At some locations, restrooms are located off stair landings. There is an accessible chair lift to some rooms, however it rarely works. There is a very pleasant cafe on the ground floor that serves light snacks and drinks. Often there are a number of older individuals enjoying a little relaxation at the tables and chairs set up in the foyer. The full glass doors provide an inviting entrance to an otherwise unassuming facade. The building also has an entrance off of princes street. The staff are usually very pleasant and helpful.

You walk in up the steps and you can see the old crumbling walls with paint peeling off, which makes it look old and rustic. All the seats are laid out and at the front there was a little raised bit that was covered in candles which added a warm glow.. Along either sides of the walls are the original stain glass windows which were beautiful and added some lovely colour. If you are looking for something a little different for your wedding then this place is definitely worth a look as it is stunning.

The place is a bit shabby looking and could do with a refurb. Up the stairs are two large rooms, one was used for a reception and the other for the sit down dinner and disco. I get the feeling this place is mostly used for Indian weddings and can certainly accommodate hundreds of guests. The food (Indian) was amazing and the sound system big enough for a place 4 times the size!

As my viewing for my potential wedding we thought the staff were a little cocky as if they assumed you would just use them because they are popular. We chose not to due to the state of the place which had not improved in the meantime now we have returned for another wedding. The reception area is grotty. Dirty glass walls and floor, scuffed paint and a smell of drains. Seriously paint the whole place rather than touch it up. The upstairs main rooms are a little Bette but then you see the skirtings and door- filthy. On our visit the civil room was laid out but chair covers were dirty and the carpet had not been vacuumed. Overall VIP offers a turn-key solution but falls down on delivery and attention to detail for which their sense of entitlement to your business does not sit well.

We wandered in for a gin festival (which was a bit rubbish...) but I could see the venue was still good. - They have cloak rooms downstairs that were pretty efficient - There are loads of ladies loos (so you shouldn't have to wait for too long!) - It's a brilliant location

It was originally built in 1509 and has been home to people such as Sir Francis Bacon! The entire place is very well maintained and somehow manages to provide modern amenities while maintaining it's history and authenticity. The staff at the Canonbury Academy are all incredibly pleasent and very accomodating. The rooms are well planned and perfectly organised. Like I said earlier, they somehow manage to balance new and old. The rooms are gorgeous and elegant, but are also set up with overhead projects and televisions. Perfect! Our lunch and coffee breaks were served in an adjoining room which was also lovely, on both occassions. Last but certainly not least, the price is right. I'm actually suprised at how affordable the Canonbury is for events. They also offer a charity rate which chops off a significant percentage. Be sure to mention if you're a charity though, they don't always ask!

It's not only full of history but also just the most beautiful setting. The main hall is hired out for events throughout the year with regular vintage sales and art fairs, attracting a well healed Chelsea crowd. My most recent visit was for the annual Parallax Art Fair. A cellist was playing in one corner making this a very civilised experience while the artworks on offer were outshone by the hall's gorgeous ceiling and chandeliers. The bar area off to one side of the main hall made me smile. Time had stood still here and it felt like entering the breakfast room of a faded seaside home for the elderly. I didn't stop for a coffee, moving on to one of the more modern establishments along the Kings Road instead.

They also host craft fairs here and other cool local happenings. It's such a beautiful place to hold events like this. Gold gilt walls and crystal chandeliers, there is even a retro little cafe that serves up wonderful egg mayonnaise baguettes! I wish I knew more of the history of this place as I'm sure there are some awesome old folk tales of dances and war time tales.
