I was at a friend's place and took the train back to my hotel when I stopped by this place for breakfast. Automatically I was greeted with pleasant British accent. (Americans love British accents.) The server was very friendly and charming. I ordered a mozzarella tomato panini which was fantastic. I also enjoy the latte as well. While I like the food it is decent. Nothing out of the ordinary. The main draw for me is that it is a work-friendly joint with free wifi and a big central table. I was sceptical about the longevity of The Roasting when it first opened on Churton Street a couple of years ago. The reason is simple: the area is entirely bereft of the sort of trendy coffee shop that The Roasting takes as its ancestor. There's a Pain Quotidien, Caffe Nero, Pret, even a Gail's now, but nothing quite like The Roasting. Years later (I think, I don't quite remember when it opened) and The Roasting has cemented itself as a Pimlico institution. I got my coffee there on the way to work this morning and had to queue for 10 minutes (the only downside to this venue is the speed of service) because it was full of YoPros and buggy-pushing parents. But it's hardly a surprise: the shop is light, bright and clean, with plenty of desk space to work, and reliable free wi-fi. It also has a very continental amount of outdoor seating space. The coffee itself is excellent. I almost always go for a black americano (cos it's my jam) but all the coffees there are good and I've seem some pretty amazing latte art. The selection of pastries is nice (though the croissants are a little bready) and they also sell a much-appreciated selection of odd European sweeties. Having an unexpected Kinder Bueno with your coffee is a real treat. I think it's fair to say that The Roasting is the best coffee shop in the Pimlico/Victoria area. It can get very hot and busy in the summer but, again, that's testament to its qualities rather than any failure of planning. The shop is small and maybe they'll look for expanded premises in the future (or a franchise?), but for now, I'd highly recommend stopping by if you find yourself lost for coffee between train trips to Milton Keynes. read more

It looks inviting from the outside. On a sunny day, it would be great to have claimed one of the seats outside and sip a drink while watching people walk by. The inside looks attractive too. I wasn't sure at the time, but I think it's the use of space and minimalism. There are small defined areas where food is displayed. There is enough room to swing a pushchair. But given we are describing a cafe rather than an art gallery, it doesn't quite work. There is a square communal table towards the corner which may fit a dozen or so around it. If you don't get a seat there, then you are hoping for one of the four raised seats near the window. You feel like you would be lucky to get a seat of it were moderately busy. I ordered a black Americano to have in. They brought it over to me and it was a nice coffee. I had thought that I would also order something to eat with it, but there was nothing which took my fancy from the few things which were available. But that could be the point: I think this place is much more about the coffee than the food. read more

Being Italian I know how a good espresso should taste. And I also know how a proper Italian snack should be made. At The Roasting they know how to do it. Very good coffee, no matter if you fancy having an espresso, a cappuccino or a latte. Nice and friendly environment. There are some seats outside and on the inside the shop is very bright thanks to the big windows facing the main road. It is even very close to both Victoria and Pimlico stations.
