South Pas, as we like to say, calls itself the "City of Trees" because its streets are lined with numerous species of native California trees - including Redwood, Sequoia, Ash, Walnut, and Sycamore. The Craftsman houses are beautiful, and the neighborhoods are charming. A number of movies have been filmed here: The Terminator, Gone With The Wind, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Back to the Future, Halloween...to name a few. As well as a variety of TV shows such as Desperate Housewives and Modern Family. I love coming to this area to shop or dine - there are so many neat places. I also enjoy checking out the Farmer's Market every Thursday (4 pm - 8 pm), which is conveniently located by the Gold Line Station. The city also hosts fun community events throughout the year including The Taste of South Pasadena, which is my favorite. Parking is also free, just pay attention to signs in residential areas. It's a historic neighborhood with many craftman style houses and buildings so well preserved! Other areas in LA should follow South Pasadena's model. It's charming, with lush vegetation, but hip and modern in the same time with great restaurants, cafe's, bakeries, shops, art galleries. It's lively, but not crowded, relaxing to pop in various places and stroll around. I will be back to do more activities in the areas since I discovered a cool part of town that I will gladly revisit and spend time. Charming and relaxing, away from the hustle and bustle!

The police officers were so respectful, kind and actually cared about their residents. I so miss officer Wise. He tired long ago. Even the parking enforcement people were nice. Today , most of the officers and parking cadets are so arrogant and treat residents like criminals. The parking enforcement cadets are eager to cite you over anything. if you stop for a second to let someone out of your car on the red curb, because there was no other option. Even when your car is on. I never saw the cadet and never knew I had " broken " the law. I was shocked to receive the ticket by mail. The cadet didn't speak to me , I never even saw him; going by the pics , I can see that he followed me. Never put the light on me or honk his horn. I. guess the parking enforcement cadets NOW can cite you for a moving violation. I requested to speak with the watch commander on duty. I stood for 45 minutes waiting for the officer. I am a senior , disabled person. The officer finally showed up and had a very defensive attitude. He showed no courtesy at all. I unfortunately did not write his name down. He didn't have any interest in listening anything I had to say . It makes me think the cadets have a quota of citations to meet daily. While I was waiting at the police station for the watch commander, a woman came in with a similar complain: she got a parking ticket on the mail, but the cadet didn't leave a copy on the windshield. So drivers are now being spied on by the parking cadets from far away , no hard copy on your windshield because you are way to far from them . All they have to do is write your plate number and you'll get a surprise notice on the mail. This is corruption at its highest. It reminds me of the motorcycle police officer , also in South Pasadena, who hides behind bushes or on private driveways by the high school and on Orange Grove, ready to stop and cite people. Before , this motorcycle officer was the only sneaky character. Now the parking cadets are here to get you too and they are supported by the police. So shameful!!

I knew that a few house fronts used in popular films were located in the area, including the famed Michael Myers home from the "Halloween" horror franchise. The home was rescued from demolition and moved to its current location, where it now serves as an office building behind the South Pasadena light rail station. Upon arrival, the sky was almost dark so everything was perfectly spooky. My initial plan was to walk around the outside of the home & post the video on TikTok. But as I made my way toward the corner where the home is situated, I noticed a small film crew with a couple tripods. I figured they were recording something for social media too, as it's not unusual to see that type of thing in L.A.. But I received an extra-special surprise immediately after seeing the famed Michael Myers mask atop another tripod. A young man dressed in Myers' signature coveralls appeared & told me he was shooting footage for his TikTok page with the group I saw earlier. And get this...he offered to put his mask on for me & suggested that I film him walking down the front porch! My timing couldn't have been better & it gave my little video the fear factor I wanted. Fall is just around the corner, so now's the time to see the house for yourself. And who knows? Maybe you'll get lucky & run into Michael Myers because apparently horror movie legends understand the importance of social media, too.

We were disappointed to find out it was closed on Saturday so we will try again on our next trip to Pasadena. There is apparently a tour you can buy tickets for and go around in the house. Not sure about the details though. There wasn't much information on it. We instead just took a bunch of pictures on the porch and went next door to The SugarMynt Gallery.
