Close to everything - uptown, downtown, lakes etc. - Price is very reasonable. - Rent went up only 2 times within 5 years and the increase was only $20. - Very quiet, nice neighbors. - Concrete walls! - Very very warm in winter and you do not need to pay for the heat. - Underground garage which is connected to the building (you do not need to go outside in the winter!) - The best management, all requests were resolved within the reasonable time frame. Communication by email is perfect. We never had any issues with management. - FREE party room (very good room). - Swimming pool, gym. - Very clean building. - We were not charged any cleaning fee. The manager is very reasonable on this question. - FREE storage unit, big elevator. - Many units have updated appliances (we had a brand new stove and almost new refrigerator; newer conditioner in the leaving room). Cons: --- Laundry room needs some updates but it is still ok since the price is low.

If you have a car in the garage you'll pay $75 a month for it to get dripped on and the garage always floods. If you like hearing the people pissing above you, you might like it here! This building always smells like tobacco smoke. Seems like cheap living but oh my god you deal with the dumbest things. Management is literally no help. Laundry is expensive and worthless. Tenants are racist and irresponsible. Trash is everywhere. I wouldn't recommend anyone living here.

Suffering through horrendous morning commutes from Woodbury often left me banging my head against the steering wheel. I cannot imagine, nor do I know, how people in Wisconsin who commute to the Twin Cities, do it 5x a week. During winter, traffic got even worse and at that point I had settled on relocating to downtown to avert having to deal with it again. So I rationalized to myself that going from a 2 bedroom townhome in Woodbury for 1100 a month...to a 1 bedroom apartment in downtown Saint Paul for 1250 (Really 1350 with parking) a month, would be worth the extra expense. FIgured I could recoup the cost in utilities, gas, and wear and tear on my vehicle. So I swallowed the crazy rent cost and signed a one year lease. Moving in was...eventful. Ended up unloading somewhere around 1-2am because of work issues. You get to see some rather sinister looking types around that time, so each unloading of the truck, would see a unlock, load up my little trolley, lock the truck and go inside. Rinse and repeat. The elevator they allocate for you is spacious in height, but normal in width. So you can taller things like mattresses, couches, etc in there if you finagle it through the elevator doors. The hallways, least on my floor were rather cramped, so getting a couch in there would prove...fun? Neighbors...were typical for the most part. Mostly kept to themselves except for the occasional greeting/small-talk. The structure of the apartments themselves I believe are fashioned from cement, so noise from adjoining rooms is almost nil. I maybe heard my upstairs neighbor once or twice in my year long stay, and that was a brief sound like someone jumped off their bed or something. Hopefully the poor fella/gal didn't fall off in the middle of the night. However, and since I am not used to this style of apartment living, I was subject to the hallway entrances to the apartments and the problem that arises from them. My neighbors across the hall were interesting types. They frequently had their doors propped completely open while they watched tv, or cooked. So smells often penetrated the gap between the door and the floor (obviously no weather stripping due to it being inside)... You know "The Rock" phrase.... "CAN YOU SMELLLLLLLL...what the Rock is cookin?" Yeah, you pretty much could as you breathed in whatever exotic dish was being conjured up across the hall. Not to mention they were a rather vocally loud bunch and often times seemed that they had 5 people living in their 2 bedroom unit. As I was sitting in the family room, I could almost count them as they left the apt. "Door Opens...Slams".... "Door Opens....Slams"....."Door Opens....Slams" almost like they all were waiting in a single file line inside their apartment, waiting for the door to shut before they could continue filing out. Galtier, for the love of all that is holy, invest in putting some rubber stoppers or something on the door between the frame and itself. The slamming needs to stop! Other gripe would be the location of the smoke detector. I don't know who thought it would be a good idea in my specific floor plan, to place the smoke detector on the ceiling almost in the tiny kitchen. My daily ritual when I cooked would be to keep one eye on the steak...and one eye on the smoke detector looking for that little green light to start flashing red, so that I didn't end up dropping a hot skillet when that insanely loud BEEEEEEEEP started sounding. My neighbors had the same problem, in fact I could tell when they were cooking simply from that sound. Two more things and I promise to be done....if you have a balcony, expect things to fall onto it from your neighbors above... and get used to the sound of sirens, region's hospital is a stones throw away and their ambulances are always running around downtown. Granted, to Galtier's benefit, their double paned windows, REALLY help keep the overall sound outside to a minimum. Rent was ridiculous but normal for downtown. Anyways, all that aside, living in the actual apartment was good to great. I had very little maintenance issues, and those I did have were tackled within 24 hours. I never really met the maintenance staff, but I did meet the on-call weekend maintenance guy, 1 day before I moved out. A/C unit drain was clogged up and ended up saturating the carpet and base foam right by the balcony. Luckily he responded quickly, and the issue was noted prior to my move out so that shouldn't take away from my deposit (I will re-evaluate this review if they decide to dock me for it). -Now the good summed up in a nice list- Management was great! Parking was spacious & secure Apartments were quiet & reliable Never had an issue with laundromat Grocery Carts! Gym was convenient. Balcony Relaxation (highlight of my stay) 8/10 would consider again.

