have the time for a walk-in then they should've said so rather than take my money without providing a service. read more

WARNING: "Do not use the trainer there, and do not board there. Two years ago we went on vacation and boarded our 10 month old puppy there for a week. When we came back, we were told that they were overcrowded so the trainer there had taken our dog to her house. Without our permission. This trainer uses shock collars to discipline dogs. Our dog was never the same. When we picked him up, he was aggressive, even towards us. We wrote a letter to the owner telling him about our dog and he never had the decency to respond. Of course, they can't admit that shock collars will screw up your dog because they sell invisible fencing, which shocks your dog. After two years of working with behaviorists and several trainers, we have to put our beloved dog down due to his aggression. If you love your dog, go elsewhere for training or boarding. No matter what they may tell you, shock collars will ruin your dog. read more

HORRIBLE GROOMING EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!! I took my four month old Whoodle (Wheaton Terrier/Poodle) to The Scooby Shack for her first grooming appointment two days ago. I have never had a dog that needed grooming before, so I went in before I made the appointment to ask about it. The lady who made my appointment assured me that I would be allowed to sit in the room during the grooming, and that the groomer would explain everything to me. She said "Marianne" had 30+ years of experience and would be happy to help us with our first grooming experience. When I arrived for the grooming, Marianne said she was going to get coffee & that I could come pick up my dog in a couple hours. I told her that when I made the appointment I was told I could sit and watch and that she would go through things with me. She was obviously irritated with this, but obliged me. My dog is four months old and all puppy!! She is teething big time and likes to play. Needless to say, sitting on a grooming table with scissors coming at her was not her idea of fun. She tried to make a game out of it, and kept trying to grab the scissors or Marianne's hand or anything that came close to her. Marianne told me that this was very bad behavior and I needed to be training my dog better. Then she would take my dog's cheeks in her hands and squeeze them while looking her straight in the eye and in an abrasive tone bark "bad dog!' to her. This went on for two hours before she was finally done! All she did was trim her face and feet and clean her ears. Besides being mean to my dog and demeaning to me, she took way too much hair off my dog and she looks horrible!! Today I called the owner, Tracy, to talk to her about my experience. Tracy said that I should never have been allowed in the grooming room with my dog in the first place. She apologized that they let me in there. She told me it is like leaving your kid at kindergarten and parents should not be allowed to stay. I told her that if Marianne was treating my dog so badly while I was sitting there, I wonder what she does when owners are not there! She said she would not even justify that with a comment, and she is sure that everyone in her establishment loves dogs and treats them well. She told me that if my dog continued her behavior, that her groomers would have ended up with stitches!! This is absolutely absurd! I have two small children at home and we have had no problems with the dog hurting myself, my husband or my children. She is not an aggressive dog whatsoever!! She is a four month old teething puppy!! Any groomer that is worth their salt would know how to deal with a puppy! They are all "mouthy"!! And demeaning a dog and their owner is no way to get repeat business!! And, I do have children in school and I am able to walk into their classrooms at any time and see how they are being treated. If you do not allow your customers to see how you are treating their animals, there is obviously a problem that they are trying to hide! Yesterday I took my dog to "All Paws" in Hillsdale to talk to them about what happened. Julie sat on the floor with my dog and played with my dog and got along very well with her. She was horrified at the cut my dog had received and how my dog and myself were treated at The Scooby Shack. I will be taking my business to "All Paws" from now on. Julie someone who honestly loves dogs, takes the time to work with them. She obviously knows how to treat not only the dog but the people as well. I really hope that you do not take your dog to see Marianne at The Scooby Shack. It was one of the worst decisions I have ever made!! I hope my dog does not remember this incident. read more

