I have a 12 year old Corgi. He is a grouch. For 12 years he was groomed by Petco in Nashua. One day I made an appointment and they told me he was no longer welcome that he was a behavioral problem, that was the first time in 12 years they mentioned that. I took him to PetSmart, who kindly invited me to use a groomer that medicates in the future. I give my dog a bath, he likes the water, he doesn't mind the dryer, he is grouchy about getting his nails done and only likes to be picked up a specific way (due to an injury) which I clearly explain EVERY time I drop him off. My cousin recommended Katie at the Ruff House, she knew her and told her my story. She chuckled and said that was typical of corgis and would happily take him. I took him today... this was my experience: -Got there 10 minutes late -On the way in he met a big dog that he wanted to be best friends with -Was welcomed by an incredibly warm and friendly staff -Spoke with Katie who was going to groom him and told her about his "issues" with his nails and being picked up. -Left -Got a call in under an hour (yeah you read that right) that my dog was done -Drove back -Had a warm friendly chat with the staff -Paid.... far cheaper than what I am used to paying (tip on the card was okay) -Talked with Katie... she said he was fine... she saw absolutely no reason that he would need medication to be groomed. -Took Arthur home What an unbelievable difference in my dog from what I am used to. He looks great.. smells great.. nails are done. Because they pay attention to one dog at a time he was there HOURS less than usual.. this was far less stressful for my dog. Normally he is trying to run out of the store but today I think he would have liked the daycare as well, he was in no hurry to leave at all. For the first time I feel really good about dropping my dog off for his next appointment. I love my dog and feel terrible stressing him out when he gets groomed but that is a thing of the past now. I will be back in 8 weeks for another bath!!!!! Thank you so much! read more

We love The Ruff House. The staff is very friendly and they love dogs. Our dogs can't wait to get there.

My dog goes here, seems to dig it...... His first day, he came home with a bloody paw. But I chalked it up to " RUFF housing " .... Haven't had an issue since. He's an energetic dog...so he comes home tired...which is nice....always comes home filthy, because he gets in the pool and rolls in the dirt....what can I say, it's a doggy dogs world! The Ruff House is terrific. My two dogs were here for 15 days and were exhausted when they came home. They did a terrific job on keeping my boy and girl SAFE, COMFORTABLE and busy. I never have to worry when my babies are at the Ruff House. Rates are affordable. They post pictures on Facebook so you get to see how they are doing. Very glad to have found them. Fantastic place for small dogs -- well socialization environment. The staff are attentive and supervise all day long, whether inside or out. I don't go anywhere without my dog, but I feel good about taking him here a couple of days a month for doggy day care. Wouldn't hesitate to board him if I absolutely had to (and someone stays with the dogs overnight). read more

We have been going to the Ruff House pretty much since it has opened! The staff are always friendly and our dog is very well taken care of. I love that they go outside to play and I love that they post pictures on Facebook so I can see my pup having a good time. To the person who posted about not being able to see the areas or the dogs going out for a long time, I have been to other dog places (namely one in Belmont) where the dogs are also out of sight. You see it for the tour but not after so I don't really think it's that unusual. As far as going outside, especially in high heat, they don't take them out for that long. The people are outside with them too so wouldn't they also rather be in the air conditioning? We have taken our dog for daycare, boarding, and grooming. Our dog gets so excited when he even *thinks* I am calling them to book a stay. We pull in to the parking lot and he can't wait to get out of the car. Every one greets him with excitement! I am glad he gets to outside on beautiful days. When we pick him up he is exhausted. The rates are quite reasonable across the board. When this place fills up (and it does) we take him to Petsmart in Chelmsford which is fine but they charge extra for daycare or medications or if you bring your own food. Plus they don't get to go outside at all. We have many closer options but continue to make the 20 minute drive to Westford to go to Ruff House! read more

