For many years this pleasant meadowland was used for grazing cattle. However, in 1976 this was opened as The Delapre Golf Complex, comprising an 18-hole course and a 9-hole Pitch and Putt course, a 9-hole par 3 course and a 25-bay driving range. There is also an attractive 'Clubhouse' open to the public. Indeed, the whole philosophy of the Complex is to make golf available to anyone on a 'pay as you play basis. Still more recently, Delapre Park has become home to the Northampton Horse Trials - an increasingly popular sport made up of dressage, show jumping and cross-country. Fittingly the Northampton Pony Club also use Delapre as the base for their own activities. At the southern end of the Delapre estate lie Delapre Woods. These were originally cleared and planted when the gardens were laid out. Some fine oak, sweet chestnut and beech remain from this planting. Further clearances and planting of beech, oak and conifers have produced a mixed wood with many beautiful walks, together with fine views of the Abbey and town centre

They have two party rooms which are quite small and the party packages are overpriced. It is a great place to take younger (pre school) children for a run around, but the toilets are very small and cramped. The communal coffee area for parents is often grubby and dirty. Snacks and drinks are very expensive and poor quality. Security is not great so keep an eye on your purse! It is also down to you to keep an eye on the children. General entry prices are pretty reasonable, but the whole place always looks like it needs a good clean!

And there are toilets nearby. For the adults and bigger teens, there is a big assault course a short walk away. There is so much I havent seen at Stanwick Lakes as Ive been limited by the children but Im very pleased by what I have seen! I think parking is £1-£2 depending on the season.

There are a couple of parks with in the lakes and the kids love them, one has a big slide that comes through the trees which is great fun for them. There are some lovely walks around the lake and a path so its great for bike rides. There is lots of nice areas which are great for picnics in the summer. there is a cafe which is open at busy times so you can get some lunch or a coffee after your walk. Also in the summer there is ice cream available. this is a really fun family day out.

The main car park is accessed from the main road between Northampton & Market Harbororgh, is pay & display & has a superb kids play area, picnic area, bike hire shop & tourist information area. There's a smaller free car park which can be accessed from Pitsford village, & it's a gentle 5-10 min stroll to the play area. The water is used for trout fishing & sailing. Altogether, it's a wonderful day out for all.

The path around the lake is 8 miles or so and you get some great views. If you need a break halfway round then there's a carpark at that point with an ice cream van if you feel the need! Plus there are sometimes swans to see. Part of the route takes you into a village. Mind you look out for the turning on the right back to the route as it's quite hidden otherwise you can find yourself wheeling down a hill that takes a lot of effort getting back up. Believe me, I'm speaking from experience! If you're only doing the circuit for a day out rather than to get healthy then when you're done it's well worth stopping for lunch in the cafe. The burgers and coffee are great! As you face the cafe to the right is a small childrens' play area. There's a small cycle shop there too although I wouldn't say it's particularly cheap.

It is a perfect place for a stroll on a pleasant day and is so big you could get lost! Although chances are you would bump into someone sooner or later since Harlestone Firs is hugely popular, not just with walkers but with joggers, cyclists and horse-riders. It is also dog-friendly. Parking is right outside, across the road but on busy days it is difficult to get a space. There is a big garden centre opposite however with ample parking and the garden centre is well worth a visit too and has a cafe and toilets.

Facilities at the park include: - 4 Senior Football Pitches 4 Changing Rooms and 3 Grass Cricket Pitches It is likely that this park once provided the Dallington area with grazing for cattle because there is evidence of a Ha-Ha wall on the northeastern side forming the boundary shared by the former Dallington Hospital. As this hospital was once a large residential house with an ornamental garden, it is reasonable to assume this Ha-Ha was constructed to keep grazing animals out of the gardens. The wall, of course, no longer serves any real purpose but it has been retained for general interest