It's a newer building and is absolutely gorgeous - fireplaces in almost all common areas, a library, activity rooms in case you want to work on crafts or puzzles that take up a little space, etc. The one and only glitch is that there is not enough underground parking to cover all the apartments so, even though it's listed as one of the amenities, you may not get to use it. My husband is beside himself! We're on a waiting list and hope to get a spot before next winter.

Substandard finish work on units at Garland Commons 55+ units in Maple Grove, MN…read more After multiple e-mails and conversations for months with the onsite management company Velair Management (same owner as the builder Weis Builders) I ended up taking them to court to get the work orders completed. Weis Builders files taxes for Garland Commons apartments under Maple Commons, so in court if you look for cases against Weis, you will not find them due to filing taxes under other names. Look elsewhere for a better quality apartment home.

I can walk to work in 30 mins or take the bus. This was one of the many reason I wanted to rent here. The buses run so frequently which is ideal for me getting back and forth to Minneapolis on the weekends. The property is so inviting. The landscape is always well done and the pool area is always well kept. The caretaker is very friendly and does a wonderful job keeping the property clean. The maintenance workers are efficient and does a wonderful job at keeping the apartment clean after any repairs. The office staff is very responsive when you call and have an open door policy so you can feel free to stop by during business hours. I love that the each building only go up to the 3rd floor and only have 6 apartments on each floor. I feel safe when I enter the building because I can see the entire floor at a glance. I love that they have a laundry floor in each floor and you can use the laundry on any of the 3 floors. There's also an open yard area with gas grills for all the residents to use. The property is right across the street from Target, Cub Food, HarMar Mall and many restaurants. This is a supper plus for me because I don't drive. The one thing I wish the property had was a community room for residents to use when having family events. I highly recommend this property to prospective residents

The added benefits of recycling almost anything and having free soap, laundry soap and car chargers is life changing! The free shelf is also genius, got something that's useful but you don't use it, place it on the free shelf for others, and if no one wants it the property manager will donate it for you! I've lived in a lot of apartments and professional management makes everything easier!

While a year ago I would have given…read morean incredible review of these apartments, this past year I have become aware of many issues with the landlord's (Dale) behavior and treatment of residents. Sometimes he is very kind and helpful, and sometimes he does extremely questionable and possible unlawful things. Some general concerning things I have heard by talking with my neighbors include: falsely accusing (without proof) residents of stealing mail and violating lease terms; using inappropriate/unprofessional language about tenants (misgendering people, guilting tenants into certain behavior/purchases/lease renewals, cursing in an offensive way while discussing serious tenant issues); revoking lease offers without merit; general unprofessional communication (late at night, back-to-back texts, all Upper-case text, emphasizing the cost of maintenance/services to tenants); and having tenants conduct maintenance activities without compensation. While I admire Dale's mission of environmental sustainability and community, his behavior creates serious problems that need to be addressed. He is very dedicated to his properties, but it is obvious that he gets too comfortable behaving however he wants towards tenants. If you live in one of his properties I highly recommend talking with your neighbors to stay aware of inappropriate behavior.
