I never really got into the whole boba hype when I was growing up. Still, the prospect of boba on the other side of the Atlantic piqued my interest when I was in the neighborhood... First things first: you'll definitely feel the dollar-to-pound conversion when you peruse the menu. While I am no stranger to paying extra for some of the fancier toppings (like jellies), I was a little disappointed to see that even the boba tapioca balls cost an extra £0.50. (Maybe this is normal outside of the States, where the drink is known as "milk tea" instead of "boba"? Because otherwise I find it hard to believe that boba can be sold without, well, the boba...) I went with the Assam black milk tea because I find that choosing the most basic of milk teas is the best way to evaluate a boba spot. It wasn't as sweet as the basic black milk teas that I usually can find in the U.S. (understandable, as most drinks in the U.S. are probably sugarier). The boba was fresh (to be expected, as I had pay extra for it...) At the end of the day, I had paid £4.50 for the regular size of some pretty average tasting boba. The shop itself is pretty tiny, though the seating is pretty hip-looking.

I really wanted a matcha icecream however it was out of order. In fact, a couple of options were out of order. Not sure if it was due to the fact that it was already late when I stopped by. One of the servers were really helpful as I made my order. As I am lactose intolerant and I can't have cold/caffeinated drinks often. I asked which drinks don't have caffeine and she recommended me the chocolate bubble tea. I also asked for alternate milks and she said they have oat milk. And I paid an extra pound for it. The whole interactions were great and the drink was nice - except I think the girl who made my drink didn't add in the alternative milk. If I am correct, I think she just poured whatever they have in the tanks into the bubbles and gave it to me. I could tell she was in a bad mood and she just wanted to go home. The drink tasted nice like a chocolate milk - except I have not had milk in years. Silly me, now I think back, I don't think I tasted any oat milk for paying extra. I shared the drink with my husband. Then an hour later my stomach was in so much pain. It was a lactose intolerant reaction that I am fairly familiar with. Unfortunately, I didn't have any pills. My stomach was in a twisted knots the whole night as I went to bed in agony. So I think the girl who made my drink didn't follow the instructions and do the right thing. Zero stars for this soft serve society if that's the truth. After paying $10 (after conversion) for bubble tea that gave me a stomachache, I regretted making this choice.

Wasabi = Lifesaver…read more After weeks of being deprived of flavor and garlic and asian food, I've finally found my refuge. I'm shook at the low ratings for this establishment, but I happen to have a ton of good things to say about Wasabi so... here we go :) 1. Accessibility - It's everywhere in the UK. London, Cambridge, train stations, just everywhere so you can easily find one when you need it. Love that. I literally get their miso soup like every day. Neeeeed. 2. Taste - It's delicious! The rice was never over- or undercooked, katsu was always crispy, and curry was hot & yummy, and sashimi was also approved by my sensitive stomach :) hmm it's difficult to emphasize with the angry reviews about "low quality sushi" and what not, but ya get what you pay for. Actually, I'd say you get better than what you pay for at Wasabi. While I agree you can def get better quality sushi elsewhere, Wasabi (to me) is like a Subway equivalent in the States, so all things considered, I think it's still delicious for what it is & what it costs. 3. Convenience + options - It's super convenient and the options are endless! There are tons of grab and go options like salads, rolls, bento sets, onigiris, sushi sets, chirashi, and so much more including desserts. When I'm in a hurry, I just grab whatever looks good to me and eat it on my way to somewhere. Easy peasy. If you're craving for more, you can get katsus, curry, yaki, korean chicken wings, and a ton of other hot things. So so delish. 4. Price - It's reallyyy cost effective for what it is. When it comes to food, I don't really consider cost as much as I consider quality & convenience. I never remember how much I paid, but Wasabi's quality is always better than what I pay for because I've come here so many times (more than I can count) to try almost everything on their menu and they have never disappointed me with their quality in hot and cold foods. They deserve more, and I'd even pay more really :) 5. Customer service - there's hardly ever a line for things, because everything is so speedy & efficient. Also, (saved the best for last) the employees are so incredibly kind. Literal angels. I try to come here by myself or with friends whenever possible for a health & palate detox. I hope Wasabi continues to be the wonderful establishment that they are, to bring freshness & flavor & joy into our world that can use more.... um.... garlic maybe ;)

It opened last week and I don't think they have a website at the moment so I wanted to share what I could about this place. Menu is basic but has the essential milk and fruit teas. I'm pleased to see that they have a caffeine-free selection as well! I ordered a jasmine green tea with pearls and it tasted so good and fresh. Pearls were also soft and chewy. They have a special discount going on due to their grand opening so definitely check them out. What is also unique is that their cups look recyclable and possibly reusable (material is more stronger than usual boba cups) so will see if this is true when I come back to ask!
