I came here mid-afternoon and it was already packed with only one table available. One thing I have to applaud this place for are the AMAZING restrooms. I'm pretty sure they invest all of their money in just upgrading the toilets. Full-length mirrors, cushy couches, ultra-clean - I was not expecting all of that to come from just a normal pub. Customer Service: Really good. There is a bit of a wait for the food but that's understandable given how busy the establishment gets, but just don't expect a quick meal. The servers were polite, courteous, and friendly. Food: They have special days where certain things on the menu are cheaper. For instance, on Thursdays it's Curry Club with cheap and delicious curries. They also have Steak Club and other specials as well - all affordable! I ordered the Welsh Steak & Brains Ale Meat Pie, which came with vegetables (option for mushy peas) and mashed potatoes with gravy. It was a bit disappointing because the portions were a bit smaller than I expected, but the meal was still delicious. The pastry on the pie was flaky and incredible, meat soft and tender. Unfortunately, I was still extremely hungry even after finishing that main and could have probably finished another set. They do have a small yet delicious selection of desserts as well. I had the Stick Toffee Pudding with Ice Cream (hot custard is an option). I personally recommend choosing it with Ice Cream because the warmth of the Toffee Pudding brilliantly contrasts with the cold Ice Cream. Fantastic dessert! --- I would definitely make another return trip to The John Capel Hanbury. Just keep in mind that if you go in starving, you might want to order a bit more to make up for the tiny portions.

If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend this place! ~ Atmosphere: It's a old homey pub with cushy couches and plenty of seating. However, even though the building is old, they do maintain it well. It's very clean and the outdoor area is very beautiful as well. ~ Customer Service: The only downside is that the service was quite slow, but from the looks of it there weren't many people running this place! It definitely has a more homestyle feel to it than a lot of other restaurants/pubs. You feel like you're dining at your grandma's house! The service was very friendly and welcoming and with a few drinks in between waits from the bar, the waiting time for your meal doesn't feel too bad at all. ~ Food: The highlight and why I'm giving 5 stars. Everything we had was fantastic and everyone in our group enjoyed our meals. My partner's auntie is a very picky eater and even she was happy with everything! I had the Slow-Braised Lamb Shank served with red wine and rosemary sauce, mashed potato, and veggies (broccoli and carrot). All in all a lovely meal! For £12.95 as well, I thought the price was very fair for lamb shank! The lamb was braised beautifully and the meat was extremely tender with a perfect sauce to match. --- Overall, the prices for everything was fair and extremely worth it. The portions were huge, so we all left incredibly stuffed without a huge hole left in our wallets either! All in all a great lunch out. I would recommend The Unicorn to anyone!

Solid third date kind of a spot (dark & sexy) but also a cool place to hang with friends. Cocktails were good, though we went right after the Oasis gig so they had a reduced menu for the weekend. Still everything we had ranged from solid to great. Service was friendly and helpful.

My husband took me here as part of my birthday treat a few months ago and I will be forever grateful that he did. It is really quite difficult to put in to words just how good the cocktails are. The premise of this place is that they make 'molecular cocktails' - essentially cocktails that they have scientifically concocted so that all of the ingredients complement each other molecularly. For just £50 per person, you are treated to a 7-course cocktail menu. With each delicious cocktail you are brought a unique side dish that has been chosen specifically for that drink. We were given such unusual dishes (including slices of cured meats and filled pasta!) that oddly did enhance the taste of the cocktails. As well as the delicious cocktails, what this place also has going for it is the decor. It is very sleek, elegant and gothic. The service is also incredibly good as well. I would absolutely recommend going to this cocktail bar if you can. You would be stupid not to go here. It is absolutely worth visiting. I cannot wait to return.
