I have been to several record stores since 1979. Both domestically and internationally. I can attest to the fact that this was one of the better record shops I encountered whilst in South Florida, the past few months. As several reviewers have stated previously, the owner, Ritchie is both a most personable & knowledgeable owner. Still cannot believe the guy is almost 70, as he stated. I greatly appreciated his candor and laidback persona. Strike up a conversation with him, if he is not too busy, worth the effort. The store is a reasonable size, clean and well organized. I scored some excellent deals, and a few rarities to boot. I wish I had more time to dig, but we arrived late, and there was only an hour until closing time. The record prices ranged from a bargain to pricey, and all in-between. There were some nice test presses, you rarely come cross, in addition to a nice selection of both used and new records. This was my first time to the record rack, located in Pompano Beach. Before here, the only record store I've been to was Radioactive down in Ft. Lauderdale. The Record Rack is located in a small strip of businesses on the north side of Atlantic Boulevard just east of Federal Highway. The parking is limited but I easily found a spot on a quiet Saturday morning. The place was empty except for one other guy browsing through the records and the owner. I didn't know where to begin in my search. I mentioned that to the owner and he said "start with A", We both laughed and I went on to browsing. The record store has an expansive collection. There are tons of records in every genre you can think of. Classic rock, prog rock, punk, country, metal, jazz, blues and everything in-between. I browsed for about an 45 minutes. I found 3 records, all used and spent about 16 bucks. Not bad, I thought. I would have browsed more if I had the time. I will definitely be back to this store next time I am looking for some records. read more

I dig this place. I'm from out of town, so I visit record stores everywhere I go. It's a small shop but the content is strong. Not fillet. Lots of genres and variety. They just moved into their new space and are still settling in, but I found some great obscure stuff in really nice shape. Heavy on rock but also nice jazz and soul and soundtracks sections. I have no idea how much the new arrivals turn over but I bought more LPs here than even at Radio-Active. The prices are better and the selection is good. I thought the owner was a nice and friendly guy too. Giving it 5 stars for the Ft. Lauderdale metro. Worth a visit for sure. read more

I've found some of the best shops have fantastic owners(most often in the shop). Bit of an "Equipment enthusiast" and Ritchie it was an absolute pleasure talking to you! We had just gotten of an early flight so I might have seemed rushed. Great mix of old and new (the way it should be), the sign of a good shop is when you have to stop yourself, actual number of items or price aren't necessarily relevant. Small record shop in an appealing location manned solely by the owner who is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic music aficionado who's been in the record selling biz for 40+ years. Selection is a bit limited, overall, but good enough to warrant repeat visits. OK jazz selection, this shop is stronger on the rock / metal / prog side of things. Good selection of odd & unusual new LPs. Good CD selection as well - better, in fact, than what I've seen elsewhere in the area. Prices are fair. Never felt a need to do an online price check will flipping thru the LPs here. Definitely worthwhile! read more

I first visited Record Rack on black friday on a whim after I saw it driving by. Ending up leaving with more than a few records, several of them from the $1 bin. I ended up leaving with a copy of Joni Mitchell's "Blue" album, most of Elton John's discography, and a really neat Simon & Garfunkel live album, among several other really great finds. The sound has been great on everything, and everything was very reasonably priced. I've since been back several times, and I'm already looking forward to my next trip to the Record Rack! read more

I've been to the Record Rack a few times upon my visits back to South FL. I usually walk out with a handful or more of records. Ritchie the owner is one of the nicest shop owners and genuinely cares about his customers. THE GOOD... -lots of different genres -organized pretty well -found some pretty awesome soundtracks here -owner is a nice guy who will talk music past, present and the South FL scene of yesteryear -I've found parking relatively easy -good hours -not far from the beach! -sells vintage audio equipment THE BAD... -new vinyl/reissues are a bit pricey -no listening station -not a place you'll find much hip-hop or punk Overall Record Rack is a cool spot that you can spend a few hours digging around in. Love this store. It's always me go-to in South Florida. It's very calm and never over crowded. They always have gems. I ended up getting a Wham! record before it was cool aka featured in Deadpool for only a few bucks. I have a break down of how I rate a store and this is what it is: 1. Mark Up and Cost of Records - The records are decently priced. I usually only buy used or bargain because that's where I find amazing things at in here. 2. Quality of Records and Assortment - It's a fairly small store in size so for the amount of records and types they have it's very good. It's not as giant as some of the other stores which is great. They have a section in the front with new arrivals. I go straight there and then in clearance bins. 3. Lay Out and Organization - The store is tiny as I mentioned. The lay out is good for the size of the store. Sometimes it's overwhelming if there are too many people in there. It's a great place to go if you called off sick or you happen to be off in a time most people are at work. I have been there a few times and giant dudes get all up in my section. It's like "What are you doing? There's four others spots and it's only the owner, you, and me in here and you're on top of me." That's not their fault that some of their customers are annoying. Maybe I don't like people or something. Vinyl shopping is serious stuff. That's like picking the treadmill right next to somebody when 10 are open at the gym. Don't do it! I love that the owner notices this too. 4. Displays or Store Recommendations - My first vinyl for my vinyl books was bought at this store. It was Nirvana Nevermind recommended by Ritchie. He's awesome. They don't have a display but ask him for a record and he will make some recommendations based on what you like. 5. Staff Interactions - They are super chill. They don't really bother you and are very laid back guys. I interact with them periodically but only if I am asking for something to listen to or if I am telling him something cool. Don't expect them to be super perky. They aren't but the are very nice just not in your face. Tip: The prices of the albums are in the corner of the sleeve so you don't have to bug them. read more

