My interaction with this motel and their owners was one of the most unpleasant and regretted…read moreexperiences that I've had. They proved themselves to be ruthless business people that do not take care of their property and are completely unconcerned with the comfort and contentment of the guests staying in their motel. In contrast, the many other local businesses such as The Roxy Hotel, The Cape Motel, Aubrey's Inn, Ann's Fisherman's Fare, the Cape Vincent Liquor Store and Belle-Epoque were friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. My fiancé and I reached out to the Buccaneer Motel to get rates and reserve rooms for guests that would be attending our wedding in Cape Vincent. We spoke to the owner Ellen Hickey and getting her to commit to a rate that we could send out on our wedding invites was like pulling teeth, and their rates seem to fluctuate depending on her mood. That should have been the first sign to stay away from this business, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I reserved a few rooms for some family and friends. Ellen asked me to pay a $500 deposit by check. Guests BEWARE...they will ask you to pay a deposit by check so that when you arrive there, you have absolutely no recourse to receive a refund or to change your accommodations unless you're willing to take the financial loss (on a side note, paying by check is considered a legal binding contract, which we later found out after taking them to small claims court). The first guest to check in was my mother, and unfortunately, this was my first opportunity to see the motel and the rooms as my (now) husband and I live about 7 hours away. Be forewarned, the rates are ridiculously high considering the substandard conditions that they offer. Not only is this place severely outdated and in dire need of a complete renovation, but it is the antithesis of hospitality and cordialness. The owners are unfriendly, rude and unaccommodating. If you're looking for cozy, inviting and well-kept, this is not the place for you. The rooms, furniture, decor and bedding appear to have never been updated in their many decades of existence. The entire motel is dark, dank and has a strong stench of mustiness. The shower had mold in the crevices. The bedspreads look like they haven't been washed or replaced in years. On to the bigger issue.... That first night in the motel, my mother pulled back the bedspread on one of the beds and found a live bed bug in between the sheets. She called me right away and said that she didn't want to stay there, so we immediately made other arrangements for her. The next day, my fiancé and I went to the Hickeys to notify them of the situation, to advise them that the remainder of our guests would not be checking into their motel and to request our money back. They immediately became belligerent, accusatory and threatening. In addition to yelling at us, the husband Larry charged at and attempted to hit my fiancé and threatened to call the police. We left the premises with no resolution, and due to their confrontational behavior, we decided it was best to follow up by mail. We sent a letter to them requesting a refund of the money we paid and received no response. We then took them to small claims court, but unfortunately, our claim was denied because the actual witness, my mother (who lives in the Midwest), was not present to give her testimony about finding the bed bug in her bed. In the end, we were treated terribly by the Hickeys and lost the $500 deposit, but thankfully the rest of the wedding was a huge success. The moral of the story is: (i) avoid this place like the plague, and (ii) never pay a deposit by check even in a small town where you would expect the owners to be concerned about the reputation of their business.

Breakfast food and service excellent. Large portions. Starbucks coffee free, front desk in morning fantastic. Shower, no cold water in couple rooms, some only hot water. Still overall recommended. Nice pool and hottub. Large event space and easy parking. Ps Robes are very nice and worth $75. First, a fire alarm at 2:30 am meant I didn't sleep the rest of the night (meanwhile, I had to check out the next day and drive 3 hours to get home. Maybe no big deal for a young person in good health, but for a senior with myriad health issues, this was the start of a bad experience that just kept snowballing. Next, the hotel's boiler broke and it took them all night and well past 9 am before it was fixed. Right at the time when everyone is trying to take their shower, but can't so they can't get out, check out or just wash their hands???? How does a business whose sole service is providing "hospitality" NOT have a backup boiler?? Not a perfect solution, but a backup could have been activated and some service restored while the main boiler was being repaired during the morning wake-up, get out and go hours. The hotel doesn't offer a continental breakfast, just an overpriced and reportedly mediocre restaurant onsite. They do offer coffee, but there was NO coffee when I checked, even though it was still well within the window when they purport to offer it--and no one in sight to ask if they could refill the carafes. So now, I've had it. All I want to do is get the hell out. But I have severe COPD so I have to lug my oxygen machine as well as regular luggage anytime I travel. I could'nt manage all of it by myself. But of course all TWO of the luggage carts were in use by able-bodied single thirty somethings or families with children. Wouldn't it make sense for the hotel to reserve at least ONE cart for people in wheelchairs or who have trouble BREATHING??? When I went back to retrieve my oxygen machine, the key card would not open the room door because it was just past checkout time, so I had to go back to the lobby and ask the front desk to temporarily reactivate my card key. Will I visit Clayton NY again? Absolutely. Will I stay at the Harbor Hotel again? Sorry to say, No.

