    Fish and chips

Waited about 30 mins for a table and then food came within 45 ish minutes but that was fine because we were warned that's how long it would take which we appreciated. Server was nice. We sat on the patio at some cheap plastic tables but I didn't mind that either. We got the mussels as an appetizer and that was the star of the show. They were in this delicious cream sauce and so after you eat them you dip the toasted ciabatta in it, and it was SO delicious. I got the fish and chips as my main and I was very disappointed. The fish was bland and the fries are the same fries you buy in the frozen section at Costco. I know because I make these fries all of the time. I don't recommend the fish and chips. I felt like crap after. And just lacking or flavour. My bf got mary's fish sandwich and he said it was way too much bread and he didn't care for it either. Our friend got the fried clams with the Costco fries and he liked the clams but was also upset about the fries. We all agreed that next time we go we will just go for the mussels and drinks.

i really liked this place - fresh seafood, good views and good service. first time having lobster and i was impressed - as a city girl from the GTA this place was cozy and nice. the server was very patient and came by just enough to keep us happy. downside is they don't have coffee or any hot drinks but you wouldn't really expect it from the type of establishment it is. i'd comeback if i were ever in this city again!

A quaint lobster shack on the wharf in Shediac . We visited off season, service was attentive and adequate as the waitress was being trained . Very quiet , nice view of the water . The seafood chowder was surprisingly good and hearty . Lobster roll was ok , Rockport rolls are better . Fries were tasty . Ceaser Bloody Mary was adequate... not as good as Quebec City . A fun touristy stop on your tour of New Brunswick .

Mussels with sauce were delicious! Shirley temple (non alcoholic) was good! The restaurant has beautiful ocean view through window.

Absolutely the Worst Dining Experience - Poorly Managed and Not Worth the Wait…read more Avoid this place during and after supper time, especially on busy weekends. We arrived at Captain Dan's at 7:28 PM on a hot summer Saturday (July 12,2025) during a local festival. As expected, the place was packed -- a lineup of about 20 people just to get seated on the second floor. We asked if the beer garden served meals and were told yes, so we got a table and waited... and waited... and waited. One waitress kept walking by with drinks, bills, payment machines -- but never once stopped at our table. I tried waving my menu to catch her attention. After 30 minutes, my wife finally got up to speak to her directly, and only then did she come take our order. I asked for the seafood chowder, and my wife ordered the overpriced lobster roll with fries. We received our glass of water fairly quickly -- but that was it. Around 8:00 PM, they put up a sign saying the second floor was closed, but no one warned us about what was coming. We then waited ANOTHER full hour -- until around 9:00 PM -- when a different waiter came to inform me that they had run out of seafood chowder. He asked if I wanted to order something else, but at that point, why bother? It was already late, and I had no intention of sitting around another 30-60 minutes for greasy bar food. They completely wasted our evening. This disaster falls entirely on poor management. It was the middle of July -- a hot Saturday night during festival season -- and yet the place was drastically understaffed. For the beer garden alone, there were about 75 patrons, with only four waiters to serve drinks, take orders, deliver food, and manage the entire first floor inside as well. That's easily another 40-50 people. It was obvious the team was overwhelmed. Rather than plan ahead or manage the chaos, they kept letting people in and seating them on the second floor -- even though the staff and kitchen clearly couldn't keep up. There was no mention of wait times, no communication, and no accountability. If you can't serve your customers, you have to close areas down earlier, not after everyone is already frustrated and hungry. To top it off, the lobster roll was also wrong -- butter only, even though my wife ordered the one with mayonnaise. We've been eating here 3-4 times a season for years. The only time I'd ever consider returning is at lunchtime, when the crowd is smaller -- because it seems like they have the exact same staffing levels at noon as they do on a busy Saturday night. That's just greedy, short-sighted management. Avoid this place unless you enjoy wasting two hours for subpar food and no service.

Bad service, can't hardly get a drink. Have to wave down a waitress to get any attention. Good fish…read morebut bad chips. Staff can be either good at the upper bar or very rude and bad at the lower bar. Not worth your time. But they are one of only two restaurant/bars on the Shediac Wharf so perhaps they don't care about customer satisfaction. Spend your money at Sandbar or somewhere else.