Vinyl LP sales are on the rise across the country. Lots of artists whose material was only released on CD is now being released on vinyl. Turntable sales have been rising as well every year for the past few years. Last year they were up 50%. Guitar Center locations are selling turntables. You can pay $100 to $700 for a new one. The city of Los angeles being roughly the size of half the state of FL (still maybe more people) has about 7 shops that focus on vinyl LPs, CDs & posters. Portland Oregon a much smaller city has maybe 10-15. Possibly cause it rains so much or maybe it's just the artsy population. The Record Rack is one of only two stores I've found in Broward County, here in south Fl that specialize in vinyl LPs. It's a small store but packed with product and has that mom and pop store charm. The Record Rack carries CDs and 45s as well but mainly vinyl LPs. There CD is stock is very limited. The owner is a friendly local who grew up in the area, Ritchie Siegrest. He's also helpful and can tell what acts have come through the area in concert and who might be coming. He's a wealth of information from that standpoint. Can't say the same for some of the hired help. The Sunday guy was abrasive and rude. Safe to say he was a "dick"! So visit when Ritchie is working. You'll know as soon as you enter the store if he's not. The focus of Record Rack is classic rock, metal, blues and jazz with some psychedelic and oldies. The soundtrack section is weak and the country section is mostly pop country with product appearing to be from late 70s - 90s. So I'd say that section is weak as well. Good rock stuff does come in and tends to go out just as quickly as it comes in so you should stop by often. 70s-90s rock is offered fairly inexpensively and some of the more desirable 60s and early 70s product is somewhat higher priced but in line with current prices elsewhere and/or more reasonable than E-bay which can be a crap shoot these days. Sometimes you'll stop in and find nothing then a day or so later someone will have traded in a collection of rare punk or classic bands etc. So stop in often if you're a vinyl junkie. You'll need your fix anyway. There is a listening station near the front door which has really great sound where you can audition product. Recently the Record Rack re-located up the street from the old location but still on Atlantic Ave and a bit closer to Federal Hwy between a German & a Greek restaurant. The owner was nasty to me when I arrived 15 minutes before it opened. The website stated business opens at 10am and I arrived at 10:45. Apparently, new hours start at 11am. Either way, there was reason for the owner to be so nasty and rude. Plenty of other polite vinyl store options around. read more

Ritchie has a gem of a shop that I'm happy to drive 30 minutes to check in with twice a month or so. Tons of great finds, from all over the map, all at reasonable prices. Stopped into this store on Tuesday as I was in nearby Boca Raton for a conference. All I have to say is the place is GREAT!! The place is small but it packs quite a wallop when it comes to records. It is very well organized and I was able to pick up some great stuff while I was there. Tremendous rock and jazz section. I highly recommend it to nephyte vinyl collectors to seasoned collectors. Probably the best store in South Florida for purchasing eclectic records. If you want a knowledgable owner with diverse tastes and product then this is the store for you. The owner is very friendly, very knowledgable and loves helping customers find new music to listen to. His selection covers many different genres but for me it's his vast selection of heavy metal and prog rock that really keeps me going back. Great vinyl in great condition without all the attitude you see too often in record shops. The owner has owned this indie shop for years and worked at local record stores (Peaches I believe) apparently since the late 70's. Also of note the store is great if you actually want to go to a shop on Record Store Day and not wait in a line that goes around the block. I walked in 2 hours after opening, got everything I wanted and was back out on the road 20 minutes later. I do wish he still had all of the prog metal cd's he used to carry as well but I can't complain since his vinyl selection is terrific. read more

Easily the best place for vinyl still in operation in Broward County. Also a nice location just on the mainland side of the Intracoastal. Ritchie prices things to move, which is refreshing compared to some of the competition in the tri-county area. He's also generally selective about condition, as he doesn't have lots of extra space for multiple scratchy copies of something. There are also CDs, but the main strength is vinyl, specifically albums (though also a smattering of 45s). read more
