I was in town visiting my folks and was shocked that they were still open. I used to go here regularly in the mid 90s. Wish I had kept my collection from back in the day! Long live Strike Zone!

While most local card shops understand the basic etiquette of retail and will happily meet you halfway, these individuals seem intent on setting a rather grim precedent. One does try to be sympathetic to the realities of commercial estate; no doubt their monthly rent requires a small fortune. However, passing that entirely onto the consumer with a 100% markup feels less like business and more like a gentle mugging. It is a lovely shop, admittedly, and wonderfully stocked--which makes it all the more tragic that walking inside feels like a masterclass in financial extortion. Charging up to $100 over market value for a bit of cardboard isn't a strategy; it's just remarkably greedy. I wouldn't dream of recommending them. In fact, I would actively encourage you to take your custom literally anywhere else. Three strikes, you're out. On a more frustrating note, local card shops are supposed to be the backbone of the community, not artificial barriers to entry. When a store hides behind its overhead costs to justify massive, predatory markups on newly released products, it actively ruins the hobby for casual collectors and kids alike. Supporting businesses that exploit FOMO only validates this behavior. If we want a healthy card market, we have to vote with our wallets and refuse to buy from shops that prioritize short-term gouging over long-term community trust. Remember, nothing last forever.
