Well if there's anyone on this island that can get your okole off da couch and into some fitness,…read moreit's Justin Yanagida! His infectious enthusiasm for YOUR health is irresistible! After moving to Wailuku from Kihei I was not liking the local gyms and my husband had a co-worker who found Yanagida Fitness. I went to one group workout, loved it, signed up for two free weeks and have been there ever since. Justin has a team of coaches who guide you through a 45 min workout that is never boring and always feels good. You are invited to go at your own pace. My favorite coach is Shannon on M-W-F 9am. This is a homegrown gym with little frills but big on motivation. Come here if you need group pressure to get you moving, easy exciting Tabata style workouts and are afraid of gyms and weight machines. Use what G-d gave you and come get fit with the gang! Come on in and try for free! Justin is good like that. The workout and Ohana is all the sales pitch you need.

Yanagida Strength and Fitness is not a place for people to shy away from. Founder and trainer, Justin Yanagida is one of the most, if not the most caring and motivating trainers on Maui. His motto, Fighting Sickness with Fitness drives him to motivate you to "become a healthier version of you", as he puts it. You do not feel intimidated by other members, contrary to that every member of the YSF family encourages each other to become better than yesterday. Most members actually become close friends. Also, unlike most gyms families, YSF family consists of members ranging from high schoolers to grandparents. If you're looking to become healthier and want to avoid the typical gym experience. YSF is the place for you. Morning and evening classes, as well as personal training sessions, this gym home is fit for all people. Come in and try it out, you won't wanna leave!

The location is in the Target parking lot on the Petco side, so there's plenty of parking. It's next to Verizon. Be wary of high traffic times because the intersection outside gets busy! There is an entry area with a check-in desk and friendly staff along with some lockers and merch. They definitely need more benches for people waiting for the next class. I think they can afford at least one more bench. The time before each class gets crowded and awkward. The class is inside an all-glass space. They have 10x rowers, 10x treadmills, & 10x floor training spots with weights & TRX, etc. classes are a mix of a 3G or 3-part class of 15-20 minute blocks, which is the only type I do. They also have 2G, which means each block is 30-minute, which I'm not ready to try. Lots of challenges and different workouts everyday to keep it different and fun. Trainers and staff are all great and motivational. They have two bathrooms and one shower. They sadly do not provide bath or hand towels. For such a premium establishment, this was disappointing for myself as I came from Equinox on the mainland and payed similar monthly dues. You can pay per class, in chunks of 8, or have an unlimited pass like I do. I come everyday and love the classes. You can book on the app ahead of time, which is great. They do need more class times and/or trainers as they grow their customer base as classes get filled up 1-2 weeks ahead of time. You have to be pretty agile with the app or website and book ahead! Also, more weekend classes would be great as they all end by 11A. Overall, I'm enjoying my 2-month package promo and it's allowing me to burn more calories and stay active within my busy schedule.

1ST IMPRESSION My very first time attending Move Camp (a…read moreTeam Move style boot camp) was for a CMYE Yelp Kicks Butt event. They hosted a large group of Yelp members and did several different workouts with us using both our body weight and exercise equipment. They made the class both challenging and fun and even provided us with light snacks afterwards and gave away a few of their anniversary t-shirts. I enjoyed this class but at the time, I wasn't really serious about staying active and getting in good physical shape. http://www.yelp.com/biz/yelp-kicks-butt-team-move-hawaii-honolulu 2ND ENCOUNTER Team Move hosts a "Thanksmoving Workout" every year on Thanksgiving morning. The workout is early enough so that you don't miss too much of the Macy's Day Parade and football! Anyway, I thought it was a brilliant idea to have a huge group workout on the morning of Thanksgiving to lessen the guilt of all of the crap that we eat on Thanksgiving. What a great way to work for your Thanksgiving meal. The Thanksmoving workout was awesome and they had drones fly above us during the workout to get some pictures of us in action. We did a bunch of cardio and strength exercises very similar to the CMYE YKB. After the class, they gave away a few pumpkin pies. LONG-TERM COMMITMENT It took me almost a year to attend another Team Move class not because Team Move's staff and programs aren't great (they really are!) but for the fact that I just wasn't committed to being active and staying in shape. So I've somewhat buckled down and am working out on a more consistent basis because I've been attending Team Move classes for about two months now and am so grateful for both the instructors and members for making it fun to workout. Team Move offers a variety of classes including Move Camp, Work FIT, Senior FIT, yoga, and personal training. I've been attending both yoga classes and Move Camp, which are outdoor group exercise classes that is similar to circuit training and boot camps. The yoga classes, instructed by yoga guru Danny, are awesome and are held at Magic Island near the ocean. The classes are held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Danny helps us relax and gain strength, balance and flexibility. The yoga poses he goes through with us are both easy and challenging at the same time. How so? He provides easy and advanced modifications to fit everyone's level of fitness. The Wednesday evening class is a perfect way to end my workday as it helps me to decompress and at the end of class, we catch the beautiful sunset from the beach park. Move Camp, usually instructed by Damon (Owner of Team Move), offers a wide variety of exercises for all fitness levels. Classes are held at Ala Moana Beach Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Exercises are done using our body weight and also a ton of different exercise equipment. Some of the equipment we use are resistance bands, weights, battle ropes, sand bells, medicine balls, etc. We also use "The Wall" which is the stone wall that lines the sidewalk of our workout area. The wall provides us with a lot of great ways to work out different areas of our body. Like I mentioned-the exercises are for all fitness levels and Damon always offers modifications (both easy and advanced) to cater to everyone's fitness levels and injuries, if any. I'm not a fan of working out at the gym because I get bored easily being indoors and my workouts feel redundant there. Move Camp is perfect for me and what I love most about it is the variety of exercises that the classes offer. No two workouts have ever been the same and this is great not just for my sanity and to keep things interesting but for physical health and toning alone. I definitely recommend taking Team Move classes to anyone and everyone for a number of reasons: Classes and services are priced reasonably compared to many other personal trainers and fitness programs, the instructors are talented and really great at what they do, the members are awesome and a pleasure to workout with and hey-you're not living if you're not moving. If you attend a class, you'll be lapping everyone on the couch!

