Great place to go when you can't be bothered to get your own breakfast, good choice, quality and friendly staff.

The photographs on the wall of this building from a professional photographer were giving me tips for my future style :-) Now, to the important bits: food! The service was very friendly and quick, attentive. We started with smoked salmon, and pumkin ravioli, so pleasant and rich to the palette. Proper bread was served earlier on with the butter in the right room temperature. Our mains followed not long after: the glazed pork belly was divine! It melted in your mouth! It was combined great with coconut and chilli rice. My partner opted in for the sea bass: they had added some mild spicy seasoning which tasted really great. I did like the house wine. I am not that experienced with this style of restaurants in Edinburgh, this is definitely though one I would recommend!

The first try was in the evening by and the wait was full. The second time was at lunch and with luck we got in. It is a pleasure! There are two places a few doors apart. One for reservations and one for the walk-ins. The place is modern and rustic, fits the vibe of the city. The staff are friendly and efficient with lots of knowledge about the food. The meal was outstanding. For a casual dining experience. This is a wonderful option. The haggis was a great version and the mash is lovely. Slightly creamy with the added flavors make it more than basic mash. The bacon and onion was not overpowering and complimented the haggis wonderfully. The lamb was perfect, fell off the bone with a deep rich sauce. The scotch bonnet added flavor without a lot of heat. The broccoli was perfectly steamed and still crispy. Everything was fresh and bright and balanced. We fully loved the entire experience!

The bun maska was perfectly drenched in butter, and the chai was hot and comforting. The chili chicken was also really flavorful with the perfect spice level. For our mains, we got the Ruby Chicken and House Black Dal with garlic naan, chili paratha, and a side of plain rice. The Ruby Chicken had a delicious tomato gravy, and the chicken pieces were really soft. The dal was thick and creamy. Everything paired together so well. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself was beautiful, with a Bombay-inspired atmosphere. There's seating both upstairs and downstairs, and while we didn't have any issues, I've heard there can be long wait times. Our server was friendly, although the service felt a little sloppy at times. They also surprised us with complimentary champagne since we were celebrating a special occasion, which was really nice. I found the portions to be a little smaller, and it's definitely on the pricier side, but I think it's worth the splurge. If you're visiting the UK, I'd definitely recommend checking out Dishoom!

And the service is attentive. It's a beautiful thing to witness, even better to experience. My Negroni order was sent to the bar while my server and I chatted about what I might like. So efficient. I ended up ordering a couple of small plates. A spicy lamb dish and a hot/cold combo of yogurt and mashed hot veggies. Rather quickly my drink was served and a short while later my food appeared. Those small plates were not so small! Loads of food for one, perfect starters for two. Finished with a house chai - delicious!

But it is the café that takes the biscuit. Té-stefully decorated and spacious, it seats about 40 people and in the middle is a huge mechanical statue by Paolozzi which is an impressive sight whist supping away at your drinks. The menu, if a tad overpriced, is pretty good. There are not a huge selection of teas or coffees but all the classics are there and it's good to Chai a few and share them around as they're all really nice. I had the hot chocolate with cream (inexplicably clotted cream, not whipped cream) which was excellent. The cakes are definitely the best though, once you start one scone in seconds (...sorry). They actually do sell scones, which are excellent, coming with champagne and strawberry jam and cream. There is also a multilevelled cake stand (£12 per person or £16 with prosecco) which is so good it'll leave you in tiers. The staff are really friendly and make the whole experience great. There is often a fairly limited range of baking on offer, but I have never had anything of bad quality here at all. The brownies are outstanding and so is the lemon polenta cake. Good little shop next to the cafe with presents that would suit an arty friend or relative. And have a look at the allotments on your way out - charmingly maintaining what used to be a kitchen garden from when the building was an orphanage.

Pomo Pizzeria is located in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh and was just a stones throw away from our hotel. We sat down and pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves! Their menu features pizza, pasta, a variety of share plates (appetizers) and more with a good amount of kid friendly options too. Posted on their wall, you'll also find their specials that include drinks and dessert. We went with a capricciosa pizza, risotto funghi misti, and penne arrabiata. For dessert, vanilla ice cream! Our food came out quickly and overall, pretty good. Flavors were a bit light and could've been seasoned more, but still good and didn't feel heavy on the stomach. What I really liked about the restaurant was the decor. It was totally my jam with a bit of the old world charm in the use of wood and their brick walls, mixed with modern fixtures and features. Definitely recommend this spot if you're in the neighborhood! Prices are fair and don't break the bank.
