The library is a great place to get some work done. Plenty of tables to choose from. Parking wasn't too bad.

mosaic column in Children's Room.

I came here because this is the only library that is housing a limited edition book that I wanted to see, which the author gifted the library decades ago when she came to speak at the library. I was enticed into the Children's Room by the wonderful quilt on the wall, of open books, spine out, each sporting a cover of a different design. Then, I saw the even more wonderful mosaic column by the Children's Room librarian's desk. Scrabble letters form intersecting words, crossword-style, interspersed by colorful, square smalti. Each side of the column is decorated, but differently on each side. I also saw the wall of shelves of "last chance" books for sale for only 50c each! Be still my heart! I left with an armload of new-to-me books, some nice enough to gift. I will certainly stop back in when I'm in the area, to see that fabulous column again, and to see if there are more books that I cannot do without. The staff was friendly and helpful. Easy street parking, as the library is smack-dab in the center of a shady, park-like block.

Co-vid 2021 update. Very satisfied with my experience for "library take out ". Their website was easy to negotiate and I called to confirm they were doing take out. The person on the phone explained that the books do have a quarantine period when they are returned. On line I placed a hold on the book I wanted. I got a call the following day saying that the book was ready for pick up. I parked on the street and walked up to what used to be the main entrance.. I gave my last name and the librarian got my book from a designated table. I am very impressed with how organized and orderly this transaction was. Keep it going!!

Good library in little charming community! The place does get packed, they offer story times, events, for free! Pros: - love the little bookstore located inside the library. They offer some books for sale downstairs near the check out stand and bigger selection upstairs. All pretty reasonable prices! Found some kids books for .50 cents each. - large selection of different books - kid selection has plenty of books, puzzles and toys - during the summer, they offer a different kids program each week ranging from STEM to magician show! Cons: - it is a bit run down, it hasn't seen much update at all. - the air conditioner is not that great, since it is a old building! - can be packed at times... so hard to find a seat to study.

A quaint library in the heart of South Pasadena. The outdoor space is beautiful, and the staff are friendly. Unfortunately, this library is not connected to the greater Pasadena system, so you are limited to this one location for book selection. A lot of seemingly homeless folks hang out here; this leads to limited space to work at the work tables. If this bothers you, I would try out another library.

During my visits to Crowell Public Library, I initially observed that the exterior architecture…read morecarries a historical charm and is visually appealing. However, beyond the building's design, my experiences within the library have been deeply concerning. Over multiple visits, I have encountered employees whose conduct has been inconsistent with professional standards. Staff behavior has, at times, been selective and antagonistic toward certain patrons, including both adults and children. On several occasions, this conduct has escalated into interactions that were verbally aggressive and physically intrusive in nature. Personally, I, along with my nephews, niece, and other family members, have experienced repeated instances of being singled out, harassed, and subjected to what can reasonably be described as hazing while attempting to use the library and its resources respectfully. These incidents have not been isolated, and I have documented several of them through recordings. The overall environment created by staff has, at times, felt restrictive and punitive rather than welcoming, which is not in alignment with the purpose of a public library. This pattern of behavior is unacceptable. Library staff and management are responsible for ensuring that all employees consistently uphold professional ethics, integrity, and appropriate standards of conduct--without exception or selective enforcement. I expect immediate review and corrective action to address these concerns and to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all patrons.

Many nearby libraries have undergone major renovations and if you are a fan of older buildings, this would be a place to visit. Within 10 or so steps you can easily find yourself on the next floor - there are 4 floors altogether and the main floor is the 2nd floor. (+) free 3 hour parking (+) reasonable amount of seating in certain areas. Not as much seating amongst books. (+) decent variety of magazines There seems to be constant complaints of the homeless population, but this is typical of any city library. As long as they are respectful, I am OK with that. I hate to rate a public resource low or average, but the experience was mediocre at best. The stairs are very industrial-like and loud and the carpet looks like it could be cleaned. With all the taxes the city of Pasadena collects, there should be more done to preserve its charm.

When it was open the building was cool and a great place to study. Security guard was on a power trip and spent his time telling people to put their water bottles away instead of dealing with the homeless that were sleeping there or causing a ruckus. Why was this person not fired is beyond me. City of Pasadena needs new leadership if it takes 3 years for a retrofit. Ridiculous and poorly run--play it again sam welcome to LA --land of the incompetent.

At the time it contained 6,000 books. Architect Frederick M Ashley designed the original Classical Revival style building. In 1960 a new, bigger ultra-modern building replaced it and featured rooftop parking. Eventually the weight of the cars caused structural damage and in 2003 a new building was erected featuring a rustic Craftsman aesthetics fused with traditional building techniques. Even though it is a new build it does emulate the historic features of the neighborhood. The cobblestone exterior is reminiscent of the Abbey San Encino, which is Jackson Browne's childhood home that was designed built by his grandfather Clyde Brown. The Abbey San Encino is just down the street from the Library. My grammar school was nearby and we would often take field trips to this library. It was also a few blocks from my childhood home so I would walk there on the weekends and spend hours reading. Reading is something that I enjoy but don't have the time for anymore. The only time I get to read a book is when I'm on a plane. I'll typically purchase something from Amazon to bring with me but don't know what to do with the book when I'm done. Tossing it seems wasteful so I decided to come here and get a new library card. Now I can check out books for my travels and return them when I'm done. I was surprised by how much this library has changed. In addition to books and magazines they also have CDs & DVDs as well as weekly community events. They are even open for a few hours on Sunday. *Parking lot in the back & street parking.

Street parking is also available but of course, it comes with a longer walk to the entrance of the garden. I'm very impressed as they have plenty of art galleries as well that's part of the pathways. Very much worth it to check those out during your visit. They have plenty of greenhouses as well similar to the La Brea Tar Pits, those are worth a visit as well. Overall, a wonderful garden to visit, and might be one of the best and biggest in California. A must visit for sure and I'm very impressed with their maintenance. Everything looks fresh and clean here, and always a great vibe overall. The gift shop is also a nice visit if you're looking for some souvenirs.