Well, she ended up taking my injury into account and instead of just watching, I was able to put in a low impact workout that didn't strain my back at all. She kept up the instruction and rhythm with everyone else while offering me at least 2 modifications for each exercise. Traci is always well-prepared, meticulous and fun. Totally worth the $.

I started going here right after Thanksgiving and managed to stay motivated…read morethrough the new year - due in large part to my awesome coach Mel and the lovely ladies of the 530 AM class! That's right - 530 AM! Believe it or not, it is NOT the earliest class - that honor goes to the 445 AM boot camp - but it's a great way to start off your day. Egan's is all about contributing to your success. There are supplements, protein snacks and drinks, and a bit of gear for sale. Parking is right on the premises at $1/hour. And there is ALWAYS parking! Everyone who works the desk greets you every time you walk in, and my coach requires a once-weekly weigh in. If you aren't trending toward your goal, she (or he) reaches out to you to talk about your variables and how you can change your trajectory. Several times a year there are also challenges to mix things up a bit. These guys are as invested as you are! Coaches are always available to you. And a weigh in isn't just a weigh in - it's a really cool overall body analysis that shows you how much water is in your system (and consequently, how much more you could have), how much of your weight is fat and how much is muscle. I know! Cool - AND it holds you accountable. The gym has an app that allows you to manage your payments and reserve a spot for classes. Membership is unlimited all access - you can go to any location at any time and take any class, multiple times a day. Yeah, people go multiple times a day! Classes are fun, but they are HIIT classes, so you do to until exhaustion. But like all fun and challenging things, you can't wait to do it again. Classes also seem to switch the instructors up as well as the workouts, so don't be concerned that you'll get bored because you won't! Even more awesome, during this COVID-19 time the gym has closed but instructors are offering any number of online classes via FB Live and Zoom so you can keep on keeping on! And they are just committed and motivating online as they were in person. I always thought I could just work out on my own and be fine. I liked doing that too. But classes appear to be something I really respond to. I like the accountability and the energy of having others participating with you. I honest to God thought I was going to pass out at my first workout. I quickly realized I was horribly dehydrated and underestimated the effects of a pre-workout protein bar and it never happened again. Egan's help you develop a real body awareness and focus, and helps you renew your commitment to your own success. If you're wondering whether you can make it through a workout, well, you're just going to have to try it. And I highly recommend that you do. You may just surprise yourself!

I love this class as the teachers motivate you in a positive way and it's great because they have accountability to keep you motivated in attending class and being interactive with your health goals. I started to feel a big difference within the first two weeks of attending and the classes run Monday, Wednesday & Friday. I had more energy. I could feel more muscle mass and even though the class is only half an hour you get an intense work workout not only cardio but muscle building. Before I started, I was in the worst shape of my life, always getting sick and feeling fatigue most of the time . After being there for about a month, I can say I have a new outlook on life and truly appreciate what they have done for me.
