Massive events space…read more Was here for a work conference. Rooms are big and bathrooms are clean, thats about what I expect from an events space. Excel is accesible directly from 2 train stations. However, if you get off on the wrong station, its a 15 min walk to the other side of excel complex. I got lucky on first try and it was about a 3 min walk from train to inside. Outside of the conf. space i was in, there is a huge indoor area that does seem to have shops and restaurants. It had a lot of other events going on at the same time, so seems to be a busy area. Note it takes at least 10 minutes to walk the length of the indoor space, so its huge! It's a bit out of the way from center of town, but if you are already here for an event, plenty of restaurant options inside and outside at walking distance.

I really looked forward to the re-opening of the Tudor Barn. We went there today and it was quite…read moredisappointing. There are not so many nice places where you can go and have great food in a nice location in Eltham. So I thought this place will make a difference for Eltham. I was wrong. It's such a nice location in a park with a nice outside area, so I am dissapointed that it isn't used better. I was quite shocked when we saw the food menue: 5 sorts of baguettes with chips and salad for 5 Pounds. That's all. We went there 2 days after they re-opened. Wow, the service has room for improvement, to say it nicely. The barrista had to asked me 4 times what I want to order. They told us that the baguettes are sold out but that they offer sandwiches instead. Sandwiches for 5 Pounds! We got a refund at the end but anyway if you just offer baguettes you should make sure that you have enough of them. We had to wait for ages till we got everything and the quality was poor. I am not a salty eater, but even I had to add salt to my food. There were several guests in a wheelchair when we were there. The manager told one of the guests that they don't have disabled facilities. How can this be when they refurbished everything? Because it was two days after they opened I gave them 2 stars, otherwise it would be one. I will try them in another six month. I hope their service has improved by then. Otherwise, I am sure, there will be a new owner again.

The menu was full of tempting dishes, there was a huge slab of cow on the specials which we decided to share between the four of us. As it was so huge we skipped starters. This was a bad move because the cow took well over an hour to show up. We asked after it a few times, and were told it was coming in a way that gave us no confidence whatsoever. The staff were friendly but slightly devious in this way. When the food arrived, it was worth the wait. Really worth the wait. Beautifully cooked. Desserts were similarly excellent, as was the wine. I would give this place top marks if it were not for the waiting.

This is really not near London at all, nor is it within walking distance of anything, AND it's nearly two hours from the Southampton cruise port. I must point that out right away. We took hired cars everywhere as the London Underground was not very near either. The hotel itself was clean and nice, and it offered a very good free hot breakfast with plenty of seating. There is also a Chinese restaurant attached to the hotel that was pretty tasty. The fire alarm went off VERY early on one of the days we were there, and then we were left without hot water or flushing toilets for several hours. Thank goodness we were already ready for the day. The elevator only fit a few people and was one of the smallest I have ever been in -- but it was working while we were there. I recommend this hotel if you want to do something in Greenwich. Not a great option if you want to visit London daily.
