I found the Cocoon Gallery on Yelp, which far exceeded my expectations. First, the historic town of Apwx, NC, is picturesque and charming. My only regret in stopping here is that we arrived after some of the other wonderful shops had closed for the evening. We will definitely be back! The Cocoon Gallery has a terrific selection of pottery, handbags, and jewelry, and the woman who helped us was friendly and welcoming. After debating over several gorgeous and affordable pieces, I ended up purchasing a long pair of dangling earrings made of brass and sterling. They are so prettt and lightweight, I cannot wait to wear them. I highly recommend that you visit the Cocoon Gallery, whether it's a special gift you need or a small indulgence for yourself. It's nice to see work of local talent in one spot. Each month CGA highlights a local artist . As a added bonus, on the last Friday of the month you can meet the artist(s) to hear first-hand about the work you were just admiring, or to hear about his or her inspirations. Periodically, CGA holds weeklong auctions in which you bid on a piece and stop back during the week to see if your bid won. It's a good way to add pieces into your collection at an affordable price. If you're the type who wants to hear about the art, the people working can talk in detail about the artists technique, use of color, and previous works. At least that's been my experience the couple of times I've stopped by. It's less crowded than a museum(!)

I unfortunately won't buy anything through BRG again. I purchased an "oil painting" of a flower…read morevase a couple of years ago, but when I got it home I realized it was a print. I took the blame for that because I didn't inspect the painting properly when I picked it up (it was behind a plastic cover so it wasn't super easy to tell)-- otherwise I would have declined the charge. Luckily I had only paid ~$35 for it. More recently, I purchased another oil painting for $55; there were several in the lot by the same artist, so I felt comfortable bidding on the painting, and I knew to inspect the painting in person before accepting it. When I picked up the painting, it was indeed a real painting, I could see the paint textures and it looked as expected. On the drive home from the BRG warehouse, I noticed the painting was actually a print that someone had painted over randomly with real paint. In the daylight, it was clear that the background canvas was pixelated, and someone had covered up a lot of the print with real paint, and then signed the artist's name at the bottom. I hadn't noticed this when I picked up the painting because the inspection area under the awning was poorly lit. So, I guess I can blame myself for not giving these paintings a more thorough inspection, but I can also place some blame on BRG for misrepresenting these paintings (either purposefully or by not having a more rigorous process for the descriptions of these lots). And for those reasons, I can no longer purchase anything through BRG. I won another painting last year, which I believe is real, and that is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. Also, the website and pickup process work reasonably well.