Where do I begin. I have been taking our dog here since they first opened and he was under one year, and now he is six. It has always been a welcoming place with the UTMOST care for your dog and his/her welfare. Our dog comes home tired and happy! The owner and staff truly love the dogs they care for, and it is evident. People.. they have a bed in the boarding area and someone SLEEPS there at night. This place ROCKS! I have to say, that bottom review made me sad. We have boarded our 50 pound Husky/lab mix here several times and he loves it SO much that when we say, "Want to go to the Ruff House?!" he can't get to the car fast enough. He begins barking and running in circles, he is so excited. What I love about this place is that my dog is with others. He is not in a pen by himself, depressed, he is with dogs his size and having the time of his life. The interior rooms are climate controlled and the outside is a doggie playground--with mini pools to dip their feet in or lie in, slides, and plenty of shade. The determination to keep them out or bring them in is weather dependent and if it is too hot or cold, they stay inside. The best part, besides my dog LOVING this doggie amusement park, are the workers. They are all dog lovers and are so wonderful to the dogs. They use great training methods with the dogs and mine comes home better behaved than when he left. He also comes home with 'the Ruff House hangover'--he has to sleep off his happy activity for a few days :) read more

Back in 2008, I started looking for a place to board my 70 lb dog for 2 weeks while travelling internationally. My dog was incredibly skittish, distrusting of humans and anxiety riddled due to having been an eyewitness to his littermate be killed by a truck. I did the meet and greet and the anxiety transferred to me wondering if he would be able to cope with the environment. When I picked him up, he was following Ann and took to her like she was me. After that he, started going to the Ruff House once a week to get used to the place. Because the staff wants what is best for all dogs, I would sometimes find Bruiser hanging out in the office when he would get overwhelmed and feel most comfortable being near Ann. Overtime, he grew to be a different, more confident dog due to the interactions with sweet people who showed him love every time he entered the door. He thrived the two weeks we were gone and we have boarded him here ever since. He loves the place and starts howling with excitement when we reach Chelmsford center. He is almost 13 now, has renewed energy when he is at the Ruff House and now loves people. This place changed my dog for the better and has helped him lead a healthier, happier life. Complete Security for you when you have to go away Ruff House has Day care and just starting overnight and we have used that mainly. Great caring and well trained staff. I feel at ease with leaving my dogs there when I am away for multiple days. Location is good right off 495 read more

Hi- something is weird that they NEVER let you see where the dogs actually are!! They give you a tour of wherever the doggies are not at the time. I had called 3 times to ask what the daily routine was. My biggest concern was that they werent kept outside for long periods of time as the temperatures have been in the 90s. All 3 people on each phone call reassured me. I went to take a tour, physically spoke to a 4th person, and was promised that the little ones are only kept outside for not more than an hour at a time. My daughter was even with me. So i brought my little dog the next day for a meet and greet. Another guy who i had not spoken to before says ok, I'll take her now while we do the paperwork. So i said, oh there arent any dogs inside, is she going outside? He said yes they are outside until about 3:00!!!!!!!!!! I said what, thats not what the others told me, i specifically asked!! What had made me interested in their facility was that It is air conditioned, but what good is that?????? So i did NOT leave my dog there!!! AND TO ADD IT WAS GOING TO BE 93!!!! Are they told to LIE to propective clients? I am so grateful that the young man at the desk was honest with me! PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL!!! DOGS CAN EASILY GET OVERHEATED TOO!!! read more

This review is regarding grooming -- highly recommend looking elsewhere. My dog is usually groomed at PetSmart, thought to try RuffHouse. His hair was terribly cut and his nails were not trimmed at all - after having a dog for years I know what proper grooming is supposed to be. Worst part is, they are a small company so won't refund money or fix their mistake like PetSmart does. read more

I have boarded my dog (a young Labrador) here three times so far, for about a week each time. The place is like a doggy health spa! They feed her the food I provide, in the amounts I provide (exactly what she gets at home), and she's always leaner when I get back - so I can tell she gets plenty of play and exercise. more than I manage myself when I have her home with me! read more

I would not send my stuffed animal to this place. I went in for a tour and was not impressed. The staff was just standing around shooting dogs with water every time they barked. No one looked happy to be there and I did not see anyone giving attention to the animals. They then, explained their philosophy, which I was not impressed with either. They said they have 0 tolerance for barking or ruff housing and the staff makes sure everything is quiet all day.---- If I'm sending my dog to daycare I want them to be running around getting and exercising not walking or laying around. I would not recommend this place to anyone or anything. read more
