This has to be one of the more "wow" experiences I've had in a while. I've lived in the area, less than 1/4 mile as the crow flies, from this place for most of my life. Yet I've never been in the storefront. I've had their stuff from other stores, and knew about them, but for some odd reason never branched out until now and it was very pleasant. I was greeted at the door with a smile, when I said what I wanted, the owner immediately came out and started helping me load up my basket with the package I had requested. When something was out she would sub it with something better. By the time I left, I had a pretty decent haul for a very reasonable price! I've only tried a few things so far from this visit, being the Canadian bacon (weird I never knew how much I liked this until now) and the teriyaki meat sticks. But they have been very good. I have been here many times, but was introduced to the product many years ago because a wonderful friend provided us the gift of Maurice Bonneau. First - the product is SOLID=consistent and HIGH quality. The flavors and variety of different types sausage and ham and pies....and more and more. Our favorites: Breakfast sausage, Any type of Kielbasa, Chorizo, the BEEF JERKY, the meat pie-Tourtiere, Irish breakfast sausage and Haribo gummy bears :) The also sell gourmet, mustards and crisps. :) Lovely. Looking for an adventure during this Stay at Hime order and decided to take a ride up to Lisbon for a visit to the famous sausage kitchen! The drive will take you to Freeport and through Durham to get there. Pretty drive with a farm or two in passing. I called before driving up to see if they were open to the public as well as any other Co-vid19 requirements. They are open and no further requirements to enter the store. Parking was great, all spaces out front were available so front door parking it is! No one was there but myself and Andre the owner. Which I was thankful for because there was so much to pick from! Two types of sausages are available regular and smoked with a variety of flavors to choose from. I stayed away from the spicy ones and came away with a few new things to try like Hungarian Kolbasz which has a beef base with little pork in it. They carry spices, condiments, and jerky both in a snacking stick as well as slices. The had pork pies in two sizes, but I was not interested in but you might. Andre has been the owner for the last 11 years and is getting ready to retire, sadly since this place is wonderful. They will continue to make products through May and only producing their moat popular items through June and in July they will close permanently once all product is sold out. So, if you haven't gone, now would be the time. I plan on going back before they close to stock up on some wonderful sausages! read more

With apologies to my vegetarian friends, this place is like Disneyland for me. I have been coming here for years and ALWAYS leave with twice as much as I intended to purchase. There are just so many tasty things here I struggle to control myself. Seriously, if you are a fan of sausage, smoked bacon, pork pies, cretons or jerky, then you need to get here ASAP!! The store is family owned and it is obvious that they pride themselves on providing a quality product. The owners could not be anymore pleasant and helpful. Often when I spend a lot of money here they will throw an extra goodie in the bag "on the house". There is nothing I admire more than people who take their craft seriously.... and I go out of my way to support them. This place is as good as it gets! Two tips though: 1. The owners are French Canadian and therefore their sausage making talent is definitely focused on that style of sausage. They make Italian, Mexican and other types of sausage that are not quite as successful. It is not a criticism of them however....I would never go to Mexico and expect to get good pork cretons. 2. The owners are French Canadian and therefore when the label says "hot" or "spicy", it isn't. Mainer's and French Canadians have no idea what "hot" is. That being said, if you stick to the European style products, you won't be disappointed! read more

If you like beef jerky or meat sticks then just those alone are worth the stop. It's so much better than what you get at a gas station and they have numerous flavors. They have a variety of meats and cheeses and mustards and sauces and everything else you'd expect from a place called "Sausage Kitchen" .. if you've never had cretons then I suggest you buy some and take it home to enjoy on some saltines or an English muffin.. yum! read more

My best friend from college lives in Lisbon, which is how I discovered Maurice Bonneau's Sausage Kitchen. It is an understatement to say that nothing I have tried there has disappointed me. Their uncooked sausage is lean, with just enough fat to be tasty. I bought some that I intended to serve for breakfast on Black Friday. It's not a morning for health food, so I fried the sausage, intending to cook eggs in the grease, and there was just barely enough; but the sausages were incredibly tasty, both the British style bangers and the Maine Breakfast Sausage with cranberries and blueberries. Their smoked sausage is tasty, I believe; every time I go there I buy some to put out with cheese and crackers and every time I've done that it's been devoured by my friends or family before I get more than a taste. The few tastes I have had have been quite good, though. Their jerky is delicious too, and it manages to hit the sweet spot of being dried enough to be preserved while not being so dry that it's sawdust. The regular flavor is slightly hot, with enough red pepper to give it a bit of zing but not enough to be fiery; their hotter varieties add more heat and more flavor, but even their hottest variety is a pleasant flavorful fire. This is definitely Franco-American hot rather than Mexican hot or Thai hot, but that's not really a criticism, just a calibration. And the best part, and the reason I have to travel there: the cretons, which they don't ship. This is a taste of my childhood: growing up, when someone would slaughter a pig, you'd smoke some parts of it for ham, make bacon from others, make pork shoulder roasts, and then you'd grind up the rest, spice it, and make cretons. Maurice Bonneau goes one better and uses only pork shoulder, but the spirit and flavor are the same. This stuff is so good that I have to stop myself from eating it right out of the container with a spoon. read more

Fantastic! My fiance saw the commercial when we first came to Maine and demanded we go immediately. Unfortunately, this was at 11 o'clock at night so we had to wait until the next morning. Despite the drive from Augusta it was totally worth it. We got the bratwurst, chorizo and andouille (yeah, I don't know how to spell that properly). As a girl from Wisconsin, I felt like a total traitor for loving the bratwurst more than anything I got at home. The andouille was good and makes a great addition to any dish. The chorizo, I can't say enough. Its delicious, I had to stop myself from just eating it straight out of the package. A nice mix of spice and makes its the perfect thing to throw in some eggs or even just on the grill with some onions and peppers. The prices are a little higher than you will find at the grocery but for the quality, taste and polite family staff its totally worth it. read more

Maurice and his family (yes, a real family business) make wonderful, lower fat sausages with lots of flavor. There are fresh and smoked sausages and they are perfect for grilling or inside cooking. The breakfast sausages are the only ones that you can eat and not feel guilty. The mail order is a great addition. The smoked sausages, bologna and hams are ready to eat, in case you can't resist eating them until you get home. read more

I've ordered from Andre a few times over the past year. Pricing was always by the pound. He had a policy of giving a Baker's Dozen for his products, to ensure you got at least the poundage you'd paid for. My last order (almost $150) was missing approximately half the products I'd paid for. When I contacted Andre, I was first given a lame excuse that even he didn't believe as he was saying it. After a brief argument, he agreed to make good on my order, & ship the estimated $75 worth of product that he still owes me. A few days later, I received an e-mail from him stating he only owes me $2.50, & that we were now even... He has since subtly changed his site to try & cover his deception. My credit card company saw right through it, & refunded my money. Andre, you are a liar & a thief, sir. I will never do business w/you, again. read more

The sausage is the best but don't order online. We patronized the store regularly when we lived in Maine but have since moved to Florida. Shipping costs are high but the product is worth it if it got here. We order on November 27th and here it is December 6th and we still have not received our order. Supposedly it got lost in the USPS system somewhere. Fresh meat was ordered and if it ever gets here, it will be pretty green. Post Office probably won't deliver because of the smell. Apparently we have no recourse and are out $125 or so. Sorry Bonneau but we wish we could say something positive. Happy Holidays read more
