Horrible service. My wife and I had only one drink and were asked to leave for presumably no reason. When we asked what the reason for getting kicked out was the bouncer wouldn't give us one. Though the Royal may have a negative stigma attached I feel the most comfortable and secure there. Not only do they try and listen to the patron but they also seem to honestly want to bring the customer back and take care of them. Great place to shoot pool on a week night. Used to be that Wednesdays were free pool and great drinks specials, but I don't know about these days. Stay away on the weekends...meat locker. Just a bunch of dry humping and rude people. Some of the bartenders are great...others not so much. The Royal is a great nightclub to both start and finish the night. 2 floors. 3 bars. Including a dance floor, pool hall, and chill lounge (which becomes a karaoke bar during the week). The staff are all friendly, the bartenders are well seasoned, and the DJs rock. read more

Yeah. this place is kinda bro central in Bellingham. Do, best left avoided unless that's your thing. I mean, sometimes it's fun for an adventure and a cheap drink (they do have 50 cent well nights and other really good drink specials) and you will meet a character or two. The Royal, well I go there because the music is WAY better then Rumors music down the street, DJ knows what he's doin I give him a 5 star. The best part of the Royal is how much the vibe changes in different nights. I've been here quite a few times on Thursdays for cheap drinks, pool an darts and thoroughly enjoyed it. The upstairs is chill and a good place to hang out on weeknights. Weekends are a completely different matter! It's amazing for the people watching (all of the county kids all dressed up), but oh-so ghetto. I'll stick to Thursday's. read more

I am visiting from Olympia, and the first night I was there, it wasn't very lively. But the weekend was a blast! It's nice that you can play pool upstairs or dance down stairs, or even lounge and just sit at the bar. They also have karaoke on weekday nights. They don't really have a dress code that I'm aware of which is nice too. read more

Paid a visit on the 25th, a Saturday and I am sad to say that the entire time I was there they played a near steady stream of rap and a few songs that I had never heard before. Not very enticing for me. Especially when I was looking forward to better dance music. Was debating on going next door to GLOW the entire time. Great place. Has everything except for good food-- has pool (lots of tables and free tues/thrus), big dance floor, karaoke, cheap drinks, usually no cover and its big! Usually is not too packed which I love. Also there are a couple of awesome bartenders. The one that flips around bottles and wears a mohawk sometimes is the best. I have gone to The Royal a handful of times, and each time I receive lackluster treatment. The staff are not people friendly and the drinks are way overpriced. I have always been told to avoid this bar by friends who have had similar experiences. I've had many good times at the Royal, but had a not-so-good experience the other night with a bouncer. I'm an Uber driver and I take pride in knowing I am keeping at least some of the drunk people of Bellingham off the roads. I work Friday and Saturday nights, so most of my pickups are from bars. While on duty, I got a request from the Royal. I pulled up and stopped in an empty space along the curb. A bouncer that was standing by the doors immediately started shining and waving his flashlight at me. He walked up to my car, so I rolled down the window. He rudely told me I couldn't park there and asked if I could read the signs. He pointed at a sign down the street a little ways that had an arrow pointing to a parking space that says "no parking, stopping, etc.," during certain hours. The sign clearly did not apply to the spot I had stopped in. I told him I was an Uber driver picking up a passenger. Before he finished his next sentence about how I could park across the street or down the road, my passenger was in my car. I was there for maybe 30 seconds at the most. As I drove away, he yelled something about reporting me to the police. My passenger was appalled and said, "Wow, that guy was a dick!" It's terrible that a staff member is discouraging sober drivers from picking up drunk people from their bar!!! (I've never any issues with any bouncers/security/bar staff in town other than this.) read more

The staff is very rude, and the drinks are overpriced for how bad they taste. They also treat Uber drivers very poorly and favor taxi drivers, they would let taxi drivers pick up people but then with y'ell at any Uber driver coming to pick up their clients, pretty sure they don't own the rules of the road and anyone can park in the legal parking spots to pick up their clients. read more

This place is TERRIBLE. I used to go here sometimes before I graduated from WWU and it was ok then until Glow started to pick up, so I went there instead. But this place is always empty which can show how no one cares to go in here. The people that do go in here are the ghetto people of Bham. I mean honetly who still wears over sized polo's, long southpole shorts and all white generic Nikes? Anyways, the DJ also plays the wackest songs and uses music videos. Bartenders that Steal your change and charge your card more than what you bought. All to ensure they get the tip they want. Shady practice and poor service. I understand that they are trying to drive up what they take home in the end but generally most people tip anyways so stealing change and over charging cards by creating their own tips and thinking that no body will notice is just going to piss people off. Went there July 4 after the fireworks. We are a couple in our 50's, Music was great, only a few were dancing, but like us they were having a great time. As we were leaving one of the bouncers came up to me, ask our names and thanked us for coming in. It is one of those places that is as good as you want it be. If you want to have to have a Friday night good time The Royal offers Line Dancing. What's nice is that you see all ages represented, college students as well as the older generation. Michelle, the instructor, has so much energy and patience! We learn a new dance every week along with reviewing dances previously taught. I can't stress enough what a great time these two hours provide, the perfect way to relieve that week long stress. I will say that they have fun karoake nights (Tuesdays and Thursdays), which is why I give them two stars instead of one. However, the reason why I'm giving them such a low score is because of the terrible customer service I received when I went on a Saturday night. The bouncer thought my real Ohio state ID was a fake, so he confiscated it from me and told me to call the police to verify it. I called the police and waited almost an hour for them before they called me back and said they didn't have enough "manpower" to come. The bouncer refused to give me back my ID without the police, so I decided to leave and return another night with my passport to verify that my ID was real. They opened again that following Tuesday, so I went to the manager to ask for my ID back. He was very defensive and accusatory but he looked at my passport and confirmed that my ID was real and gave me back my ID. Moral of the story, if you're from out-of-state don't go on a Saturday or prepare to show your passport. read more

I love the atmosphere at this place, it's very big with tons of place to mingle and interact with all sorts of peeps. As soon as you enter, you're greeted by a coat check station afterwards an ATM and staircase leading up to a large pool table room where you'll find a cool upstairs bar and windows with room to view. Downstairs you'll find a huge and I mean huge 2 story bar with some of the most talented bartenders, including visually dramatic self trained flair - like that Tom Cruise movie Cocktail. Remember to ask if my favorite bartenders Jimmy, Blake or Regina are working for the best possible service while you're there. When it comes to the music selection, I'll leave this up to your taste. I'm not really fond of laptop auto-play music which is what they typically host most nights including the weekends. I prefer DJ's that can mix records or CD's on demand and request not a computer playlist, but that's my opinion we'll leave it at that.
