Along came the successful Mezze chain of pubs, spent thousands on a full refurbishment and now you have a beautiful bar/restaurant with a lovely beer garden. If you've not been to one of the Mezze pubs then you are missing out. The menu offers a large selection of vegetarian, meat or fish Mezze at 4.50 a dish or 3 for £12. The portions are generous and the food lovely. The also offer a lighter lunch time menu with sandwiches, wraps, salads and smaller hot Meals. I've tried many things on the menu and it's all really good.

It went through a big refurb a few years back and the interior is homely and comfy. The food is generally of a good standard, however I have had the odd disappointing dish. My recommendation is to go for the specials as they are always good! It's not the cheapest but that is normally reflected in the quality. The service can also be a little slow during busy periods.

It's clean, simple and looks more up market than your average country pub. The bar sells a good selection on lager, ale, cider and wine but it's pricey, a small pino cost £4.65. The food menu is typical of an up market gastro pub and it all sounded lovely, mains cost anything between £9-16. They also had posh bar snacks like a pint if prawns and a number of specials that sounded good. As it was lunch I opted for a rare beef sandwich which was £6.50. The bread was freshly baked, the beef beautifully cooked and all presented on a board with some token leaves that we're light dressed. As far as sarnies go this was a great one. I wouldn't go to this pub for a night out as it would probably bankrupt you but for a lovely lunch or evening meal I definitely recommend.

It's only two miles beyond Clifton, and at the village cross roads is this brilliant little pub. The beer is pretty cheap, the food is superb and reasonably priced (everything well under a tenner) and it feels exactly like what it is: a cosy village pub. Afterwards, you could do worse than head a mile down Manor Road (where the pub is) to Abbots Pool, a beautiful, historic woodland with a big lily-covered fishpond at its heart.

(Local legend has it that Sea Mills was founded by Quakers which means that pubs are not allowed in the vicinity.) Other than this, there isn't a great deal to recommend it. It's a one room establishment, albeit on a split level, with an unremarkable interior, seating out the front and a local clientele strangely split between those from well to do Stoke Bishop and the notably less salubrious Sea Mills. There's a pic of David Jason on the wall enjoying a pint at the bar during a break from filming (Boycey's garrish mock mansion is around the corner), but despite this when I lived in the area I still preferred to make the mile or so walk to the better pubs in Westbury-on-Trym.

For as little as £2, you can sign them into the soft play area and keep a watchful eye through the glass window as you enjoy a meal and a relaxing drink - heaven! If you're little ones are of the clingy variety, you can choose to sit inside the play area itself, but be warned there is a lingering aroma of urine. Obviously little toddlers can't help the odd accident, but I'd suggest that the staff need to give the room and equipment a good clean to get rid of the niggling aroma. The food's not bad either, although my order was lost in the rush. That said, anyone can have a bad day and the staff were apologetic and reimbursed us for our trouble. In all, a great find if you can stand the smell!