I like the concept of boutique hotels but sometimes find they can be too cramped or stuffy, not the Harbor House Inn. It's intimate but rooms are spacious so you feel like you can breathe. The room was absolutely amazing, farmhouse chic with a splash of coastal aesthetic. The soaking tub was to die for! The bed was very comfy. All the staff were friendly. Our room had a partial view of the lake, was a welcome surprise. The hotel is right in the center of town, perfect walking location to the battlefield, shops and eateries. A few weeks ago, my daughter called me and said that we should go on a "Staycation". I did not know…read morewhat this meant. She explained that many people were doing this to save money in transportation when going to other places. It meant we stay in Kingston, where we live, and enjoy re-discovering our town, taking tours, we had not done before, disconnecting for a few days of our jobs, and most important, spending time just us: mother and daughter. What a wonderful surprise it was for me to arrived at Frontenac Club to spent 3 days together. This boutique hotel is one of a kind located in the heart of downtown Kingston. We parked the car in the parking lot of the hotel during all our stay, as we were able to walk to the sites we wanted to visit. Also, within walking distance are the best restaurants in town. We were given two marvelous suites, one with a full living room, king bed, and an astonishing bathroom with a bathtub. The other one was also very impressive with all the amenities needed. Both suites were impeccable clean! Every morning, we went down to their restaurant called "The Bank" where we had a well served and complete breakfast (included), and the last day we dine there (tapas), accompanied by life music and the tastiest margaritas I have ever had. Frontenac Club personnel make a special point to get to know their guests. With 20 suites, all with different themes and sizes, they catered families, singles and couples. They have a sweet bar and small arcade for children, a lounge to read and play games, a patio to relax, enjoy the weather while having meals served also there. It is important to note that Frontenac Club is a heritage historic house build in 1871, and although it has been completely and beautifully renovated, it has kept its special character. It was home to one of the first Canadian Bank of Montreal, and therefore there is a vault, so large that it has been conditioned to host business meetings or private celebrations. I highly recommend staying at Frontenac Club. If you are celebrating an anniversary, or a family gathering (my brother and his family stayed here when they visited us from overseas), or if you are celebrating another special occasion, or coming to Kingston as a tourist, or as a staycation guest, you will not be disappointed!

We had planned a three day, two night staycation, with the plan to play tourists in our own beautiful city. The Frontenac Club, as the premiere luxury hotel in the area, was the ideal backdrop to this mother-daughter time, but to say that it exceeded our expectations is a serious understatement. The property itself is stunning, a perfect blend of historic character and modern luxury. The rooms are elegant yet inviting, with thoughtful design that makes every detail feel curated just for you. Our suites were a sanctuary: the Bell had soaring windows that filled the space with light, plush bedding that enveloped us in comfort, and my room, the Locomotive, had a spa-like bathroom that made every morning and evening feel indulgent. Every single inch of every space was impeccable. I am not sure if the staff run around with magnifying glasses, but I swear I couldn't find one thing that wasn't so clean that it sparkled. Each morning, we had a fantastic breakfast, included. It was really fun to come back to the room each night to find the menu for the next morning - each day had a special feature. On the first morning we had the Frontenac Benny, and on the second, we had stuffed french toast (a personal standout for the trip). We also loved the signature cocktails offered at the gorgeous bar, and indulged in the Candy Bar hidden away on the 2nd floor. Even sitting and reading in the comfortable and well appointed boardgame bar was a quiet respite from regular life. But what truly sets the Frontenac Club apart is the people, especially Sean. His warmth, dedication, and genuine care made us feel like family. That rare balance of world-class luxury with heartfelt hospitality is almost impossible to find, and yet Sean and the team deliver it effortlessly. My mom and I will never forget how welcome and cared for we felt; it's the kind of experience that stays with you long after you leave. When I first arrived, Thomas showed me to our rooms, and I told my mom that I would need to go get some bath bombs for the huge soaker tub. To my surprise, a few moments later while I was settling in, Thomas knocked on the door with some bath supplies. Each member of staff is available at all times - a cellphone number is provided and you can text any request and they will literally go above and beyond to find a way to make things even more special. Its these kinds of little moments that make a luxury stay so worthwhile. Kingston is a great place to visit. To see it from the lens of visitors for the first time really reminded us what makes it so special - we took the Island Princess boat cruise and saw a stunning sunset, ate at world-class restaurants like Tango Nuevo and Casa Domenico, and enjoyed the Kingston Penitentiary tour. Thank you to the Frontenac Club for hosting us on this really special getaway. From the quiet elegance of the rooms, to the extraordinary service, to the sense of being at home in a place so rich with history, the Frontenac Club is more than a hotel--it's a destination in itself. Kingston is lucky to have such a gem, and we can't wait to return. (If I could give more, I would.)

So frustrating but more so because it was the third set of doors that went to the restaurant. I went in and the sign said I should proceed to the right. Since the woman at the front desk was helping someone else I made the mistake of believing the sign. Stupid me! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Found the restaurant and our group at 6:18. The ambiance was very nice. The waitress was professional and helpful and accommodating. She was great. The appetizers excellent. We had six main dishes. The pasta was not cooked to al dente, closer to underdone. The salmon was good and so was the risotto. The Osso Bucco was tough and hard to eat. Oddly the meat was falling off the bone but the meat was still tough. The meatloaf was horrible, worst meal I have had in years. The waitress was wise enough to not ask how the meal was. She did not inquire why I didn't want a box for my uneaten meal. The greens that came with the meatloaf were undercooked. The masked potatoes were delicious. My conclusion is that the food is inconsistent and the failure of the waitress to ask how things were or anything reflects that she has wisely learned not to ask. Again, she was great.
