There's a great selection of tasty burgers on the menu, and they have a large selection of ales that are constantly changing. There's a lot of space, and when the weather is nice, a reasonable amount of space outside. There are also a stack of board games, but not all the pieces are always there, so it can making playing them a bit difficult. It's just one of those old style English pubs that is enjoyable to hang out with for the day and drink some ales. I can highly recommend them!

The left hand bar is for regulars - I liked it as I used to work in there, and was also a regular - some people thought it was quite unfriendly if you weren't known. The right hand side was known as the other bar. Don't let this put you off - it's only banter! Beer is fullers plus loads of guest beers, regularly rotated. Like many Americans, I love my Coke and I will drink it until I burst. I have become used to getting just one can or bottle here in the UK instead of constant refills throughout my entire visit. I felt like I was back in America! (I do realise that no refills are much healthier than drinking gallons of Coke in one sitting, but it's nice every once in awhile!) Aside from the refills, the food is awesome. My personal favourite is their eggs benedict (vegetarian of course), yet everything I've tried there is great. They also have a fun drink menu, including ice cream drinks which I'm always a sucker for. A good selection of larger and wines also on offer. The food here is wonderful, all made and cooked on site by their resident chiefs and all produce is sourced locally. The prices are very reasonably and on a Wednesday and Saturday they have a selection of home made pies priced at £5.75 which and are brimming with fillings, it also comes with a potato side of your choice and fresh veg, I normally struggle to finish it. The puddings are something to die for, highly recommend the cheesecake. As for the staff, I have not found another pub that has staff this accommodating and friendly, nothing is to much trouble for them, if something you want is not on the menu, they will try to accommodate your needs. The pub is an old coaching house it has a large bar area split by a fantastic open fire that is lit during the colder periods giving it that real country pub atmosphere. It has some big round tables in this area that can seat 6-8 people, ideal for having a chat and a drink with friends, it also has some soft sofas for lounging around on. They have a defined restaurant area, which is set to the side and tastefully decorated. I believe they also do B&B so an ideal location to stay if you like your country walks. Burgers are such a great way to have a nice lunch, and The Woolpack supplies a decent selection of burgers. Both times I've gone, I've had the special burger. First was a Cinco De Mayo burger that had salsa, tortilla chips and jalapenos. It was really tasty, but could have been a bit spicier (in fairness, everything could be a bit spicier for me). The second time we went, I had the brie, pear and bacon burger. Also really nice, but I remember it being nicer the previous time. Maybe it's because that time we got to dine out on the patio on a nice warm day and this time it was inside and rainy. The burgers are quite well done, but I think that's more of an issue with it being in a pub (apparently there's a crazy law that burgers in pubs have to be cooked to at least medium well, although I hear that law may be changing). The beer selection is basically McMullen's. Because you're in Hertford, and that's all anyone seems to have. So they don't usually have anything super interesting on draught.