Sounds cheesy but truly a place where they want the best for all dogs is rare... my dog a lab-Dane, 1 year old has been going there for a while. That being said, Mylo my dog had to take a break prior to being neutered, the crew had mentioned how they wanted to make sure it was the beat place for my dog but also the others, so for a few months we took a break! I respect them so much for advocating for all dogs and not just thinking of the potential dollar loss for asking me to take a break, only true dog lovers would do that! Scooby Shack is the best doggie daycare you could ask for. They love their dogs and there is always a "human" with the dogs in the rooms to make sure that the dogs keep playing and to hastily clean up accidents. I've take my 1 yr old hyper pup to several other day-care facilities in Portland and I've seen my pup get strangled by her collar, and been told "we don't have a record of her here", among other problems. Scooby Shack does their best to remember every dog and their parents and are always willing to chat about how playful my dog was that day. Great facility. Great owners. Good people. I love the Scooby Shack! My dog Milo has been going there since he was little and he loves it. Its clean and everyone there is so friendly and you can tell they truly love dogs. The owners are helpful and friendly everytime we go in. Milo is a much better dog because of the socialization he gets there. He goes to daycare and we also use it when we go out of town. Why I LOVE the Scooby Shack? The first time I walked in you could smell it was clean. They had rubberized flooring on the inside. Cots and couches for the dogs. Outside they had large toys and things to explore along with artificial grass. In the summer they put out small wading pools for the dogs to play in. One staff member sometimes brings his guitar to play for the dogs and they love it:) One winter morning one of the female staff had given up her sweatshirt for a Dane whose owner had forgotten her coat. They lack an undercoat so can get cold easily. Virtually everyone there knows the dogs by name and greet them as they arrive. You can view many pictures of the dogs playing on-line. They play well together because they temperament test the dogs. I can see my moose playing with other Danes but also see her being looked up to by smaller dogs like a boxer:) It is a safe and happy environment. She stands up in the backseat blocks before we arrive knowing where we are going:) They are very particular that all vaccines are current. It doesn't matter who you are or how long you have gone there. They want the paperwork from the Vet! The owners? I know them after 3 plus years of taking my Dane there. They are kind and caring of all the dogs. I will tell one story that is out of the norm. I needed to take my Dane for follow up x rays as we feared bone cancer and not just her arthritis. At 185 lbs she is just too big to get up on a table even with anesthesia. I convinced an equestrian vet to do standing x rays. But they asked if I could bring someone with me for fear she might over react to the horses. I am retired and live alone so wondered who I could ask. I called Scooby Shack and asked Phil, one of the owners, if I could impose and have him come with me? He was the one person I trusted. He said sure. It went well and they said she was a perfect lady and welcome back anytime. But I have no idea how many doggie daycare owners would so go out of their way for one of their dogs! I've been using this place to board my dog for two years now. At first I was hesitant because I had tried other daycares and I could tell my dog just wasn't happy. I gave these guys a chance, after talking with one of my neighbors who uses the grooming and boarding, and my dog has done a 180. He is always excited to come here in the mornings and the staff is always excited to see us. Its is a little far from my house but the trip is worth it since I can't always take my dog with me when I'm flying. The owners have always been pretty chill and welcoming. The only thing is that you have you call in advance for boarding during the holidays because they fill up fast. read more

I live about 25 mins (without traffic!) from Scooby, yet I make the trip with my two goldens, Monty and Toby, without hesitation - once a week if possible for romping. I have also boarded them here on several occasions. I love this place and everyone associated with it. I would give them more stars if I could! I LOVE them but more importantly my little Maltest/Bichon named Mason loves them. This is the first time he's been to a doggy day care that wasn't in someone's home. Mason was so nervous the first 2 1/2 weeks he wouldn't even get out of the car. I would carry him to the front door and then Phil would carry him in. Mason also had a little seizure in his first week which they expertly cared for him. I love the Scooby Shack! I was a bit hesitant trying out this place from their reviews. Their front desk Manager Daniel was great. He informed that they no longer have a trainer and was able to address all of my concerns. They are picky for the evaluations but I appreciate the time and effort they take with each one making sure it's a good fit for your dog and everyone there. I have started taking my dachshund puppy Pippin there a couple times a week. She is always on the small dog side where she is supposed to be. I have popped in multiple times and there is always a staff member interacting with the pups and not to mention they have couches and a tv on the small dog and outdoor potty options for the dog if you need. Every time I pick her up they are able to give me an update on what she did that and how she was. She always comes home with the perfect amount of tired and most of all happy. I'm so happy we found the Scooby Shack! It's a perfect fit! I would recommend to anyone looking for a clean and fun doggy daycare they can trust. read more
